Lorelai and Rory are supporting Kirk's latest business endeavor by riding in his bicycle cab. He is having an extremely difficult time pedaling and they are moving extremely slowly. When Gypsy passes them at a stroll, Lorelai offers to walk the rest of the way. She suggests maybe Kirk should work out a little longer before tourist season. Lorelai and Rory jump out and begin walking the rest of the way to the diner. Kirk, insulted by this affront, races by them calling to them that maybe it was the 'big fat cargo' that was slowing him down. He threatens to get the last sprinkle donut. Lorelai and Rory run after him yelling at him to leave their donuts alone.
At Yale, Rory and Paris are choosing their cereal for the day. Paris is urging Rory to eat some All Bran. She explains that Asher has encouraged her to eat better. She is obviously pleased that Asher cares enough to want her to be healthy so that she will live longer. They begin to make arrangements to meet in the courtyard to set up a table. They plan to get students to sign a petition to release the Burmese political prisoners. These selfless gestures make them feel good that they are about to make a difference in the world. They sit down with Janet who is finalizing plans to go to Florida for spring break. Janet invites Paris and Rory but they decline saying that they are not the spring break kind of girls.
In Stars Hollow, Lorelai sits at the counter at the diner. Luke doesn't seem to notice her so she calls to him. To her surprise, Luke snaps at her that he'll get to her when he gets to her. She asks for some coffee and he seems displeased because she doesn't want to eat. Taking his ill temper in stride, Lorelai excitedly shows Luke the stationary for the Dragonfly. Again his response is not only less than enthusiastic but a little hostile as well. Lorelai finally asks him what is wrong. He denies that there is anything wrong but Lorelai presses him to talk to her. He finally admits in a quiet voice that he wasn't wearing his socks. Lorelai is a little confused until Luke explains that he had spent the night at Nicole's place. The socks he put on were someone else's socks. Lorelai begins to understand as the Luke's dilemma becomes more apparent.
At Yale, Rory and Paris are manning their petition table for the Burmese prisoners. They are freezing and frustrated that nobody is stopping to sign the petition. When it begins to rain, they run for cover to their room but they are soaked and frozen. They rip their wet clothes off and crawl into their beds to warm up. They decide that maybe going to a warm place for spring break might not be such a bad idea.
Later in Stars Hollow, as Rory is packing for Florida, Lorelai gives her some tips for her trip…
(Lorelai finds Rory's bathing suit and comments on how matronly it is)
Rory: Give me that, please. Hey, was I supposed to clear this with you first?
Lorelai: Clear what with me?
Rory: Going away.
Lorelai: Oh, I don't know.
Rory: I mean, I don't live here anymore, so I'm not sure what the protocol is.
Lorelai: Ah, well. I think as long as I know now, and I feel as if I have veto power, we're good.
Rory: You have veto power?
Lorelai: No. I feel as if I have veto power…very different statement.
Rory: Got it.
Lorelai: But you'll call me a lot while you're there, right?
Rory: You're not worried, are you? Because I'm just going for the sun and to read…nothing more.
Lorelai: I know, I know. It's just it's always the good kids who've never had a drink that take one sip of Kahlua and fall out of a window.
Rory: So you're sad you never taught me how to drink?
Lorelai: Exactly!
Rory: Well grab a bottle and some quarters and let's go.
Lorelai: No falling out of windows.
Rory: Not even a first floor one.
Lorelai: And don't drink. And after you're done not drinking, drink tons of water and take two aspirin before you go to bed.
Rory: Got it.
Lorelai: And take Paris with you everywhere. Not much can happen with that girl along.
When the group comes to pick her up, Lorelai makes sure that Rory rides in the front because of the airbags. Paris insists on driving and she gets them to the motel in record time. While they get settled in, Paris begins tipping worker she meets so that they get good service. Rory and Paris lay claim to their beds and then watch some partygoers as they celebrate spring break. A very cute guy walks by and gives Rory a smile.
At Jason's apartment, Lorelai gets up to find Jason making her a big breakfast. She is in a hurry so she takes her French toast to go. Before she leaves, Jason gives her a key to his apartment. Lorelai is a little confused and asks Jason if he wants her to let in a delivery. Jason appears uncomfortable but he tells her it is just for convenience…for example, if Lorelai gets to his apartment before he does, she can let herself in.
At the beach, Rory, Paris, Glenn and Janet are getting set up. Of course, Janet runs off to do some laps in the ocean and Glenn disappears to find some hotdogs. Rory and Paris settle in to do some reading. At that moment, Madeline and Louise show up. They have been celebrating spring break for a month so they give Rory and Paris some tips on how to hit all the hot clubs. They explain that the clubs card everyone but you can get around it by flirting and if all else fails you can make out. Rory asked her with whom she should make out. They both laugh and explain that they should make out with each other. They chat for a while longer until Louise and Madeline run off to have a nap before the evening celebrations begin.
