Please tell me it's a rumor - Ghost Whisperer isn't cancelled?! -- Ok.. came here to share a bit of filming-humor with you.. and find out if anybody else noticed...
Love, Love, Loved this! Leap of Faith was very emotional! Thank you Jennifer, for not keeping us hanging like "some" shows would have, for weeks on end, to find out what Sam/Jim would do! Good writing --- Also, I didn't notice the first time I watched this episode, and... I know it wasn't funny but, about 49 minutes in Sam/Jim really cracks his toes on the doorway while swimming to save Melinda! OUCH! That must have hurt... and you can see his feet turn after he swims as if he stopped swimming. I know it wasn't funny, but it was funnier each time I hit 'replay'. lol - Just wondering if anybody else noticed. - Please tell me cancelling this show is a rumor?!!
I had some difficulty with the staging having Melinda trapped in a room of rising water in order to be rescued by Sam/Jim. It seemed contrived and probably physically not possible. Also, the whole "take the backpack with the crowbar in it" reeked of contrivance. Nevertheless, the overall impact was suspenseful and you did wonder if both of them would die and a completely different story arc might begin.
Instead, it looks like Sam/Jim had a near death experience in the water (life flashing in front of his eyes) which banished Sam forever. I thought that was kind of a cool way to end Sam and bring Jim totally back into character.
There were two ghost stories which were subplots. One was a continuation of the Dr. Byrd ghost introduced earlier. At first it looks like he's planning to live again by stepping into someone else's dying body. But, he changes his mind and decides to move on into the light. The other was a ghost who stepped into someone's body three years before and has been tormented ever since. This gets resolved by his deciding to accept his new life as a second chance. Both subplots adequately compliment the Sam/Jim/Melinda situation by providing and showing alternatives they might face. To that extent, they work nicely.
A terrific episode on a terrific show, beautifully written. One of the best episodes of the series. I really hope to see Ghost Whisperer stay on television for years to come.
I've loved this show from the very beginning! Since I lost my mother a couple years ago, this show has, in special way, helped me deal with my grief, it helps remind me that its a good thing to have faith, beliefs, and hope that anything is possible. It makes me think of my mother, and brings to life what every person who has lost a loved one wishes they could do, have that one last moment to say their goodbyes.
It's helped me heal, telling the stories when giving characters closure with the ones they love, and when they go into "the light" they see other loved ones they have lost. It makes me hope that the same is true for everyone, that one day we will all be reunited with the one we love, and lost so suddenly or prematurely.
This show touches the very deepest part of emotions. It illustrates love, compassion, hope, faith, pain, sadness, fear, anger, acceptance, happiness, it does a wonderful job of showing all emotion, as well as not only the good in life, and also the bad, very realistic and true-to-life emotion that comes with the loss of any loved one. I also love the fact that it gives me hope, showing that anything is possible, like the return of Jim to Melinda, I really believe that it is very possible. It may not be proven, "normal" as some would say, but I guess that's what comes with faith, believing in things that can not be seen, heard, or proven to fact.
I encourage all those who love the supernatural, powerful emotion, and many twists and turns in a tv show, that they definately watch ghost whisperer, its a must see for people of all ages!
I was with Eli thinking that Dr. Bird was evil, and ended up being really surprised how it all turned out. Not surprised about Jim obviously as that was destined to happen. But the Dr. Bird was a nice surprise. Melinda was right not to be too judgemental about the old shrink, it would seem. I liked the plot of another 'step in', and how it seemed to point to greater diabolical machinations on Bird's part. I found the Jim/Sam culmination a little weak, but I'm willing to accept it for the simple fact that it is nice to have them back together and have Jim able to be himself again... I wonder if they'll ever bring up Sam's old family again...
A very good episode; in the top 5 episodes I've seen of Ghost Whisperer, easily. Resolution is finally achieved in the Jim/Sam story arc. I was crushed at the beginning when Melinda had given up on Jim. Although it was reasonably obvious that it wouldn't be the end of the issue, it was still touching. Dr. Bird's part in this episode was refreshing, but it did bring up some questions. The idea of another step-in as an experiment of Dr. Bird (along with others) was a great idea, and one that drove the episode to heights it hasn't achieved for weeks.
The finale was heartwarming, and not just the affection shown between Jim and Melinda; I never saw the other begining of a relationship coming, but I loved it. The only issue I had with the episode was that this series has lost focus again. The previous episode gave us an interesting villain in Dr. Bird, and I thought his experiments with step-in's may have formed the basis of the finale of the season; a way for the dead to live again. But, like the second season, it looks like there will be no real villain or conflict until the last couple of episodes of the season.
To watch Jim go from almost giving up and throwing in the towel was devistating and then to see it all turn around and see him finally remember everything from thier past as he rescues her and then to discover he died and jumped into an other body.
This by far has been the best episode yet...it all has been leading to this moment.Am so happy in the way they brought it all together, I laughed I cried,I never left my seat the whole show. It kept me intensly Involved in what was going to happen next.I was soo devistated whenhe died. This was the most appropriate way to bring him back, it's what the show is all about. I am eagerly awaiting what's coming next. The way he finally remembers who he is was the best part , how imaginative of the writers to do it that way, it was a perfect fit for what we all wanted. Bravo!
This episode is the one I have been hoping for. It was well written and as well as very moving. They make such a great couple. I am so glad Jim is back.
