    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (3)

      • After Burt is released from prison, the pigeon heads back to the island and a shot of the castaways on the island is shown. However, the shot is the shot of the castaways sitting at the beach that is seen in the closing credits. Cheap!

      • The Professor said, "Birds are a spider's worst enemy, even if the spider is gargantuan." He forgot that some spiders eat birds.

      • When Skipper feeds mango pie to the pigeon, you can see birdseed fall out of his hand.

    • QUOTES (1)

      • (The castaways, except for the Professor, overfed the pigeon.)
Professor: (grilling the Howells) Surely YOU'RE not a member of this 'Take a pigeon to lunch' bunch.

    • NOTES (3)

      • In the 2005 DVD release of Gilligan's Island, Season 3, this episode appears to have notably worse picture quality than the other episodes on the set. It is especially apparent with the opening titles. The images are not as crisp and clear as in other episodes and the colors appear somewhat flat.

      • Theme of episode: Freedom for one sometimes leads to imprisonment for others.

      • Sterling Holloway, of course,is better known as the famous voice for Walt Disney's beloved version of A.A.Milne's classic teddy bear WINNIE THE POOH. Born on January 4,1905, in Cedartown, Georgia, Holloway was on radio, vaudeville, Broadway, movies, Tv,and such using his distinctive voice; was in Disney cartoons (1939 on), and TV's LIFE OF RILEY,was in BAILEYS OF BALBOA, many guest stars. His is the only guest star NOT on the island (but not a tiny part like the many astronauts and such in the show). And yes....that IS Holloway's REAL voice.

Six foot spiders do not exist.

The women are suprsingly resourceful in their attempt to "attract" the spider only it turns out to scare him/it.

    • ALLUSIONS (1)

      • Walter Pidgeon

Ginger #1: Oh, you named him after Walter Pidgeon

Obviously Bob Denver named the pigeon Walter after his school buddy Walter who is pigeontoed.
