With their appearances in this episode, the characters of Robin Scorpio (played by Kimberly McCullough) and Mac Scorpio (played by John J. York) have appeared in four different soap operas, tying Linda Dano's former ABC character "Rae Cummings" as the character having appeared on the most different soap operas.
Robin has appeared on General Hospital on-and-off since 1985; Port Charles in 1998; All My Children in 2001; and Night Shift in 2007.
Mac has appeared on General Hospital since 1991; Port Charles on-and-off from 1997-2003; All My Children in 2001; and Night Shift in 2007.
Guest star John J. York (Mac) is the only General Hospital regular castmember to appear in the premiere episodes of both spin-off series, Port Charles and Night Shift.
Mac (after catching Maxie and Coop in a compromsing situation in a supply closet): What the hell is going on around here?
Maxie: Hi, daddy.
Spinelli: The Jackal is astounded by your, you know, your dedication to your noble craft.
Jolene: And... you're the jackal?
Spinelli: The assassin of cyberspace. Umm, trusted right hand of Stone Cold.
Patrick: Lovely, Leyla. Sorry, that's my meds talking.
Maxie: Oh, I hate volunteer work. Some people aren't cut out for public service.
Jolene: Half the doctors in this hospital want to "mentor" Leyla. Why should Patrick Drake be any different?
Toussaint (about the elevator buttons): Easy, easy... You'll have to be gentle or she'll decide to quit on ya.
Leo: That's what my girlfriend said.
Epiphany: I'm a nurse. I don't tell doctors what to do. I put up with them.
Dr. Ford: (talking to Patrick and Robin) Welcome to the night shift.
The premiere of this episode made General Hospital: Night Shift the highest-rated show in SOAPnet's history.
Although he's shown at the beginning of the episode and credited as being a guest star, Derk Cheetwood (Max) actually has no spoken lines in this episode.
The song playing at the end was a version of The Commodores hit song, "Nightshift," sang by Rie Sinclair.
This episode aired at 5AM EST on July 12th, earlier than its set premier time of 11PM EST.
Episode Title: "Frayed Anatomies"
This is a reference to the show Grey's Anatomy, ABC's popular primetime drama, which also takes place in a hospital.
