Mrs. Howell eats and enjoys "sugar beets" but is shown eating common red beets.
Goof: Skipper jokes to Mary Ann that it's a good thing she doesn't have his legs, otherwise she wouldn't be able to get into "those shorts." But Mary Ann was wearing a short skirt.
Factual error: Gilligan finds truffle seeds. Truffles are a fungus and don't have seeds. They also grow only around the roots of certain hardwood trees, not the palm trees found on the island.
Factual error: The Skipper is excited about finding Idaho potato seeds in the crate, but potatoes aren't grown from seeds. They're grown from potato segments with "eyes" on them.
In this episode, the Professor and Mary Ann seem perplexed as to how they will grow vegetables in such a sandy environment, yet in one of the very first episodes, they already have a successfully grown garden (which is threatened by a blight).
Skipper: Gilligan, aren't you frightened?
Gilligan: No.
Skipper: You're not?
Gilligan: I'm too scared to be frightened.
Professor: The possibilities are limitless. Why the increase in the strength of vitamins alone could make us healthier than we ever were before.
Skipper: Yes, if it doesn't kill us first.
Gilligan: We'll be the healthiest dead people alive.
Gilligan: I bet your father didn't grow anything on that farm of his.
Mary Anne: He did too.
Gilligan: How could he? I wasn't there to do all the work.
Theme of episode: As ye sow, so shall ye reap.
