Soap Opera Digest named this episode as "Editor's Choice: Digest Salutes the Best in Daytime" in its November 6, 2007 issue.
It appears that "Patient Barrett" has a tattoo on her lower back similar to the one of Brenda Barrett of the parent series, General Hospital.
When Robin is talking to Lainey in the lockerroom after the shooting, a picture of Robin's step-cousin Georgie (Lindze Letherman) can be seen in Robin's locker.
Kimberly McCullough (Robin), Jason Thompson (Patrick), Minae Noji (Kelly), Bradford Anderson (Spinelli), Amanda Baker (Jolene), Nazanin Boniadi (Leyla), Sonya Eddy (Epiphany), Dominic Rains (Julian), Angel Wainwright (Regina), Richard Gant (Dr. Ford) and Billy Dee Williams (Toussaint) appeared in all 13 episodes of the first season of Night Shift.
In the opening credits, Ron Melendez (Dr. Andy Archer) was listed under "Guest Stars," even though he is a show star, and usually is credited as "Starring."
Robin: I have learned to hate the night shift.
Regina: If you're seriously afraid of not graduating, then it's time for me to be petrified.
Jolene: I'm just saying. The only one who's got it locked is Leyla.
Regina: Huh, you think it's too late for me to improve my chances by sleeping with a doctor.
Leo: If it'll serve the greater good, I'm willing to make the sacrifice.
Patrick: Oh, well, when the tests come back, we'll know if you need surgery.
Patient: I don't want anybody cutting my head open.
Robin: If you do need an operation, Dr. Drake's the best. Just ask him.
Jordan: Who would have guessed the night shift janitor would turn out to be the leader of "The Saints." Ha, ha. I loved that group.
Spinelli: I'm afraid the Angel of Mercy of the formerly Fair Jolene is more like an Angel of Death...
Jolene (to Medcam lawyer Jordan Lovell): If you were sick, would you check yourself into a Mecam hospital?
Young Toussaint: Tell me this isn't going to be me someday.
Toussaint: Oh, not if you're lucky. Work on it.
Young Toussaint: Well, at least you're not bald. I guess... that's something.
Toussaint: I must be in Hell.
Epiphany: You almost died on that table. Dr. Drake did an extraordinary job pulling you through.
Patrick: Nurse Johnson, I think that's the first compliment you've ever paid me.
Epiphany: I said you did a good job. Don't get carried away.
Patrick: Actually, you said "extraordinary." But I'll take it.
Doctor: What did I promise? No scarring. See for yourself.
Patient Barrett: Thank you.
Doctor: The burns on your face were superficial. The bandages were a precaution and they worked. You're just plain gorgeous, Ms. Barrett.
Billy Dee Williams (Toussaint Dubois) was credited as a "Special Guest Star" in every episode of season one.
All of the visual effects for the first season were by Stargate Digital.
The entire first season was videotaped at The Prospect Studios.
Reign Morton who played a Young Toussaint in this episode, is on recurring as an orderly named Cassius on General Hospital. Chrissie Fit, who played Javi's Girlfriend in this episode is also recurring on General Hospital as nanny Mercedes.
The song playing during the shoot-out scene was "I Saw" by Matt Nathanson.
The song playing at the end was a version of The Commodores hit song, "Nightshift," sang by Rie Sinclair. This song also played at the end of the series premiere.
Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos Jr. from General Hospital) appeared once, with no speaking lines, but was not listed in the credits.
Hadeel Sittu (Patient Barrett) face was never shown, but she had speaking lines, and appeared multiple times, yet she was not listed in the credits.
