A car crashes through the ER injuring several hospital members. Former Port Charles resident Jagger Cates returns to town, as does former Night Shift janitor Toussaint; a batch of new interns makes the rounds on the Night Shift.
  • The 2nd season premiere of NS seemed strikingly similar to the 1st season premiere: starting with a bang (car crash instead of exploding ambulance), injury to doctor (Robin instead of Patrick) that is healed very quickly while other's lover is concerned.moreless

    So much to say...

The plot itself seemed to be copied from the 1st season premiere. The opening starts with Robin and Patrick post-coital on the couch (Season 1 started with them getting intimate in the hospital shower). Robin is then run over by a car crashing through the E.R. (similar to the exploding ambulance that injured Patrick). Robin recovers surprisingly quick (like Patrick did) and tries to go back to work ASAP (like Patrick did). Patrick objects (as Robin did). A cast of new doctors learn how to act (as did the newbie nurses from Season 1 did). Well, at least there's no mobsters/janitors or Spin-heads....

What I liked: the return of Jagger (Antonio Sabato Jr. in a towel, HELLO!!), Billy Dee Williams return (although Toussaint's explanation that he'd rather be an orderly than on tour making big bucks didn't ring true)

What I didn't like: NuLeo. Okay, so he's played by Dominic Rain's real-life brother BUT... not only does he look and sound different (he's shorter and his voice more nasally), but the character itself had a complete overhaul. He used to be a cool dude who would give someone a break. Now, he's an overbearing a-hole whom the interns can't stand (and me either, for that matter).

The abbreviated title. I missed the old opening. Granted, they would have to change it since the majority of the first season's cast didn't come back but still... The new cast: the new doc Saira is okay, but the newbies Claire and Kyle seem to be learning how to act as they read the script. Also, it seems like a much smaller cast this year.

The new set: The ER was designed yet again. This one includes a stair case. It looks smaller, as if to take up less space. Looks completely different than the ones featured on GH, Port Charles and Season 1.

However, I'll continue to watch, hoping things will improve.moreless

    • Patrick: I think it'll be a good idea for you to take some time off until the baby comes. Robin: (laughs) And what? Stay home barefoot and pregnant? Patrick: No. You can wear shoes.

    • Patrick: Robin, why the hell is there a half-naked man coming out of your bedroom? Jagger: Sorry about that. Robin: This is Jagger. Patrick: What's a Jagger?

    • Patrick: (thinking he's talking to Robin) Trust me, you're not going to want to come back to work after this baby's born. And that's all right because it's up to you. It's your body, it's your career. You are woman, hear your roar. So, why don't you get that sexy body out here and let me hear you roar? (Jagger comes out from the bedroom only wearing a towel) Jagger: Thanks, but, uh... aren't you going to buy me dinner first?

    • Claire: (about Dr. Leo Julian) What's his problem? Kyle: Oh, didn't you seem him at Ren Fair? He was the one with a jousting pole stuck up his a**.

    • Dr. Ford: Look, here are the candidates for the orderly position. You'll interview them tonight, tomorrow night, and, uh... Epiphany: I am not Barbara Walters. I don't do interviews.

    • Beginning with this episode, the show moves to a new time slot for its second season: Tuesdays at 11 PM EST.

    • Azita Ghanizada (Dr. Saira Batra), Adam Grimes (Dr. Kyle Julian), Ethan Rains (Dr. Leo Julian), Antonio Sabàto Jr. (John "Jagger" Cates), and Carrie Southworth (Dr. Claire Simpson) are added to the cast.

    • Kimberly McCullough (Robin), Jason Thompson (Patrick), Sonya Eddy (Epiphany) and Billy Dee Williams (Toussaint) are the only first season regular cast members to return in the second season as regulars. • Antonio Sabàto, Jr. reprises his former General Hospital role as John "Jagger" Cates beginning with this episode, a role he played from 1992-1994 and again briefly in 1995. Jagger mentions that it has been 13 years since he left Port Charles.

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    ADD ALLUSIONS
    • Patrick tells Robin, "You are woman, hear you roar." This is an allusion to the 1972 Helen Reddy song, "I Am Woman," which includes the lyrics, "I am woman, hear me roar. In numbers too big to ignore."

    • Episode Title: "Crash" This is a reference to the 2004 Academy-Award winning film, Crash.
