Suspense only increases after vandalism attacks Hurston school but the Ghostwriter team never gives up. Lenni wisely suggests turning their talent show into a Community Jam against Violence. Once again, I'm impressed with the high levels of kid power that the show has inforced.

Meanwhile, tension stills high for the mystery at hand. Rob gets upset when the team wants to put Victor down as a suspect and wants to prove he’s innocent. This isn't easy because both Victor and his brother Quincy are ex-gang members. While there's no on screen blood or shooting, we learn the consequences of such actions when Rob notices Quincy in a wheelchair. No TV14 rating is needed. The young audience gets the message.

The scene between Rob and Victor walking in a Brooklyn park on a cold gray day could look grim but it turns out to be a peaceful atmosphere for two teens to talk about their problems freely. (I still wonder why Jason was never introduced to the TV show.)

Things look like they might start to turn out for the better until more graffiti is found in Hurston. And with all the pressure from kids in school and on the track team, Rob wonders how Victor is going to handle it.moreless

    • Victor: I don't think the Thunderheads trashed the school.
      Rob: But Miguel warned you-
Victor: (Shakes head) It's personal between me and Miguel. He'd come after me, not the school.

    • Lenni: Parents are worried about violence.
      Ghostwriter: So am I!
Lenni: I wish I could do something to help.
Ghostwriter: People coming together can sometimes stop violence.

    • (Victor sings his rap "For Quincy")
Victor: With my fists shoved high up in the sky
With my mouth so wide I could cry
With my stomach wound tight like a bow
I scream no! I scream no!
No more racing up and down all our streets
No more dancing to the beat with your feet
No more wrestling me around all on the floor
      No more just walking up
And heading straight for the door
      What was it for?
      What was it for?

    • Jamal: All I have to do is say, "Yo, Jas! How about going to the Star Jam with the hottest, most handsome, most awesome guy in all of Hurston?" (Alex coughs) She'll melt right there at my feet.
      Alex: Jamal!
      Jamal: What?
(Alex points to Jasmine right behind him)
Jasmine: Even if I was a stuck of butter that had been left out of the refrigerator for three whole days, you would not be hot enough to melt me, Jamal Jenkins.
Alex: Looks like you blew it man.
      (Alex walks off laughing)

    • Rob: Why'd you join the Thunderheads?
Victor: To have some partners. Guys who look out for you. Watch your back. We hang together, talk about stuff, cop a few things sometimes...
      Rob: Steal?!
Victor: Look, the streets are just totally wack sometimes. And the guys, well, I knew it as family. You know what I'm saying? Like a second family.
Rob: Yeah, I've kind of got a second family too.
      Victor: A gang?
Rob: No. But not that different, I guess.
