  • We meet one of Goliath's rookery brother's, who has endded up being 'created' by Xanatos and Demona

    9.3
The introduction of Coldstone, also know by fans as Othello. A gargoyle who has been brought back to life by his rookery sister; Demona and the human Xanatos. We learn that he is created by machine and magic; but their are some things that we don't fully learn until a few eps later. But this ep gives us a new look at another gargoyle from Castle Wyvern, who technically shouldn't be alive at all. While Goliath is pleased to see his brother after so long; his brother is more angry, believing what Demona has told him and that the massacre was Goliath's fault.

Needless to say, he learns the truth and ends up saving his brother from drowning in the river.

It's an ep that might not be the best, and yet, with Coldstone now part of the show, you hope to learn more about him too.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • Trivia: Originally the Gargoyles did not actually have names, except for Goliath. Demona actually gives Coldstone his name. After he is brought back to life/online Coldstone asks Demona what he is. She responds "You are coldstone brought to life..."

    • Trivia: This is the first episode using the intercom system that Elisa uses to communicate with Goliath and the clan.

    • Coldstone's lips don't move when he talks after bringing Goliath out of the river.

  • QUOTES (7)

    • Goliath: I don't want to hurt you.
      Coldstone: You already have!

    • Goliath: I... know you, from long ago. You are my brother.
Coldstone: And you are my betrayer!

    • Brooklyn: But, what do we protect?
      Hudson: The clock tower.
Goliath: No. That is merely where we sleep. This island, Manhattan, this is our castle. From this day forward, we protect all who live here, human and gargoyle alike.

    • Elisa: This is a dying neighborhood, Goliath. The big markets won't even come here. If he closes the store, people will have no place to buy food. That's more important to him than hiding in his own little castle.
      Goliath: His community needs him.
      Elisa: To survive.

    • Hudson: A gargoyle can no more stop protecting the castle than breathing the air.

    • Coldstone: What am I?
Demona: You are cold stone brought to life.
      Coldstone: Cold... stone.

    • Xanatos: (about Coldstone) It's alive! ALIVE! (to Demona) I've always wanted to say that.

  • NOTES (2)

    • Kazuo Terada won the 1995 Annie Award for "Best Individual Achievement for Storyboarding in the Field of Animation" for this episode.

    • While checking out the old man's grocery store, Elisa receives a "Code 3" from the police dispatch. A search on police codes have shown that it means "Proceed with emergency lights and sirens". Though some police forces have it also down as things as various as "meal break" and "robbery".

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • Lexington: I don't remember any explosions in Bambi.

The Trio were watching this classic Disney animated film from the movie house balcony when Coldstone was battling Goliath in Times Square.

    • Xanatos: (about Coldstone) It's alive! ALIVE! (to Demona) I've always wanted to say that.

"It's alive! ALIVE!" is a famous line from the 1931 movie adaptation of Mary Shelly's Frankenstein.
