Troy and Dillon arrive in a field for an urgent mission. A Viper uncloaks and Lieutenant Nash gets out to greet them. He tells them that he was told to bring them the Viper so that they can carry out their mission. Troy says that their instructions were vague and is wondering why they weren't given more since nobody could intercept them. Nash tells him that Xavier could because has reentered their time frame. Doctor Zee has programmed Xavier's coordinates into the ship so that they can track him. Nash is to stay with the children while Dillon and Troy go on their mission to capture Xavier. Troy tells Nash that the children are with Jamie Hamilton and they all go to their tasks.
Colonel Sydell tells his secretary that his superiors are pressing him for wasting too much time and money on hunting down the aliens. He looks at the photo in the newspaper of Jamie with the guys and decides to get to them through her. He tells his secretary not to tell anyone where is going and heads off.
At UBC, Jamie shows the scouts around the studio. She says that she must do her job or else she'll be fired. One of the children says that he has already read through the booklet she gave them and will teach the others. Jamie leaves and he demonstrates how a camera works by taking it apart.
Jamie enters a meeting where Mr. Brooks mentions a kid's camp that is in financial trouble. She offers to cover it and he agrees.
The older boy Wellington has completely disassembled the video camera, so when a cameraman comes by, he is shocked.
Mr. Brooks tells Jamie that he is concerned that Jamie keeps disappearing and is unreachable. He tells her to just do her job and get the story this time. He assigns Hal to be her cameraman and tells her to do nothing but cover the story. Brooks insists that she stay out of trouble. Just then, the other cameraman enters, frantic over the destroyed camera. He brings Jamie and Mr. Brooks to the studio to show them the dismantled camera. However, there are no pieces to be seen because they put it back together. He doesn't believe them and insists that the camera is a different one. The confusion is dismissed as some maintenance by a technician. Mr. Brooks gives Jamie and Hal some pointers on covering the camp story.
Troy and Dillon are flying in the Viper in space but get worried when it does not take them where they are expecting. They try to override the Computron and fly manually, but the override does not work. They radio Adama to inform him of the malfunction but Adama does not know what they are talking about. They tell him that Lieutenant Nash told them their mission and brought them the Viper. Adama responds that they are not making sense because Lieutenant Nash is standing right beside him. They realize that Xavier has tricked them by changing his appearance. The air on the ship begins to run low.
Adama consults with Doctor Zee. He points out that the Viper will eventually return to the Galactica when it comes within it's gravitational field, so all that Xavier gains is time. He realizes that Xavier must be going after the children, to use them as bargaining chips. Unfortunately, they can do nothing now but wait.
Jamie and the children arrive at the camp. She tells Billy who runs the camp, that the children are orphans who she brought to see the camp and meet other children. She sends them off to join the other kids. She talks with Billy about the camp as they walk. He tells her that it's a baseball camp, and that unless they win, the sponsors will not support them and they will not have enough money to keep running at which point some developers will buy the land. Unfortunately, several of the kids have gotten the flu and cannot play. Hal suggests that Jamie's kids play in their place but Jamie says that they do not know how to play.
The scouts watch the other children play baseball. The ball lands near them and they tell Starla to throw the ball back. Jamie tells her not to but Starla does, launching it high and sending it very far away. The camp children are confused, as is Hal. Jamie tries to explain it as an optical illusion but Hal does not fall for it. She says that Starla is a mutation and has a great arm. Hal asks her to tell Starla to do it again so that he can get it on film but she tells him that they have to do it right, that she'll let him know when it's time to shoot.
Billy talks to the scouts and asks them if they want to play. Jamie shouts no, but all the scouts shout yes. He heads to the field. Jamie tells Hal to find a good position to shoot from, then tells the kids that they have to play bad and lose in order to protect their identities.
Troy and Dillon have stopped moving and are running out of oxygen. Floating helplessly in space, they decide to take shifts sleeping in order to reduce their oxygen usage.
Colonel Sydell enters Mr. Brooks' office looking for Jamie. Brooks tells him that she is off doing a story. Finding out that the scouts are involved in the story, Sydell tells him that the scouts are impostors and asks where the camp is. Brooks replies that another man was there earlier asking the same question.
"Lieutenant Nash" surprises Jamie at the camp. He tells her that Adama sent him to help her with the children. She is glad for the help.
Jamie introduces Nash to Billy, but Billy is in a bad mood and walks out. The assistant coach explains that half the team has the flu, so they will not be able to compete in the playoffs. Now their sponsors will not fund them and they will have to shut down. Jamie gets a call from Mr. Brooks. He tells her that the Air Force is investigating and is curious about the scouts. He says that he would like to help her but is worried about getting in trouble. She thanks him and hangs up, then tells Nash that Sydell is on his way to the camp.
