  • Excellent start to the series

I just recently began watching this show and in my opinion this episode was a great start. It leaves you wanting to find out what happens and you are always disappionted when the adverts begin. As more of the story unravels, your excitement builds up and you want to know more. I thought the idea of a dead soldier was a great way to start the show. It was cleverly planned the way he was triggered because of his son's wife being pregnant. It's better because if he had been roaming for that long you would have thought that he would have been to see Melinda by now so it was clever the way the episode was plotted.

It makes you feel mixed emotions because your sad that he never saw his son but you are happy he was able to pass over. It also makes you feel scared when the man appears and some of the scenes are actually quite dark and may scare you! All in all, it was a great way to start the show.
  • Wentworth Miller

Alright, alright... I'll admit that the first time I got attracted to this series is because they showed Wentworth Miller in the pilot. But it's a very emotional pilot!

A dead father's spirit came back to visit his son that he'd never seen. Even though when at first the father's spirit looked like hell, but then it became clearer and clearer. He tried to remember where his chopper was shot down and fell. He remembered that his wife was carrying his soon-to-be-born baby, but at the final moment he realized that he'd never get to see his son.

Who would've thought that he finally get to meet his son, even communicate with him through Melinda.

With Melinda's curiosity, the place where the chopper was shot down could be located, and the ghost could have a "proper burial". This led him to see a light, where his next destination is going to be.

Wow I have only just started watching Ghost Whisperer. In the UK they have just finished rerunning Season One on E4. I am addicted already. I think its excellent. It has everything a girl could want.... comedy, scariness, romance, fashion, beauty, friendship... I could go on & on. I watched the pilot episode after watching the last 10 episodes of Season 1... so a bit backwards. It was fantastic and it works brilliantly at giving the viewer an excellent taster of what is to come. If I'd seen it in the correct order I woul def of carried on watching.

I must also add that I think it is a wonderful move to have great likeable characters with strong relationships in the programme. Too many shows have two faced characters and stressed relationships. Its so refreshing. I certainly prefer to watch this positive angle rather than arguing and nastiness.
  • This is the Pilot episode for season 1 of Ghost wispers. Melinda, played by Jennifer Love Hewitt, is haunted by the dead who has unfinished business and needs her help communicating messages to the living.

When I first started to watch this show I was unsure if I would like it or not. The pilot episode started off a little slow. It took a while for me to get into it. I thought they could have done a better job with drawing the audience in the episode. Wentworth Miller, who played Sgt Paul Adams (deceased) did an excellent job in this episode. You can see more of him on the TV series Prison Break. He plays the role of Michael Scofield. As far as Jennifer Love Hewitt, I think she is a great actress but I really wasnt feeling it this episode. I think it is very important to capture the audience attention during the pilot episode. Unfortunately, this was not achieved.
  • Meet Melinda Gordon...

Melinda Gordon has seen, heard and talked to ghosts since she was a child with the guidance of her grandmother, helping spirits to cross to the other side. On her wedding day with the paramedic Jim Clancy, the ghost of Sergeant Paul Adams, who was missing in action in Vietnam, comes to her, asking Melinda to contact his son Michael Adams. Michael believes Melinda is a fraud, but when his wife forces him to call the Pentagon giving the leads Melinda gave them, the army finds the remains of his father.

The pilot episode of Ghost Whisperer promises an interesting series supported by the sweet Jennifer Love Hewitt. The simple story is beautiful, but predictable and without any surprises or twists. It is difficult to understand why the soldier of a war of the 60's and 70's has expected so many years to contact Melinda.

Ghost Whisperer has by far the best pilot episode I have ever seen.

It kept me excited from beginning to end.

Melinda Gordon is a woman with a gift.

Her gift is to see the dead and talk to them so she can help them to finish their unfinished buisness.

In the first episode Melinda Gordon gets married to a man who knows her secret.

She is haunted by a soldier who died in the war of Vietnam and thinks he is still in the same time period.

The story line of the first ever episode for Ghost Whisperer is just amazing.

