  • Trivia

    • After Banquo comments that Hudson was probably on the bottom of the ocean, the scene changes to outside Robbins' house. The camera pans to the right, showing a stone Hudson on the wall. It then fades inside Robbins' house where Hudson and Robbins are talking.

    • In "Enter MacBeth," MacBeth's castle was engulfed in flames, but five episodes later it is totally rebuilt as it was before falling down.

  • Quotes

    • Macbeth: (in regards to Merlin, King Arthur's wizard mentor) He was a single spectacle. A bearded old man who took a ragged young boy and with magic and wisdom, turned him into the greatest king this world will ever see. A king who ruled with justice and compassion, and took the torn remnants of warring tribes and knit them into a country of beauty and civilization, with Merlin always at his side, until it fell. Merlin's magic was stronger than anything, except the human heart.

    • Jeffery: The written word is all that stands between memory and oblivion. Without books as our anchors, we are cast adrift, neither teaching nor learning. They are windows on the past, mirrors on the present, and prisms reflecting all possible futures. Books are lighthouses erected in the dark sea of time.

    • Jeffrey: It isn't shameful to be illiterate, Hudson. It's only a shame to stay that way.

    • Jeffrey: Something about your voice made me think you were a soldier.
Hudson: Aye. I still am, I suppose.

    • Broadway: Why stare at marks on a page when you can rent the video?

    • MacBeth: (to Broadway) You've got courage, beastie, I'll give you that. What you don't have is a prayer.

    • Hudson: Mm, Magic book.
      Jeffrey: Aren't they all?

  • Notes

    • According to Greg: There's a semi-heavy-handed "Read More About It" feel to the clock tower conversation regarding Merlin. Goliath practically quotes those public service announcements, saying there are many books about him in the library. I don't mind. I had wanted to cite a few actual books -- like Mary Stewart's The Crystal Cave -- but our legal department wouldn't give us clearance for that. Very short-sighted.

    • First appearance of Jeffrey Robbins, a former veteran who became blind in combat and befriends Hudson in this episode.

    • Xanatos doesn't appear in this episode.

    • Once again Matt Bluestone appears in this episode, but has no dialogue and actor Tom Wilson isn't credited.

  • Allusions

    • Jeffrey's dog's name: Gillie

'Gillie' is short for Gilgamesh, the famous historical king, adventurer, and epic hero of Uruk in Babylonia of approximately 2700 B.C.
