Garroway at Large

Show Summary

Radio personality Dave Garroway made an easy transition to television in this series broadcast from Chicago. This series was a low-budget show that focused on it's low-key, intellectual host rather than gaudy sets and huge production numbers. Unlike other hosts, Garroway didn't simply stay put on the set; he wandered 'at large' all around the studio, ad-libbing with stage hands, cameramen and cast members from wherever they happened to be standing. Musical numbers and skits were also part of the mix. Dave Garroway concluded each program with a raised a hand and the word 'Peace'. He ended this series to start a program on NBC that's still on the air: it's called 'Today'.
