Generator Gawl

Show Summary

In the future, Professor Takuma Nekasa uncovers a gene that unlocks the human body's greatest mystery and exposes mankind to its greatest threat. So Gawl, Koji, and Ryo, three young scientists travel back in time to September 2007 to correct this mistake from the past. The Catch? They have only three months to save the world from the mysterious and cunning Ryuko Saito and her Generators, genetically-enhanced humanoid creatures (think Power Ranger bad guys but they don't grow to be 50 feet tall). As Ryo and Koji try to complete their mission, Gawl must become like his enemies to fight on their terms. And it may cost him his humanity. All this, while dealing with the craziness of student life with Masami, a college girl, who they've rented a room from her mother, who already views Gawl as weird and annoying. A short anime series directed by Seiji Mizushima and featuring Vic Mignogna in his first lead role. Both of whom would later make their mark in the anime world with the popular series, Fullmetal Alchemist. Number of Episodes: 12 Broadcast: Fall 1998 in Japan. • Generator Gawl RULES!!!!!!!!!!

Whoever put a low score for this show should be punished severely!!! This show is so AWESOME!!!! Gawl is the best character in this show and can kick any Generator's ass! Anyway of course the worst character is that stupid girl Masami. Most girls in animes are jerks. If I had to choose on a second favorite character it would be a tie between Koji and Ryo. It's too bad it's only 12 episodes long though. One of my favorite parts in the first volume is the beginning of the third episode that part's pretty funny.moreless
  • That's the best short anime I've ever seen and uderappreciated too. I completely agree with previous reviewer.

Anime is only 12 episodes long and if I've had 5 hours I would surely watch it at one go. The plot is complicated and interesting, when you watch it, you want more and more. The characters are superb and Gawl is one of my favourite characters of all time. The art is great too especially when considered that it was made in 1998. Such beautifully drawn characters isn't ordinary. When the anime ended I had tears in my eyes (and I have to admit that I'm not someone who is moved easily) not because it was sad but because it ended too quickly. Thanks to taht I will remember that serie to the end of my life.

All in all this is a must watch anime, it has great humour, interesting characters, marvellous plot and art. I highly recommend this one.moreless
  • Highly underappreciated!

I must admit, I was utterly shocked to find that so few people like this show! Generator Gawl is a wonderful program with wit, sarcasm, humour, well-rounded characters, a well-constructed plot, amazing music, and much, much more. With plenty of twists, turns, and surprises in so few episodes, it's hard to believe that the plot could still run so smoothly - but it does. If I may dote upon the characters for a moment - Gawl and Masami are independantly quite dynamic characters, but together are absolutely hillarious. Their interactions and clashes are so funny they often leave me in stitches. Ryo is absolutely... I don't want to use the word "adorable," but there it is. He's terribly compassionate and positively endearing. Koji's... well, he's much like Trowa Barton of Gundam Wing fame. The strong, silent type; but it works for him. Very intelligent, often insightful, and occasionally witty. Natsume is like Ryo, but toned down and with pink hair. And then there's Kanae. Everyone's favourite evil background character. One cannot help but love him. He's so neat! *ahem* But I digress. The characters are wonderfully well-rounded and believable, and only add to the already strong plot. With the exeption of the time when Gawl wears a tube top, Generator Gawl is an excellent anime, and it's a shame that more people haven't realized it yet!moreless
