Episode Recap

The scene begins in the Dragonfly. Sookie and Michel are making up goody baskets for the Spring Fling. Michel has prepared a schedule and is insisting that it be placed in the front of the basket but Sookie thinks it is blocking everything and it would look better placed in the back. Lorelai walks in and looks at the schedule. She asks Michel why there is bird watching on the schedule since no bird watching was scheduled. Michel explains that he put it in to fill the void that was left because no activities were planned on Saturday. Lorelai says that the Hay Bale Maze should be on the schedule. She complains about Taylor tricking the townsfolk into agreeing to have the maze.

Paris walks in on Doyle and Logan eating cereal at the table. She goes to the fridge to discover there is no 2% milk and questions Logan. Logan apologizes and tells her he will replace it. Rory enters the kitchen dressed beautifully in a suit ready for her interview at Providence Journal Bulletin. She is worried that she will go blank in her interview. Of course, Paris is of no comfort but Logan tells her she'll do fine. Paris continues to rail at Logan because he is now getting his mail forwarded to Rory and Paris's apartment. She questions Logan as to why he is staying in their humble hovel instead of his fancy apartment. Logan explains that when he quit his father's company he could no longer stay in the apartment. As Paris's parting shot to him, she tells him to do the dishes and replace the 2% milk.

April is in Stars Hollow for a visit. As Luke helps her unpack, they get caught up on their news. April has adjusted well to New Mexico and has grown up since she was last in Stars Hollow. She presents Luke with a turquoise bracelet. The Navaho tradition states that turquoise is a piece of sky that has fallen to earth and the Apache used to put little pieces of turquoise on their arrows so the aim was more true. Luke thanks her graciously but is obviously a little uncomfortable wearing it.

At the Dragonfly, Michel is being rather rude to some guests so Lorelai takes over the explanation of the Spring Fling festivities. Rory calls from the train on the way back from her interview. Lorelai hands the phone to Michel to talk to her until she is finished. He is his typical caustic self. Lorelai finishes with her guests and gets back on the phone. Rory is very excited as her interview went extremely well. She tells her that she met the editor, Kate Hessle, and they had so much to talk about that she wasn't nervous at all. Ms. Hessle told her she would call her by tomorrow to let her know if she got the job. Lorelai fills her in on the Spring Fling news and Rory asks if it's ok to bring Logan to Stars Hollow. Of course, Lorelai tells her it's okay and that she is going to get out the baby pictures and the 'What are your intentions?' cue cards.

Rory and Logan enter the house with Rory in tour guide mode. Logan says 'wow' and Rory challenges him because in his house they have works of art throughout, requiring a docent. He expresses his awe at seeing where the Rory Gilmore grew up. Logan has a bouquet of flowers, which he presents to Lorelai when she enters the room. Lorelai seems a bit uncomfortable with her guest but welcomes him graciously. Logan complements her on her beautiful house and she babbles a bit as only Lorelai can. Rory is wondering if they still get cell reception because the editor still has not called her. Both Logan and Lorelai tell her that she should relax; that the call will most certainly come. Lorelai tells them she has to get to work because Michel's metal state is a bit unpredictable. Lorelai has suggested some activities for them but Rory reminds her that she has lived in Stars Hollow before so she thinks she will be able to find something to do. They make plans to meet after work to have supper together.

Rory shows Logan where she fell of her bicycle, Patty's dance studio and then takes him into Luke's. They bump into Zach who after he greets them, begins talking about his twins, Quan and Steve. Luke comes to take their order and offers a friendly greeting. Luke tells her that April is in town and would probably enjoy seeing her when she gets back. Rory looks at her phone a couple of times to see if the editor has called. She decides it's not a big deal if she doesn't get the job because it really isn't her first choice. What she really wants is the Reston Fellowship. Although there may be truth to what she is saying, one wonders if she is trying to convince Logan or herself. Luke comes by to take their order and sees Taylor up to his antics. Logan gets to see a real piece of Stars Hollow as Luke takes Taylor to task.

Lorelai tells Sookie that she is glad all things are going well with Logan and Rory but clearly her tone is reflects a different attitude. Sookie accuses her of using a tone of repressed judgment. Lorelai explains that she doesn't mean to be judgmental but she is very worried that Logan's behaviour, historically, bodes ill for her daughter. She doesn't feel that it is her place to judge. Lorelai tells Sookie he is an over-coiffed, over-privileged young man. They get to the town meeting and bump into April. Lorelai greets April with a hug. Lorelai, Luke and April chat briefly. April leaves to get a seat and Luke and Lorelai have polite conversation until Taylor interrupts to begin the meeting. The townsfolk are complaining about all the hay and wonder where the booths are. Taylor has used the entire Spring Fling budget on hay. In disgust, they get up and leave the meeting.

