A quarantined couple makes Patrick view Robin's HIV status in a new light; a jealous Leo tries to come between Jagger and Saira; Robert's health suffers again; Claire tries to improve Kyle's love life, unbeknownst to him.
  • This was a great episode. Instead of the usual hokey disease of the week, this episode had heart and impacted not only the patients, but also provided depth to Patrick and Robin's relationship.moreless

Night Shift has been hit-or-miss this season. But this episode demonstrated that when done properly, the show can be dramatic, heart-breaking and entertaining all at the same time. Here, the medical crisis du jour was a couple who both suffered cystic fibrosis. Here was a real disease that impacted not only the patients, but shed light on Patrick and Robin's dilemma. Sadly, the episode showed there would be no happy ending and no miracle cure that the doctors could fix. This disease was real and not played for laughs, unlike other "medical" eps this season (girl suffers from months-long PMS; Sussex-induced "French" woman; STDs in seniors; dead "aliens"). Hopefully, the show continues with eps like this for the rest of the season.moreless

    • Patrick: That could be us someday. Moira and Cyrus. Robin: Yeah, I know. You... you don't want this. Trust me, I was with Stone the day he died and, uh... I don't think I can go through that again. Patrick: I'm never gonna have what Stone had, am I? I'm never gonna... I'm never gonna have you the way he did. Robin: That doesn't matter. You're the one that is here with me. You. And I wouldn't trade that for anything. Listen, I need you to be healthy. If anything were to happen to me, you have to take care of our daughter. Patrick: Nothing's gonna happen to you. Our lovely little girl is gonna have two healthy parents. Because our love is strong enough to make that happen. I promise you. Robin: I love you. Patrick: I love you, too.

    • Robert: So... can we move on to other things, like, you know... you and the boyfriend, huh? Robin: Ha. Robert: Come on, look, I-I heard the jibes, my advice has been good in the past, huh? Robin: It has? Robert: Yeah. Robin: Okay. Robert: Come on, just... spill it. Robin: Okay, fine. We had a fight last night. Robert: Mmm-hmm. Robin: It was about sex. Robert: Have you tried calling your mother?

    • Saira: Where's Jagger going? Leo: You just missed him. He told me to tell you... he had to see someone. Saira: Okay. Leo: Disappointed? Saira: His son is a patient of mine. Leo: Do you do the hundred-yard dash for all of your patients or just the ones with washboard abs? Saira: Very mature.

    • Claire: How about this one? He's cute. Kyle: You mean the one with the three little girls. Claire: Mm-hmm. Those are his nieces. It's online code for "I'm good with children." Kyle: Huh. That's funny, in the real world, that's code for "I'm a pedophile." Claire: Just because you've taken a vow of celibacy, doesn't mean the rest of us can't date. Kyle: I date. Claire: Okay, Kyle, you're gonna be old and alone and living with seventeen cats.

    • Kyle: It looks like he got whacked in the face with a baseball bat. Claire: Hey, that could be my future husband you're talking about. Kyle: Your future husband is not named "Rico Suave 412." Claire: Claire Suave. No?

    • After Claire finds his laptop and discovers he's been online dating, Kyle calls her "Nancy Drew." This is an allusion to the literary character, "Nancy Drew," an amateur sleuth and fictional heroine of a popular mystery series of books, written under the collective pseudonym "Carolyn Keene" and first published in 1930.

    • Toussaint refers to Epiphany as "Nurse Ratched" to Robert. This is an allusion to the 1975 film, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, which featured the character of Nurse Ratched (played by Louise Fletcher), a tyrannical nurse who ruled the insane asylum with an iron fist.
