Galactica 1980

When Dillon makes changes to Mortinson's equations that are on a monitor and Mortinson goes on how no one on Earth could do such a thing, it is very similar to a scene from the sci-fi movie The Day The Earth Stood Still.

The simulated Cylon attack on Los Angeles uses footage from the disaster movie Earthquake.

Troy mentions his parents (actually should be adoptive parents) and a picture of them is briefly shown. While Captain Apollo of the original series was known to be Boxey's surrogate father, the picture also shows Cassiopeia. A romance between those two characters was never shown in the original series.

Addition to above: Note that the Cylons in "The Night the Cylons Landed" use terms like "centons."

Goof: Regarding the use of Earth time measures, perhaps the Fleet had adjusted their usage after seeing Earth used a system like that back on Terra ("Greetings from Earth" 1 and 2; "Experiment in Terra").

Goof: For some reason, Captain Troy's quarters are located on a freighter. Usually warriors would be quartered on their warship, in this case, the Galactica.

Goof: Troy and Dillon have Vipers that each seat two people. Yet the stock footage shows the familiar one-seat Viper. This raises an interesting plot point. If the Viper seats two, why do Troy and Dillon take two Vipers when they would fit into just one? That's less of a chance to be detected.

Goof: In the opening narration, Adama states the voyage has lasted for years. The convention has always been to refer to common units and objects using alien terms that are similar yet different from Earth speech. Adama should have referred to "yahrens" instead of years.

Goof: In "The Hand of God" on the original BSG, Apollo picked up the signal of the 1969 lunar landing. Presumably this signal had to travel for several light years to reach Galactica and could not travel faster than the speed of light. But for the sake of argument, let's say the episode takes place in 1969. If the new show takes place 30 years later, it would have to take place in at least 1999, not 1980. And while mention is made of time travel existing, there is no indication Galactica travels back in time.

Goof: At one point it is mentioned that all warrior patrols to Earth have reported back to the Galactica, except Troy and Dillon. If Troy and Dillon are supposed to be the best Warriors, as their status as main characters would have indicate, are we supposed to believe that none of the other attempts to contact Earth resulted in the kind of comical bungling we see here? All the others assimilated perfectly, accomplished their mission and went home? Even the guy who went to the SOVIET UNION? If so, why do later episodes imply only Troy and Dillon are stationed on Earth, when others are clearly more competent than they are?

Goof: After Troy and Dillon are arrested and thrown in jail, they promptly escape by turning invisible, tricking the guard into opening the cell door. Standard police procedure is to confiscate all personal affects of prisoners, and there is no way the police would have allowed Troy and Dillon to keep their rather large wrist-watch computron devices.
