George Schaefer's Showcase Theatre

Show Summary

George Schaefer Showcase Theatre is a late-night drama series that replays award-winning made-for-TV movies from the past. With over one hundred TV-films under his belt, filmmaker George Schaefer takes time off his busy schedule to present the films that made him famous. Schaefer starts the season with a screening from his 1961 film, Victoria Regina, starring Julie Harris as Queen Victoria. The director was a fan of Shakespeare, and as the season continued, movie fans can find The Tempest, Macbeth (II) and King Richard II on Schaefer's film list. Showcase Theater also presents the director's choice in fantasy films with Man and Superman, Anastasia and Alice in Wonderland presentations in the line-up. Throughout the season, the show varies in genres, giving audiences a full dose of mystery, terror, romance and comedy, all in a one-show format. Most of the films presented in George Schaefer Showcase Theatre won Emmy awards and were Golden-Globe nominated TV movies.
