Luke and Lorelai are not clicking. Both are trying to deal with Luke having a child and postponing the wedding. Lorelai, up at 7 a.m. which is an official sign that all is not right puts on a happy face for Luke. She pretends that everything's OK as she heads out to look for flowers with Sookie for her postponed wedding. The only way Luke can think to help her is by asking if she wants him to help cancel some of the wedding plans. It's an awkward early morning meeting from start to finish. Lorelai doesn't get a warmer reception from Sookie, who upon hearing that the wedding is postponed wonders what Lorelai did. After getting the real story, Sookie's more than helpful. However, instead of taking up Sookie's offer to help cancel things, Lorelai decides to wait a little while before making the calls.
Rory's love life seems to be getting in order: she agrees to go out to dinner with Logan, but she's at odds with Lorelai because apparently she hasn't told Emily and Richard that Christopher paid her tuition. Emily and Richard assumed there must have been an error when their check came back. Rory says she doesn't care to tell them — she'll send them an e-mail. Lorelai calls Richard and Emily to try and smooth things over, but Emily slams the phone down. Lorelai tells Richard that they are grateful for all they've done for them, but Richard is hurt. When Lorelai goes to visit Rory at Yale she tells Rory that she wants to fix her relationship with Emily and Richard. They used to be so close. Lorelai says the best time to fix it will be at the return of Friday Night Dinners. Rory agrees to go.
All the news Paris says is fit to print
Paris is an official tyrant at the paper and her management style is not working. One day the paper's even published with a blank square instead of a picture on the front page. Paris says it's because she finds the photos taken to be unsuitable, predictable and standard. Meanwhile, much of staff keeps calling in sick. Eventually, almost the whole staff quits except for a few stragglers and a guy named Bill who is just sticking around to see the paper not get published one day. It will be the first time ever an edition didn't make it to press. Paris, holed up in her dark office, believes if she sticks to her schedule she'll be able to get the paper out all by herself.
With Paris yelling "Don't distract me!" Rory decides to take over. She starts delegating tasks and calling up the former staff to try and meet the deadline. Rory also begs an hour extension from the printer. Logan arrives for their date and realizes that Rory is in full crisis mode. He wonders why she didn't call him to help out. He can type 90 words per minute and has a couple of stories ready to fill some space on the paper. Logan also helps take charge of managing the people and stalls for extra time by dropping the family name where needed. With his help, the paper manages to get out. Rory is so thankful she kisses him. Then, when she's upset that their date didn't happen, Logan produces a bag of sandwiches and some wine glasses for dinner.
Luke leaves a message for Lorelai saying that he's meeting with April at the diner from 5-8 p.m. Lorelai gets the idea that she's not invited. Hoping to quietly check things out, Lorelai goes to Taylor's Soda Shoppe (Kirk is working there, of course) to sneak a peak through the two stores' shared window. With Miss Patty and Babette nearby, it becomes a full spectacle. Soon the whole town is peering through the tiny window to watch Luke interact with April. Lucky for Lorelai, she exits before it gets out of hand. Back at home, Luke can't believe how nosy everybody in town is. He's mad at them for watching him during his "private time" with this daughter.
It's surreal, strange and uncomfortable from the start. Richard denies that they are mad, but continues to read a book after Lorelai and Rory are let into the house, meanwhile, Emily is outside painting a moonscape for the DAR art show. Lorelai pulls them all together to sort things out.
Emily's upset that suddenly Christopher is a hero, but when she tried to bring him into their lives before, he was a villain. Then in some very interesting edits, the group tackles many of the issues that have existed between them for some time. Everything comes up from the expensive pool house redesigned for Rory to Lorelai getting irritated that they didn't remember she told them months before how rude the Huntzbergers were to Rory then onto Richard and Emily fighting about the plane she wanted to buy, then some laughter about Emily telling off Shira Huntzberger, then Rory's desire to stay in the DAR despite Emily's protests onto Luke having a kid and ending with an Emily and Lorelai fight about single parent families. It's possibly the most unforgettable Friday Night Dinner ever.
