  • Solid episode, but plot was easy to figure out.

Melinda and Jim (the form of Sam is not shown in this episode) volunteer to chaperone a school dance when the ghost of a woman appears to Melinda and asks her to keep an older boy named Tim Dwight away from her daughter Kristy Marks. The woman named Deborah Marks had recently died in an accident in her home. She is worried about her daughter's feelings for Tim who was saved from a juvenile detention center by Deborah. It is later learned that Tim was put up for adoption by Deborah while in college before she was married to her husband. Melinda helps the father and daughter cope with the death of a wife and mother explaining to them the story behind the relationship between Tim and Deborah. Tim gets a chance to say goodbye to his birth mother through Melinda.

Melinda and Jim keep setting times for a date and it gets cut short by Melinda either because of a ghost that is present or by having to investigate what happened to the ghost. In the end Jim is discouraged and tells Melinda that her heart is not in it yet because her husband had recently died. She tells him it is and kisses him and they leave for a date.

A very good episode, but it was pretty predictable that Tim and Kristy were brother and sister and they didn't know it.
  • Melinda helps a ghost. Yeah, really, she does.

I have to say that the Melinda and Jim/Sam stuff was actually tolerable here. I still think that this storyline is doing more harm than good for the long-term growth of the show and for the short-term appeal of the program as well.

The actual ghost storyline was a little bit confusing, but we got a fine payoff in the end. I loved Delia freaking out at the kids during the dance among many other subtle things here.

This was not a blowaway episode by any means but after last week's debacle it is good to know the show is right back on track.
  • The supporting cast has more face time. Sam and Melinda start to date. Melinda hasn't told Sam her gift yet. It is just David Conrad and no more flashes of the other actor.

Melinda and Sam go to chaperone Ned's High School dance. A mother is attached to her daughter. The daughter is dating a bad guy who spiked the punch. Tim, the mother's assistant tried to help out the girl. Tim is the girl's half brother and the mother's baby, whom she gave up for adoption. There were misunderstandings. The daughter thought that her mother was having an affair with Tim. The daughter was falling for her 1/2 brother. The mother died in a freak accident. In the end, the son forgave the mother. She crossed over. Melinda is starting to lie to Sam. They are really cute.
