Gary decides to create a new bond with his son after seeing Krandall getting on so well with Tom.
  • A great episode exploring Tommy and Gary's relationship.

Gary Unmarried has been a little uneven over these initial episodes but this was definitely one of the better ones. Tommy is a great character and played really well by Ryan Malgarini. The episode revolved around Gary's relationship with his son in the light of his growing up and entering puberty. The paintball scenes were very funny, helped by the brilliant way Krandall and Grandpa Jack interacted with Gary and Tommy. The Tommy character is one of the best in this show (much better than Louise) so I hope there will be more of this sort of stuff in the second half of the season.moreless

This might be my favorite episode of the series.

Tom is one of my favorite characters on the show, Ryan Malgarini is great, his comedic timing is great, he and Angus T. Jones would make a great duo. So an episode focusing on Tom's inability to bond with Gary offered some great comedic moments. Gary towel whipping Tom in the balls, playing every single sport in the known universe, and then paintball.

The episode also offered Gary's father Jack, our favorite pot smoking granddad. Jack had a great story while playing paintball and pretending to be a Vietnam veteran, and then the realization came that Dr. Krandall met Jack before at a Greatful Dead concert.

Back to Tom, as he and Gary tried to bond, Gary found out something, that not all sons always want to talk to to their fathers about their change into manhood.

I hope they do more episodes that focus on Gary and Tom's relationship and the role Dr. Krandell will play in that relationship.moreless

An Animal House reference and a shot to the testicles, this episode of Gary Unmarried really had it all. As usual supporting cast members Dr. Walter Krandall and Dennis Lopez gave us a bucket of laughs. Dropping historical battles that the average viewer may not recognize (although I do) and Dennis believing a specimen may burst out of his stomach, just refreshing comedy that you really do not get anywhere else on TV.

Gary Unmarried is not the smartest or best-written show, and it certainly does not have the strongest acting, but as far as dropping one-liners and coming up with hilarious moments the show is as good as anything else on TV. This week was no exception as the show continues to go strong.moreless

    • Gary: (to Tommy) I was just a guy that was pretty good at High School sports which is nothing to brag about which is exactly why I bragged about it constantly.

    • Gary: Did you see Tommy's report card? Allison: Oh, I know. I have. I'm so proud of him for bringing up that science grade. Thank you for not helping him as much this semester.

    • Gary: Now I know why Tommy's getting a C- in gym. It's 'cause of Krandall. Allison: What are you talking about? Gary: Think about it. When he's at my house, he's with me. Two guys hanging out, right? But when he comes here, he's with 3 women; Louise, you, and Krandall. Allison: Are you implying that Walter is an inadequate male role model? Gary: No, I'm implying that Walter is an inadequate male.
