CBS, known in the television circles as the junior crime stoppers committee based on its slate of detective procedurals, is showing that it can be more than just serious by expanding the orders of a pair of new comedies. Gary Unmarried and Worst Week will go beyond their initial 13-episode orders, but not quite enough to label them full seasons.
CBS's Worst Week had a pretty darned fine day yesterday in the form of a vote of confidence from the entity that signs its paychecks. The network made its first move toward picking up the new comedy for a full season by ordering two more scripts.
It's usually snooze time when it comes to ratings, but during these exciting premiere weeks, it's hard not to take notice. Last night the big question was how NBC's Knight Rider would do. If you recall, the property was rejuvenated in the form of a two-hour movie earlier this year and pulled in decent numbers and poor reviews. And even though there was NOTHING else on television that night, NBC execs saw only the numbers and instantly ordered it to series. That's some thinkin'!