The writing of this esiode is very good.

It is like a treasure box of emotin being reavealed and let out into the open.

We feel fear in somes scenes, sadness in others and we cherich the life we are thanful to have.

The idea of starting the episode with her weddig was Tres bien which is french for very good and the end which was a man asking her 'Can you see us ' was scary and exciting .

The pilot really sts te mood of rush and speed of feeling.

    Like the dream Melinda had.

And the acting was just inspiring.

Jennifer Love Hewitte was born for this show.

    Bravo indeed and great show.

i loved watching it i was dying to know what would actually happen i was gutted that melinda's best friend had died though i thought they made a great team. all the characters were great in that episode. all of the ghost though that melinda had to cross over there were loads of them. and that man that was dressed in black and his friend that was always with him they were quite frighting. while i was watching that film i had chills always wondering what was going to happen. i love watching ghost whisperer i have never missed it yet

That was a great way to start a series with Melinda getting married. Also her helping a soldier and at the end finding his body that has been missing for a long time. I thought that was romantic when Melinda didn't want to tell Jim because she thought it would spoil the moment. I also thought it was romatic when Jim bought her a house. It is really cool how she has a owns an antique shop and how it all plays out as she is helping these ghosts. This is a great series and will last a long time.

I love this show!!! Ghost Whisperer is my favorite show. I really liked the pilot episode. I think it did a good job of starting off the show and gave us a good idea of what to expect in the future. With all of the emotions you feel as you watch the show, you can't help but get hooked. I mean if every episode you not only are scared, but you cry and laugh too. It's such a good yet wierd combination, and they portrayed them all perfectly in the Pilot episode. Although it wasn't actually the first episode I saw, I'm sure I would have been hook instantly if it had been. This episode is one of the best!

This episode is about a former soldier that died 30 years ago in Vietnam. The ghost haunts Melinda until she soon helps him. He comes into her house, as Melinda says they shouldnt. The soldier says he doesnt remember what happened and he said he went home and saw that his wife was pregnant, but actually that wasnt his wife. It was his sons wife that was pregnant. Melinda tells his son that she see's his dad, but he thinks she is crazy. He soon comes to her house, and the soldier soon crosses over into the light. At the end of the episode, they have a funeral for the dead soldier.

Loved this pilot, in my opinion it has to be one of the best new shows of 2005-06 TV season. Had a wonderful set up so you understood what was going on. It didn’t just jump right into a story and make you try to catch up and figure out what she could do. It has a great combo of people playing the characters with awesome chemistry. Jennifer Love Hewitt does a great job playing Melinda Gordan. Very emotional show with just the right amount of scary mixed in. Couldn’t wait to see the rest of the season. Hope this show will last a long time.

it was a nice episode that made itself watched, but it lacks the power and the creativity that needed to pin people down and make them wonder what will happen or anything.

almost everything we've seen was used before. Some great parts like the brother being dead and the ghosts in the cafe were nice but as i said, they werent anything new..

So this made me watch the show at the edge of losing my interest to it.Anything appealing in any other channel could easily cool me of cos they gave us nothing to wonder or solve, just a ghost story that we've seen thausands of times. So;ghost whisperer is just a show i'll watch if i have nothing else to do.
  • Great Pilot, looking forward to the rest of the season

I have to admit that when I first heard of this show I thought of "Tru Calling". Both shows is about a female talking to the dead, and in a way they both have to do work for them. But the show had me glued from the moment i turned on the tv. Loved Wentworth Miller as the soldier dad that never got to see his son, and the scene when the son begins to believe Melinda and talks to his dead father made me almost cry as it is a scene full of emotions. The tears in Wentworths eyes really made an impact. Cant wait for next wedensday.
  • Terrifying and unbelievable................ I write this review with the thought that others might have the foresight to read this before subjecting themselves to the worst pilot/tv show I've ever seen.

    1.0
    "Abysmal"
This episode and indeed the one that followed it was absolutely abysmal. I write this review with the thought that others might have the foresight to read this before subjecting themselves to the worst pilot/tv show I've ever seen.

