It's official the old Rory is back: she has a to-do list a mile long and is sharing buckets of wacky banter with Lorelai. The old Lorelai is back too, but there's evidence she never left in the form of a hat box filled with odd notes. Every time she had something she would normally tell Rory, she'd write it down on a piece of paper. It doesn't matter that she can't decipher what many of them mean now, but it's the thought that counts.
At Luke's Diner, Luke is happy to see the Gilmore girls together again. He saves them the best table and makes all of Rory's favorite foods. Everything seems great, except when Rory asks if there's anything new in his life Luke says absolutely nothing. While, now would be an odd time to bring up his newly-found daughter, the cover-up begins.
Christopher's message earlier which caused a fight between Luke and Lorelai is now making Lorelai very curious. Supposedly, he has something 100% positive to tell Lorelai. As it turns out, his grandfather died after living to the grand old age of 98 and left him tons of money. He's ridiculously rich now and he wants to share it with Lorelai and Rory. Lorelai, of course, doesn't want anything. She has everything she needs, but she says she'll pass the message on to Rory.
Lorelai's surprised to hear that Rory is interested in Christopher's offer. One thing he mentioned besides a Bentley, a tract of land and a castle, was picking up the tab for Yale. If Christopher pays for Yale, Rory realizes, that she can get out from under Richard and Emily's thumb. Hearing these words come out of Rory's mouth is even a little strange for Lorelai, but she knows how tough it is to be under Emily and Richard's scrutiny. Lorelai and Rory meet with Christopher on Thanksgiving and give him the news. He wonders if this will cause a problem between her and Luke, but Lorelai assures him it won't.
Luke can't seem to bring himself to tell Lorelai about his daughter, but it's really weighing on his mind. He turns to Liz to at least talk about it to somebody. Liz tells Luke that news of his daughter won't wreck anything with Lorelai unless he lets it. Luke decides not to worry about, his daughter's lived this long without him and her mother's never contacted him over these 12 years — they must not need him. Luke has second thoughts on Thanksgiving and secretly calls up their house. He gets the answering machine. In contrast to Luke's secret-keeping, Lorelai is very up front with him about her meeting with Christopher and how he's going to pay for Rory's education over the next two years.
Lane's band is going to play a "showcase" for two record label executives. This is their big chance and Zach has written a bunch of great songs for them to play. One problem, the songs are all girls' names, none of which are "Lane." This bothers Lane a bit, but Zach says it's no big deal, he gets inspiration from real people he knows. Speaking of inspiration, Brian gets inspired to write a song called "Lane." It's well-received by Sophie the music store owner and by Gil, but Zach's annoyed. His annoyance with Brian and Lane continues from that moment and he becomes hostile with everybody.
At the gig, he introduces a new band member to play tambourine. Gil points out that the only reason to bring a tambourine player is if it's a hot chick. The new member is neither female, nor hot. Then he changes up the set list which they had rehearsed and throws a fit on stage in front of the crowd about his broken wireless microphone. Gil tackles him out of frustration, the crowd boos them and the night is a total disaster. Lane is so upset and tells Zach he let everybody down. All he can say is that now he knows why people in bands shouldn't date.
Meanwhile, Rory gets an unexpected call from Logan's sister, Honor. She wishes Rory was at the Huntzberger Thanksgiving and is mad at Logan for breaking up with her. Rory had no idea they were broken up, she thought they were just taking a little break....