Jamie tells Billy that she will let the scouts play in the tournament but he doubts that they will be able to win. She gives a ball to Starla and tells her to throw it. Starla throws the ball right through a wooden wall, impressing Billy. He agrees to let them play and they run off as Nash watches them from a distance.
Commander Adama receives a transmission from Xavier (in the form of Nash). Xavier tells Adama that he would like to bargain, but Adama responds that Xavier has broken their laws and so he will not bargain with him. Xavier says that he only disagreed with Doctor Zee's policies and he will not be led by an adolescent. He offers the lives of Dillon, Troy, and the 12 children in exchange for being allowed to live in peace on Earth. Adama is suspicious and asks in what time, place, and degree of power Xavier intends to live on Earth. Xavier refuses to tell him, but says that he will obey the intergalactic laws. He adds that Adama has 12 hours to make his decision.
Billy tells the announcer about his ball club as the game prepares to begin.
In the locker room, the scouts go over the rules of baseball. Jamie voices her concern about being exposed but Nash tells her that they are safer hiding here in plain sight. Colonel Sydell shows up in the locker room. He tries to get Jamie to answer questions and have the sergeant watch the kids but Billy and Hal tell him that it won't be possible because the kids have a game to play. Sydell decides to let them play in order to see their performance since it will tell him a lot.
The announcer reports that the Polecats—the team that the scouts are playing on—are smaller than expected. The scouts misunderstand a few things and make some mistakes before the game begins. Jamie tells them that the Air Force is watching them so they must lose again. They are disappointed. The game begins and the Polecats do their best to fail while the other team taunts them and Billy starts to worry.
Dillon and Troy are almost out of air in the Viper. They determine that since Xavier has disabled the controls, they must get to the master circuits outside and so they prepare to exit the ship.
The opposing team gains the lead. Billy asks Jamie what is going on, why they are losing but she does not answer. The Polecats continue to lose on purpose. Sydell is upset because his suspicions are not being confirmed. Billy tells Jamie that he believes that the land developers put her up to this.
Dillon and Troy try to perform some repairs on the Viper while floating in space but do not have the right equipment.
Adama contacts Xavier and tells him that he must refuse his demands. Xavier points out that Adama is condemning they guys and the kids. Adama explains that if he gives in to Xavier, then Xavier will be able to blackmail them over and over. Adama tells him that he hopes Xavier will understand that his plan is useless and will not harm them, but Xavier bids him farewell, telling Adama that the children are now doomed to death. He then tells Jamie to round up the kids to the bus after the game, and that there is nothing she can do to stop him.
After six innings, the Cougars have a 6-0 lead over the Polecats. Hal tells Jamie that he will stay behind after the game because everyone will be taking pictures of the winning team. Jamie gets an idea; she realizes that the winning team will be surrounded by reporters which is a great cover to escape. She tells the scouts to win; she tells them that they have a lot at stake, and must use their abilities.
The game continues and the Polecats begin using their powers. They hit the ball so hard it gets buried in the field, they run really fast, and hit the ball far. Billy is excited at the prospect of saving his camp. A boy from the other team calls Wellington lucky, but Wellington explains that it was just physics.
Dillon and Troy finish their repairs and get back in the Viper, hoping that they now have manual control.
The Polecats play an amazing game and get close to catching up.
The Viper is back online so Troy engages the thrusters.
Now the Polecats are ahead of the Cougars by one run. Sydell watches anxiously. The Cougars try to get one more run, but one of the scouts jumps high into the air to catch the pop-fly. Xavier tells Jamie to gather the children but she points out that they are surrounded by reporters. The Polecats win. Sydell tells the sergeant to watch the children as he heads for Jamie.
Troy and Dillon are back on Earth. They are rushing to get to the children, so they take flight on their cycles.
In the locker room, Jamie tries to get herself out of trouble by tricking Sydell and Xavier to attack each other. Dillon and Troy get there as the fight begins. Xavier shoots Colonel Sydell and runs away. Colonel Sydell will survive and the children are safe, but they are upset that Xavier has escaped.
Dillon thanks Jamie for doing a wonderful job. She is relieved that the game is over and hopes that they don't learn any other ones since they stand out so much. Just then, a basketball rolls to Starla's feet. Jamie calls the children over, and as they leave, Starla throws the ball behind her, dunking it perfectly from far away.
