mmm On a saturday night tonight here in australia when i should b out in the city of melbourne partying it up with friends, i didnt, and i hired out the first Disc to season 1 to see what its like, and here i find how weak i am when i cried in every episode (only 4 as only got one disc) it was brilliant, and so tomoro morning im buying the whole lot lol, its already got me hooked. but anyway.... as im all alcohol-ed up a bit and on a random note, this guy ive had a major crush on for over a year i was seeing lastnight, and he lives in Grandview st... how weird i then see it on the first ep. anyway, thats my weird random note, as im out. if u think im weird now...

If you google Grandview there are pics of Grandview in Texas, Missouri and there's a site talking about Grandview in Washington. I think that the city of the show's the one in Missouri.
Oh, and there's a beach called Grandview in California.

In one episode I thought I saw a California Lisense Plate on Mel's car.

But didn't they have one episode where Mel drove up to Maine? (That was the eppy which guest starred JLH's former castmate Lacey Chabert). I think Grandview is just a fictional town, somewhere in the eastern U.S., exact location deliberately left obscure by the writers.

Oh, and also, that California license plate was probably just a blooper, like in "Die Hard 2" where the Bruce Willis character is calling on a pay phone that is supposed to be in the Washington D.C. airport--but if you look at the phone you can clearly see the words "California Bell."

Yeah, maybe Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, or Upper New York State. I think the Melinda character said the drive was 5 hours, but don't hold me to that. Also Grandview has to be in the east because that airliner that crashed in the season one finale flew from S. Africa, which means it crossed the Atlantic ocean--if Grandview was in the Midwest or West air traffic control would've noticed a plane that was carooming off course as it flew across the country, and they didn't seem to notice this plane was off course until near the time it crashed.

Isn't it just a set? It's not real, I don't think. Because its the same place they had back to the future.

Yeah, like I said, it's a fictional town located "somewhere in the east." I'm just saying it seems to be placed in the general area of S. New England or New York state, but the writers left it obscure as to exactly where. Mayberry was a fictional town too, but at least the writers on "The Andy Griffith Show" let us know it was somewhere in the piedmont section of North Carolina.

There are cities name Grandview and Grand View in somewhere between 20-25 cities in the USA. When I did the bio for Melinda on my site, I picked the one in Pennsyvania because it had most in common with established facts from the show. Ohio would have worked too; but being in New England near a river worked better.
