The last part was a little disapointing-I Would have expected aLL the Castaways to try to persuade the Chief to come back-not just Mr Howell and Gilligan
  • Hilarious

This is one of the funniest episodes of the entire series! I am shocked to see this rated so low. I suspect it has to do with viewers' disappointment in light of the fact that this is the series finale. Is it a series finale as we know them today? Of course not! Not only were series finales typically uncommon in the '60s, but the show itself was intending to come back for a fourth season. As a standalone episode, this is one of the best. Great guest stars, great dialogue, great sight gags. Shocked to see it rated so low here.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (2)

  • QUOTES (1)

    • Skipper: How do I look?
Gilligan: You look like a bowl of soggy shredded wheat.
Skipper: I've seen whisk brooms that look better than you

  • NOTES (5)

    • This is the last time that the whole Gilligan's Island cast would appear altogether in their Castaway roles. In the next three reunion movies Tina Louis does not appear as Ginger Grant.

    • The survivers of the show also appeared in an episode of Roseanne in an episode where the cast of Roaseanne played each of them in a dream sequence and then the surviving members of the cast of Gilligans Island played the charectors of Roseanne at the end of the episode

    • Theme of episode: As Margaret Wolfe Hungerford said, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

    • Stanley Adams committed suicide in 1977 by shooting himself.

    • This was the final episode before the show got cancelled. The reason the show got cancelled was because they had to let some shows go and the wife of the CBS president loved Gunsmoke, so he renewed Gunsmoke and got rid of Gilligan's Island. The popularity of the series called for 3 reunion movies "Rescue from Gilligan's Island," "The Castaways From Gilligan's Island," and "The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island." Also the surviving members made a guest appearance on "ALF" reprising their roles in a dream sequence.

    • In the scene where the men are dressed as women, Mr. Howell alludes to the popular World War II era female singing group, The Andrews Sisters, when he calls the Professor and the Skipper "Maxene" and "LaVerne".