Later that night, Rory and Paris begin watching Bill Moyer's "The Power of Myth". Both are excited at the prospect of an evening with Bill until they hear some partying going on out by the pool. They wonder if they are really getting a true spring break experience if they are sitting in the room eating pizza and watching TV. They decide to go out to see what is going on but as they get to the door they decide the program may be more interesting that the drunken partying going on outside.
The next day, Rory, Paris, Louise and Madeline are watching some water sports out by the pool. Rory is talking to Lorelai telling her about the battle going on in the pool. As they sign off, Lorelai reminds her to avoid windows. When she was talking to her mother, the same cute boy (Sean) walks by and gives her a smile. The other girls tease her a bit and encourage her to go over and talk to him. When Rory goes to the drink cooler, she purposely 'bumps' into Sean. She shyly asks him a question about the game being played in the pool. He smiles, gives her a flirty answer and runs off with his friends.
Later in a Club, the Shins are playing. Although Rory and Paris seem a little out of place, they are trying to get the full college experience by taking part in the spring break club scene. They are not quite sure what to do so they start to dance. Paris encourages Rory to go over and speak to Sean, the cute boy. Rory smiles at Sean in the distance and he doesn't seem to notice her. Rory laments that that was the shortest relationship ever. Rory and Paris look around and wonder why everyone else seems to be having more fun than they are. Paris doesn't believe that they are trying hard enough. To Rory's consternation, Paris kisses her. In disgust, Rory turns to leave the club. Sean approaches her and asks her if he can join her. Taken aback, Rory is a bit unsure…then Sean asks if her friend would like to come along. Rory finally understands what he is asking and stomps away in disgust.
Back in Stars Hollow, Lorelai and Jason are returning from a date. Lorelai is desperately trying to get a conversation going, but Jason's taciturn demeanor has frustrated her every effort. Finally, Lorelai begs Jason to say something. Jason eventually declares that he 'did it wrong'. He explains that the key was suppose to mean that they had reached a new level in their relationship but that his awkward presentation muddled his intent. Lorelai smiles and wishes him good night. Once in the house, Lorelai turns on her answering machine to hear Luke asking her to pick him up at the police station. Lorelai grabs her coat and runs out.
Rory, Paris, Madeline and Louise are chatting around a table by the pool. They are drinking some rather strong punch and catching up on all the news since they were at Chilton. Paris gives an update on her love life telling them that she broke up with Jamie and is dating a professor now. They ask Rory about Dean and find out that he is married. Madeline pushes his number on Rory's cell and hands it to Rory. She leaves a rather disjointed and somewhat drunken message and hangs up. Rory decides that she needs to walk off the effects of the punch and gets up to leave. Paris follows her.
In Litchfield outside Nicole's townhouse, Lorelai drives up with a very quiet Luke. She tells him that he doesn't have to tell her what happened but he opens up. He tells her that he wanted to find out who belonged to the socks…
Lorelai: And did you?
Luke: I think so. I just had a feeling tonight. Nicole was kind of vague on her plans, so I told her I'd stay at the diner. And then I drove up here, and I parked, and I waited. And then this car pulled up, and she got out with him. And, uh, they went inside, and I watched them go.
Lorelai: And you're sure he's the owner of the socks?
Luke: Well, I didn't ask him, but he's the owner of the socks. And if he isn't, the picture's still not looking very good.
Lorelai: I agree with you there.
Luke: Anyway, I sat here and watched them go inside. I had all these thoughts rolling around in my head. I mean, how could she do this, you know? In there- in our house. I mean, I... I put bookshelves up in there.
Lorelai: If it makes you feel any better, I don't think he's using your bookshelves.
Luke: I suddenly just got so mad, you know, I lost it. I had to do something, so I got out and marched up to his car, and I kicked it.
Lorelai: You kicked his car?
Luke: Oh, hey, I kicked it hard and over and over and over again.
Lorelai: Oh, you beat up his car.
Lorelai tells Luke how sorry she is that it has ended up like this.
Rory and Paris drunkenly take inventory to see if they have truly had the spring break experience. They decide that they have and that they will go home early.
Back at Yale Rory is talking to her mother on the phone filling her in on the sordid details of her week.
Rory I had a drink.
Lorelai: And?
Rory Paris and I took turns throwing up.
Lorelai: That's the way you girls will find yourselves a husband.
Rory It was fine- aspirin, tons of water, mac and cheese...
Lorelai: Ahh, my baby's discovered her first hangover food. I wish I had a picture to put next to your clay handprint.
Rory I think I still have the box.
Lorelai: Send it to me. So how was it?
Rory It was interesting, you know? We sat on the beach, went to a club, we watched "The Power of Myth," Paris and I kissed...
Lorelai: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. You watched "The Power of Myth"?
While they chat, Rory gets a call from Dean. She says good-bye quickly and answers Dean's call.
