Ned: Lucy just told the school she did all those hauntings. The scoreboard, the bleachers, the bat in Krista's car, everything.
Melinda: What? Why would she do that?
Ned: It's like she's trying to protect Thomas.
Professor Payne: Thomas is a ghost, what is she protecting him from, purgatory?
-
Professor Payne: Oh come on Melinda what are you afraid of? Everyone you've ever helped they already know you can see ghosts!
Melinda: I am afraid of people like you. Of becoming a case study so that people can understand things that can't be understood. And while I'm under that microscope, I can't even help the spirits that actually need me.
Professor Payne: You've really thought this through haven't you?
Melinda: My whole life.
-
Professor Payne: For you it's old tat, but let's not forget that I'm an academic and you, you're sweet, kind, caring, forgiving Melinda right? Don't I have an obligation it's my job to write down what I observe?
(Melinda stares angrily)
Professor Payne: Remember you're sweet, kind, forgiving Melinda.
-
Melinda: Have you ever heard of a slambook?
Professor Payne: Of course I have. The internet's wonderful contribution to ruining reputations everywhere.
-
Professor Payne: I know a geek who knows a geek.
-
Ned: Hey mom? Be mad at me, ok? Not Melinda. I'm the one that pushed her to help.
Delia: I'm not mad at anybody. I'm just proud of you. For wanting to help your friend.
Ned: Lucy? She's not really my friend. She called me "Ted."
Delia: You see, that's what I mean. You didn't care what anybody might call you, you still stuck your neck out anyway. Your sweet, beautiful neck. I used to kiss it when I put you to bed. That was just a second ago, Ned. And now you're all grown up. I am... so proud of the man that you are becoming.
(They hug each other)
-
Professor Payne: Guano boy is better than nothing. At least he is not invisible. Hello? Do you guys even hear what I'm saying?
(And no one answers)
-
(Talking about basketball)
Melinda: Oh I hope he gets a touchdown!