This was a train wreck in terms of television production; it was clunky, cliched, dog fodder television of the highest disorder. The only thing spiritual I got from this was my solemn prayers for it to come to an end. I had high hopes having seen a smattering of trailers and indeed when watching the opening minute or so when the viewer is introduced to a junior Melinda being trained by gran-ghost whisperer in the fine art of going "towards the light." This entire show seems a vehicle for Jennifer Love Hewitt and her mammoth mammories. I struggled to find a single scene that she didn't flounce about in a gossimer thin dress and espouse wooden dialogue with the most two-dimensional characters (though the word character suggests that there is some semblance of personality in these humanoid Daleks.) Jim is a muppet; literally! He just bounces about rubbing poor Melinda's head and dribbling out some nonsense that seems to have been plagiarised from "the notebook" and "a walk to remember" (Terrible Nicholas Sparks tripe) I had high hopes that Jim's brother would prove a love interest and thus add a spark to this direness but twas not to be as it transpired that he was busy doing the whole "light going" thing.

The truth of the matter was that at its core this tv show was demeaning and it relentlessly conspired to make you aware that it was a tv show. It jumped from scene to scene without allowing an ease of passage and made me feel that in order to truly derive any pleasure from this episode/show I would need to ease myself into the notion of it with a few rounds of playing punch bag to Mike Tyson's fists. Perhaps then I would find some aspect of it conceivably plausable, fluid and interesting.

And the Pentagon! They were helpful. Wentworth's son gets on the phone nearing midnight and they shake up some officiates in Vietnam on the word of some random dude who has heard from someone he considers to be a crackpot that a chopper crashed near a waterfall. Exceptionally plausible.

I really didn't care whether wentworth went off into the light or not. This Tv series should never have made it to episode 2 on the basis that it's production was just simply shoddy; it clunked along like the tin-man down a never ending yellow brick road. I accept that this is supposed to be fantasy/sci-fi but even in star-trek the aliens seemed to interact with a more familiar, humanistic bint. Surely a smile or even some banter to lighten the load and give us a sense like this isn't just going to run its linear course of Melinda doing good, suffering a little torment over her dual gift/burden and Wentworth's son gushing like a two year old kid whose pet dog got flattened by a falling tree with jubilance at speaking to his long dead, mythical father would have enhanced this. Every word seemed central to the plot and completely eschewed the necessity for character development.

In fact this pilot had me watching really eagerly for quite a while; the clock!

Please save yourself from wasting 45 minutes of your life and just switch off or over from ghost whisperer.
  • A decent pilot for an underrated drama. Good acting and writing.

    8.0
    "Great"
I remember the summer before the 2005-2006 season, when all of the critics were reviewing the fall shows. "Ghost Whisperer" was being abused pretty back, and got lots of negative reviews. However, I still intended to watch it because, as a fan of sci-fi/fantasy shows, I wanted to check out all of the genre pilots.

After reading dozens of pretty bad reviews, my expectations for "Ghost Whisperer" were pretty low. So when I actually watched the pilot, I was surprised. Was I watching the same show that the critics were watching? This show was not bad at all.

The pilot, while it certainly is not perfect, is quite entertaining. Unfortunately it has the feel of a CBS show - I usually hate everything on CBS. But at least it was not a crime procedural. I didn't find the music corny or overbearing like the critics accused it of being, either.

The acting is pretty good, overall. Jennifer Love Hewitt brings a certain quality to her character that works perfectly, even though Hewitt is not known for her outstanding acting skills. Guest star Wentworth Miller, who is usually a great actor, is not my favorite here.

The episode is also actually a tad creepy in some places, such as when Wentworth's character first appears to Melinda. It's also emotional, and actually made me tear up some when I first saw it. But still, it was creepier than NBC's "Surface".

