"Here comes the son"
Original airdate: May 13, 2003
Directed by Amy Sherman-Palladino
Written by Amy Sherman-Palladino and Gavin Palone Rory freaks out about studying for finals and everything else she has to do before graduation and her trip to Europe with Lorelai. Meanwhile, Lorelai finds out that the money Richard gave her will keep Rory from getting financial aid, even though she already used the money to pay back her parents for Rory's years at Chilton. Luke stops by to tell Lorelai that Jess is gone, probably for good, but he doesn't tell her where. Lorelai decides to wait to tell Rory until some time when she is less stressed about school. Rory goes over to her grandparents' house after school to help Emily pick out something to wear to graduation, although Emily already has the help of her personal wardrobe consultant. When Lorelai drops by to pick up Rory, she and Emily have another tiff, convincing Lorelai that trying to maintain a relationship with her mother isn't worth the pain, and Rory surprises Emily by telling her that she can't understand why she's being so stupid about her differences with Lorelai. Jess ends up at his dad's place in Venice (California, not Italy), meeting his live-in love and her daughter who likes to hide in closets and read. Jimmy doesn't quite know what to do about Jess being there but Jess convinces him he has nowhere else to turn and to at least let him stick around a little while. Lorelai finally tells Rory that Jess has left town when they drive past the diner and Luke runs away from them scared. Rory agrees that Jess probably isn't coming back.
