    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (3)

      • Goof: In the Chief's office while listing all the various failed methods attempted to break the glass cell Max mentions hand grenades, something that was never tried.

      • In this episode 99 reveals her pregnancy to Max. This subplot leading to the birth of twins and the resulting issues of juggling parenthood and spy career will play through the rest of this season.

      • In the original CBS promo for this episode, Max can be seen crashing through the wall (at the end of the teaser) and continuing to run but in the episode itself the scene ends in a freeze frame just as Max hits the wall.

    • QUOTES (1)

      • Chief: Max, here are your follow up instructions. You're to take Professor Pheasant and proceed immediately to Pier 14 where you'll board a Coast Guard cutter to Hawaii. You're to remain in Hawaii for five days until you receive further instructions. Have you got that, Max?
Max: Not all of it, Chief.
        Chief: What didn't you get?
        Max: Professor Pheasant.
Chief: You didn't get Professor Pheasant? Max! Do you know what this means?
Max: I'm not going to Hawaii?

    • NOTES (2)

      • Several changes heralded Get Smart's defection (to properly coin a term!) to CBS: the main title opening is preceded by quick cuts zooming in on The Capitol, The White House, The Lincoln Memorial, and The Jefferson Memorial; Max now drives a gold Opel GT; the opening titles now appear in a bold sans serif typeface, zooming toward the camera (instead of following Max behind the closing doors); Irving Szathmary's theme music is rescored with a more contemporary tempo featuring an intricate organ part; and the title of each episode is revealed at the show' start, followed by writer and director credits.

      • In this episode the faces of Phyllis Diller and Martin Landau make a cameo appearance on Don Adams' face.

    • ALLUSIONS (1)

      • Max: But Doctor Proctor said this is a perfect face for a secret agent.

Proctor has given Max the face of actor Martin Landau, most famous for his role as Rollin Hand in Mission: Impossible. Hand was not only a spy, but his special talent was taking on the appearance of other people.
