So, they've got a new class of cadets, more hands on training, and Jason appears to give the weakest recruit the axe every episode. So far, I'm finding it much more worth watching this time around, anyone else agree?

They do that all the time with the Ghost Hunters shows. Ghost Hunters International is starting up again in July, and it's officially called season 2.75 because they've already had season 2 and season 2.5!
