    • QUOTES (1)

      • Max: Well, he's been working very hard and he's very tired and when I saw him just last week he didn't look too good.
Talbot: Phil Fillini's been dead six months.
Max: Well, in that case he didn't look too bad.

    • NOTES (3)

      • Among the photos of CONTROL agents who max rejects for the mission are MAD magazine mascot Alfred E. Neuman, the Mona Lisa and novelty entertainer Tiny Tim best known for his top 40 hit Tiptoe Through the Tulips (1968).

      • Barbara Feldon has said that this episode of Get Smart is her favorite from the series.

      • Thinking they are facing certain death, Max proposes to 99. They will be married in Episode #94 ("Love and Twitches").

    • ALLUSIONS (2)

      • The character of the evil bandleader Herb Talbot was based on real life bandleader Herb Alpert who, along with his band the Tijuana Brass, was among the most popular groups of the 1960's. Alpert was also the co-founder of A&M Records along with his partner Jerry Moss.

      • The title is inspired by the popular TV show "Mission: Impossible" (1966-1973), which was also a series about spies. The episode also parodies familiar elements from the show including the tape recorded message which gives our hero his mission followed by the selection of mission participants by examining file photos.