Lorelai arrives home to find Rory and Logan cooking paella. Conversation between Logan and Lorelai continues to be polite but she has underlying misgivings about his suitability for her daughter. She fills them in on how Taylor is moving the gazebo with a crane to make way for the Hay Bale Maze. Rory's phone rings and she runs to take the call. Lorelai tells Logan she is sorry about his business failure but Logan dismisses it as something that just happens. Logan is spouting wild ideas that Lorelai doesn\'t really believe. Logan suggests that ideas are his commodity. Lorelai is unconvinced but silent. Rory gets the job at the Providence Journal Bulletin and they toast her success.

Walking through the maze Rory begins to talk about the job. She is beginning to have doubts that it is the right job for her. She is debating on whether or not she wants to be a big fish in a small pond or a little fish where she is going to learn a lot and have many opportunities for advancement. Lorelai tells her she has some time to make her decision since she doesn't have to commit until Monday. Rory is worried that if she takes this job she will have to give up the Reston Fellowship if she gets it and the New York Times. Logan tells her to go for her dreams and forget the 401K. Lorelai suggests that not everyone can live in that dream world. Rory goes int Westons to get the pies. Logan spouts what Lorelai considers his 'rich boy' theory and Lorelai challenges him. She explains that Rory did not grow up in that environment…that they have worked incredibly hard for everything they have. Lorelai tells him that Rory is a very thoughtful, deliberate, decision maker. Logan thinks that she should take the gamble but Lorelai says that he is the gambler not Rory. Rory comes out of Westons and their discussion stops.

Rory is up at night on computer making a pro-con list for her job at the paper. Logan goes to get water and bumps into Lorelai who has come down for some pie. Logan tries to convince Lorelai that he's not a gambler and she shouldn't be worried. She says she is a mom, that's what moms do. She tells Logan that she is worried that he is not worried enough. She worries that he doesn't take things seriously enough. Lorelai is comforted to know that Logan is aware that he made a huge mistake but he continues by saying he didn't want to flaunt his mistake because he wanted Lorelai to think well of him. Lorelai tells him that she thinks responsibility is important, that 401Ks are important, that paying your bills are important and dealing with reality is important. Logan admits that he grew up with great privilege. Lorelai tells him that that isn't how Rory was raised. She explains to him that she worked hard for everything she got. Logan tells her that he will work hard as well and that he has left the privileged life behind. They come to an understanding and have pie.

Music plays while people go through the hay maze. Taylor is directing traffic. Rory and Logan go through but Lorelai goes to talk to Sookie and Jackson. Logan tells Rory that he noticed he wasn't on her pro-con list. He asks her not to factor him into her decision. He encourages her to go where she wants to go and he will factor her into his decision. Logan tells her to make her decision based on what she wants to do. She decides to say no to the Pro-Jo.

April is helping in diner while Luke is on phone taking orders. Zach comes in. He is excited that he has mastered the maze. He collects up more deliveries and heads out.

Lorelai walks through maze looking for Rory, seeming a little lost. She bumps into Luke. She notices his bracelet and of course teases him about it and then says…

Lorelai: Luke…

Luke: Yeah?

Lorelai: I'm sorry…

Luke: Yeah, I'm uh…I'm sorry too.

Lorelai: No, no, no, let me go first.

Luke: Okay.

Lorelai: I messed up…that night I-I went to Christopher. I'm sorry.

Luke: Yeah.

Lorelai: I mean I never admitted it to you that it was wrong what I did and it was and I'm really sorry.

Luke: Okay, thanks.

Lorelai: (She sighs deeply) I don't know why I didn't say this before. (She sighs again)

Luke: aw…(He looks down and sighs) You know…I'm sorry too cuz…I don't know, it's just (he chortles)…now that I've had April it's…you know I've learned a lot…and I-I-I was crazy to think that I had to fix everything in my relationship with April before I could really be with you and… that's just not how you fix things…I mean you know, things just don't stand still they're always changing…

Lorelai: Yeah.

Luke: …I guess I was …uh compartmentalizing if that's what you call it. I mean I should've opened my compartments. I should've gotten your help.

Lorelai: I wanted to help…

Luke: I know…and I'm sorry…and I'm sorry also because I think I kinda used April to push you away.

Lorelai: You did, huh.

Luke: Yeah, I think so. I was afraid…and I'm so sorry.

Lorelai: It's really okay.

Luke: I'm glad.

Lorelai: Me to.

After a few quiet moments, Luke directs Lorelai out of the maze and continues on with his delivery