Another thing I can appreciate is the fact that the people in Melinda's personal life know about her secret, which avoids the typical scenario of her trying to hide it or people not believing her. But here her fiance and best friend know of her ability, which gives her moments to confide in people and tell them how she's being affected by what's going on.

The episodes not-so-great moments included a few times where it felt too...fluffy, I suppose, like it was trying to be cozy. Belthezar Getty's acting was a little disappointing in some scenes as well, and is much better in "Alias", which he was a cast member of in that show's fifth season.

Had I been reviewing this show back when the show first started, I might have rated it higher than 8, but since I know the show gets better I can't rate the pilot as high as I might have.
  • An amazing episode. If the rest of the series is going to be this great, then I can\'t wait!

    9.2
    "Superb"
I really wanted to see this series, and when I heard that it was going to be shown in the UK, I made sure I didn\'t miss it. And in all honesty, I\'m so glad that I didn\'t, because it\'s amazing. I\'ve never particuarly liked Jennifer Love Hewitt before, but her brilliant acting in this show has changed my mind completely.

The script was very well written, and very touching. By the end of the episode, I was crying, because of how heart warming it was.

The only criticism I can think of, and even though it\'s understandable, the skepticism of some of the characters was annoying. If this was in future episodes, however, I\'d grow to accept it.

    An amazing episode. Well done.
  • I'm not sure if this wasn't too good a start to a new series because I don't see how future episodes can live up to this!!

    10
    "Perfect"
It takes a lot of television to keep me amused for an hour, particularly during the ad breaks, but this new series certainly managed it. The characters meshed beautifully, and the opening scene was long enough to explain who she was but not so sickly sweet that you wanted to slap her. Wentworth Miller gave a heartbreaking, understated performance that had me in tears, and I really don’t know how they’re going to keep up the momentum after that kind of start – let’s hope it’s not a one hit wonder! The cast established their characters early on and seemed comfortable in the parts from the outset, which is always a good sign. Masses of promise, I hope it can live up to it.
  • The best show I have ever seen. Beautiful, rivoting and hopeful. Melinda is so cool!

    10
    "Perfect"
This was so amazing. Melinda Gordon is the kind of main character that everyone could love. Sweet, Down-to-Earth (despite her gift), and not to mention a Beautiful Young Woman. So this show would be great for all genders, ages, and anyone who wants to believe or does that hope is alive, even after death. I found Melinda to be a very wise and optimistic person and hey, she even has a romantic heart on her. It really touched me how she told Jim about what his brother told her to say before he passed on. Melinda shows that heroes don't have to fight, they just have to have the will and the way that she so obviously does. Her Iron-Will and spirit would be a true television treasure. Don't let this show be cancelled!!!!!!!!!
  • This show needs to prove itself through the next episodes.

    6.6
    "Fair"
What to say? This show needs more than the pilot episode to be given a real value. The main concern is that the train of the action is a bit slow to take place. And it is very hard to catch a proper rhythm. After a great opening, with her as a kid being introduced to interactions with the deads, the intensity goes down, although there are many occasions where dead people appear. They try to make it up with the music, intended to make us feel terrified and afraid for her, but it is more annoying than anything… There is a touch of humour though, with all those dead people who are as needy and nagging than the alive ones.
  • Pilot episode shows promise. Melinda Gordon takes a big step into the real world of spirits when she looses her grandmother. Is the real world ready for her though?

    9.3
    "Superb"
More often than not when the subject of spirits and an afterlife comes to a TV program it is filled with mysticism or plane fright and scare tactics. This episode shows promise of an accurate portrayal of what real mediums experience from day to day. I only hope they don't turn this into a freaky Friday kind of program.

This episode is great and keeps you entertained the whole way though.

I also seem to notice they won't be touching the subject of reincarnation with a ten foot pole. Reincarnation is a very common belief among most mediums.
  • It's a start....

it's an interesting episode for a pilot but it didn't really got me hooked already.. I didn't feel like this episode had the ability to make me want to watch the next episode.

I'll watch again next week to see if it is really something for me.

