When Gary discovers that Allison is going to take the kids to their first concert, a not-so-friendly competition kicks off. Gary tries to out-do Allison by exposing the kids to other first experiences, such as Tommy's first shave and buying Louise her first bra.moreless

    "Perfect"
I thought this was the funniest Gary Unmarried to date. Gary and Allison were competing to be there for Tom and Louise's first everything, which was bascially preemptive, starting with their first concert.

Now, I do not recall my first concert, but I do remember the some of the other things that the episode features. I got say I think the actor who plays Tommy has some really great comedic timing, watching him shave was hilarious. Louise was great when she saw the bra her father got her and was nervous about the size.

I think what took the cake was when Tom and Louise went to Dr. Krandall to teach their parents a lesson, and what a lesson. Threatening to shred the tickets and actually shredding a few themselves but to our amusement it was just tickets to Krandall's therapy symposium.

I am really liking this show, it is down to earth and the premise is not too complex, and at the same time it is funny. Plus I want to see Jay Mohr wearing a Scott Baio t-shirt.moreless
  • Not a bad episode but some of it was somewhat annoying at times.

This episode of Gary Unmarried was fairly good, I particularly enjoyed the scenes with Tommy, he is played by a child actor that can act well. The shaving sv#cene was a hoot. The scene at the end with the paper shredder was well done though I could have predicted from the outset that the tickets they were holding weren't for Michael Bolton or Bruce Springsteen. I just didn't laugh much at the rest of it. I really want to like this show but all too often I find it a bit too forced and predictable and this was the case with a lot of this particular episode.moreless

    "Great"
This episode was obviously broadcast out of production order since Louise acts like she just got her cello. However in an earlier episode, Allison blames Gary for losing Louise's cello, then finds it in her laundry room and breaks into Gary's house to hide it there.

Otherwise, the episode is funny and just what I would expect from two parents that are fighting with each other to be the best parent.

It's amazing how good Paula Marshall looks compared to Jay Mohr, who's six years younger than she is. However, it is a little unbelievable that she would be dating someone 15 years older that isn't rich.moreless
  • Gary and Allison battle over taking part in their children's "firsts".

    "Good"
Another laugharama at Gary Unmarried tonight. We saw Gary rip Michael Bolton a new one in an attack on a musician of the caliber not seen since Seth Rogen outed Coldplay in The 40 Year Old Virgin. In more humorous music-related antics we found out that one of Dennis' arms is four inches shorter than the other due to David Lee Roth jumping on it and the kids threatening to shred the Bolton and Bruce Springsteen tickets. More important than the constant jokes is how the show manages to have a solid family moment on a weekly basis without it seeming too forced. Other CBS comedies try this and fail. Sometimes simplicity is a good thing and Gary Unmarried is proof of that.moreless

    • Tom: It doesn't bother you that I don't have any hair on my face? (Tom dabs shaving cream on his face) Gary: No, no, listen you're a Brooks, you come from a long line of incredibly hairy people. You remember your Aunt Rose? Who do you think taught me how to shave?

    • Tom: What's going on? Gary: Well Tommy, your dad's gonna teach you how to shave. Tom: Shave what? Gary: Your beard you big hairy lumberjack. Come on. Tom: What's with the first aid kit? Gary: Yeah, why don't we answer that question if and when we need it.

    • Gary: (looking at the tickets) What the heck are these? The Freudian Pips? Krandall: They're left over from a little gig I had with three of my psychotherapist friends. We were sort of an up-with-people for the clinically depressed. Gary: You are a strange man, Krandall.

    • Tommy: We want you to stop forcing us to do stuff we're not ready to do yet. Like shaving and dating. Louise: And driving. Tommy: Actually the driving I like. I'd like to see more of that.

    • (Louise puts a ticket in the shredder) Allison: What was that? Louise: I don't know. I'm drunk with power.

    • (Tommy puts a ticket in the shredder) Gary: My mistake. Is that Springsteen or Bolton? Louise: What part of tickets and shredder don't you understand?

    • Gary: All right, guys. Let's not do anything crazy, ok. Tom, Louise? Louise: Crazy? Like buying your 11-year-old a giant cafeteria lady bra?

    • Tommy: What's going on? Gary: Well, Tommy, your Dad's going to teach you how to shave. Tommy: Shave what?

    • Tommy: Do you think maybe I could drive the car to school? Gary: Tommy, I've seen you play Grand Theft Auto. Until you can operate a vehicle without jumping the kerb and killing a pimp, I have to say no.