Dr. Byrd was not the man I thought he was going to be. First of all Melinda did what he asked her to do and I thought he was going to let her drown but instead he sends Sam (aka Jim) in to save Melinda and this helps him regain his memory and it was a very special time when Jim realized that he was Jim again. I love this show and I will be so devastated when it goes off. I hope that it does not for a long time. Delia even fought for Melinda to give Jim another chance and that really was something for her. Eli was so funny, even though he could not swim, he was going to try to save Melinda and that is a true friend. Thank God Sam decided to go in and get her and he was rewarded by getting his memory back, the one that he can be happy with anyway. Loved this episode and cannot wait until the next.
Oh Happy Days! Jim is back and the Sam storyline is over! This was without shadow of a doubt the best episode this season so far. Now, I hope we get some answers to the questions that were raised since the first season: Where is the mystery man from season one ? where are Melinda's Father & her half brother ? The missing shadow at the beginning of season 4 - Was that referring to the Jim death or something else ?
I honestly cant wait to see what's coming next. Something tells me the Jim thing is still far from over!
Ben gets into Melinda's store through the tunnels. Dr. Byrd is using Ben. The Dr. tells Melinda she can save Jim. She gets into a situation and Sam, has a near death experience and forces him to remember he is Jim. In the end their love is restored.
This episode is why I love this show. Jim is the perfect man that every woman wants. He gives her messages, he takes care of her, and comforts her. Sam Lucas is a nice man, but he doesn't have the level of understanding for Melinda as Jim does. I think the show made the right decision of bringing Jim back. The manner in which the show chose to bring him back was amazing. I believe Melinda and Jim will be able to have their love and begin the family that they always wanted too. I am so glad this episode was written the way it was. I can't wait to see what happens next.
Our prayers, or at the very least my prayers, have been answered as the Sam/Melinda experiment appears to be over and we're back to Jim and Melinda. I think the producers realized that nobody thought this was a good idea and wrapped it up earlier than expected.
I also liked the second episode with Phil Hartman, err, Dr. Bird, and it felt like this character could have continued on as a good antagonist for Melinda for some more episodes, but entertaining story arcs are not exactly Ghost Whisperer's forte. But the utility areas and water buildup was a fun adventure, reminiscent of this season's premiere, only with H2O and not it's rival fire.
But a good episode overall, and I may have been a little generous with my score based on how happy I am that Sam is gone.
The most wonderful episode this season. The new storyline was becoming really very difficult and painful for the characters. I never hoped that Jim would remember everything and forget beeing Sam. I was just petrified during the scene where Jim remembered his wedding, meeting Melinda, giving her baths... It's just so great.
And then I never expected that Melinda would cross-over Dr. Byrd. I thought that he is just pure evil (just like Eli thought). It turns out that he just wanted to live again, but when he saw how difficult life becomes after the step-in, he went into the light. This episode also helped me to understand what Justin's girlfriend meant when she said that "You can live again" in the 3rd season's episode The Gravesitter.
All in all, I could not have even hoped for a better ending of the Jim/Sam storyline. Now I just wish that the rest of this season would be at least half as great as this episode and that the storyline would now evolve around the underground. Long live Jim and Melinda! (please don't die again!)
I love the part where Sam/Jim was baptized by the water. This is like a rebirth. In any religious tradition this scene was like going through the birth canal. People have to give permission to be possessed. Either by a step-in spirit or a full on possession. Sam finally gave in to the idea of being Jim. The cast, writers, producers, etc. did a really good job. I am surprised that Eli can show that much emotion. Of course, he is dating Melinda in real life. I guess that he can pull from all of that emotions. I hope that David Conrad can be more than a supporting husband for the rest of the season.
I missed the first four-five minutes of the episode which I'm terribly mad about but the rest of the show I did watch and every thrill, twist, and turn had me on the edge of my seat.
The story line this episode was very refreshing in the fact that it wasn't the normal "see the light, Why won't you go into the light, I love you, Goodbye" ghost story. This one explained the whole Jim and Ben scenario of a step in. It was good to see that Jim wasn't the only spirit that wasn't ready to crossover and refused death by stepping in to another body. I always had a hard time believeing that jim was the only one who'd do something that drastic.
Also We can Finally call him JIM!!!!! yay. the scene when he was drowning was intense and beautiful and haunting. Well done of the directors, cast, cameramen and anyone else involved in that shot. It was beautifully done.
The scene with Eli, its about time we get to see him really mad and angry instead of comical and frightened. He was angry at Dr. Bird for using Psycology as an excuse as to what he does. He was also more pronouncedly angry at Jim when he asked if he was really goping to risk his life for melinda. and Eli told him that he was only doing what she would do and did he really see her as so expendable that he wouldn't even attepmt to save her. This episode really tied everything about this fourth season up for me. Its about taking a leap of faith in life and hoping you land on solid ground and if you don't you know how to swim or have someone by you willing to help you. When Jim died he was willing to take a leap of faith by stepping into Sam's body for melinda, When melinda found out Jim didn't remember he she was willing to take a leap of faith by letting him live with her, also she took a leap of faith in telling him her abilities and then telling him about the fact that he is her husband. Jim took a leap of faith by going to that bycle shop and saying th e name "Jim Clancy" He took a leap of faith by going to see Eli, by going down into those tunnles after him, and then he took the biggest leap of faith by willingly sacrificing himself for melinda. Heck even Eli took a leap of faith this season by belinving int hje paranormal and accepting it. Even Dr. Bird took a leap of faith at the end by helping melinda and then crossing over.
Leaps of faith we make them everyday and I was glad that this episode really ephisised that. This episode gets a 10/10 but it would be much higher if the scale went higher.