Though I am liking the whole spirits needing to find peace so they can move on. I like the plot but it could be that I don't really like Jennifer Love Hewitt as the main character... Never was a fan of her really and I'll just see what the show brings next week...

though I did like that the Prison Break actor was in this episode.. I forgot his name, sorry :P But his storyline was interesting..

Two of the main cast members have just gotten married, and we are quickly introduce to the bride's secret: she can talk to ghosts.

Melinda is approached by a ghost from the Vietnam war, who wants to reconnect with his pregnant wife. But, we soon learn that this would be impossible since she has died, but he has a son who is now married with a baby on the way.

Melinda tries explaining to Paul's son Micheal, that his dad's spirit is in limbo, which he dismisses very quickly because he believe Melinda is a con artist looking for a quick buck.

In the end Micheal is able to trust Melinda when she tells him to contact the Pentagon on a helicopter crash that happened in a remote area in Vietnam during the war.

Overall the pilot was good, but I expected it to be a lot more powerful than it was.

A pilot is supposed to grip you into it and not let you go, this pilot did not accomplish that.
  • A great opening chapter of a new show.

    9.6
    "Superb"
In the pilot episode of "Ghost Whisperer", I found it rather touching and exciting to see a show like this on the air. One thing that I enjoyed about the episode is how we viewers were introduced to the main characters of Melinda, her husband Jim, her business partner Andrea and see how Melinda helps Earthbound spirts cross over.

I must say that when we see the first spirit that Melinda helps begins at her wedding reception when she sees the earthbound spirit of a soldier who went MIA during the Vietnam War, we don't know at first what he wants. It took a little time, however, before he made his intentions better known to Melinda, because of the way that his spirit is written, makes you wonder what sinister plan he may have in mind that he wants excuted, but as the show wears on, we see that the soldier wants to get home to see his pregnant wife, not realizing that he died when his helcopter crashed all those years ago and that the pregnant woman that he sees is actually his son's wife.

Another thing that I liked about the episode is how when Melinda went to talk to the soldier's son. Right off the bat you knew that he wouldn't believe a word that she was telling him about what she knew about his father and how she found out. It was after she told her story and how she was kicked out of the house made you wonder what would happen next, and then you get happy to find out that the son's wife had him call the Pentagon to eventually confirm the story that Melinda told. When the son went to aplogize for his actions afterwards, I found it touching the way that the father was able to tell his son that he was proud of him and that he wishes he could have been around to see him grow up, and now that he found his son, he was going to watch out for his family.

However, the one thing that I didn't like about the episode was the ending, after the soldier crossed over. We see Melinda watching on from a distance the funeral of the soldier when she see a dead family standing by a grave. The man looks up, sees Melinda and walks towards her asking if she could see them when the episode ends, and that part of the story not being mentioned afterwards.

In all, I found this to be one entertaining, well written pilot episode.

I was struck by the fact the series pilot opened with a story of a Fifth Infantry Division soldier KIA in Quang Tri Province. I served in the unit and it is seemingly little known in the media. The Director, Bill Norton seems to have some first hand knowledge of the units and the area involved. Is Norton a Vietnam Veteran, a Sundowner of the 108th FA Group, who flew with the Catkillers, supporting the 3rd Marines and 5th Infantry in Quang Tri Province? See http://www.societyofthefifthdivision.com/LT_Bill_Norton.htm .... we are still trying to locate LT Norton.

One of the best pilots of the new season. Everything seems right from the great sets to the wonderful music. Jennifer Love Hewitt is perfect in a lovable sweet character and the script was truly heartbreaking. I'm not a particularly sensitive guy but I admit I was close to tears in the final minutes. To end let me just say that Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) who gave a magnificent performance is one of the best new actors around.

    A great episode. Quality TV.

I thought it would be a silly show, but as the episode went on and the story was being reaveled i got more and more hooked up. It's really unpretentious, and i liked the balance between humor and drama... I wont miss the next episode.

I read some pretty bad reviews, I guess some people were expecting something different, more like the "supernatural".
