Daddy Warbucks And The Little Band That Couldn't

So, we really have to wait until January until the shoe resumes?. Is it just me or do these hiatuses get longer every year?. I know it's the same every year, but it always seems longer each season. Well, the show has been on a roll with the last few episodes, and while this one wasn't quite as good as the last two, it was still a good one. With Lorelai and Rory reunited, all is right with the world. From the moment that they got back together, the show was instantly invigorated with the Gilmore spirit. Sure, it was still pretty good before the reunion, but it's just better when the two gals are the way they were, and the way we want them. But when things are back on track, you know there will be something else right behind it to throw a monkey wrench into the proceedings. As if Luke's previously unknown daughter Rachel wasn't enough, the writers decided there needed to be more and throw old standby Christopher back into the game. But this time, it's a bit different. I will go into further detail when we get to it. So far, Season six has had some problems, but it's been on it's game these last 3 or 4 episodes, and I am hoping it will continue into the rest of the season. So, what happened this week in Stars Hollow?...
Rory is home and things couldn't be better. It's amazing that it comes off as if nothing happened(not intentionally, mind you) or that time hasn't skipped a beat. It's just the way it should be. Lorelai is so happy that Rory is back. We get a nicer look at Lorelai's re-done bedroom and bathroom. Quite nice, I must say. Rory has a lot of catching up to do, doesn't she?. Her home has been given a face lift, and there is a new resident. Paul Anka. I love this dog. Rory thinks Lorelai is making him up since he doesn't seem to come out, but she eventually spots him, and when she does, it's like someone spotting Bigfoot in the forest. Say what you will, but the dog is cute, and most of the humor about the dog is quite funny. Anywho, Lorelai wastes no time in parading Rory around town to show everyone that she has returned. She pops into Luke's and it's a nice reunion. It is nice to see some warmth(and obviously love)between Luke and Rory. It's still kinda funny when you realize that they will be father and daughter. Lorelai takes Rory to see Sookie, who is happy beyond belief, and so is(believe it or not)Michel. Well, as happy as Michel will get. Yep. Things are looking good. So, what's gonna happen to ruin things?. Well, Christopher rears his head, but it's not in the way you would think. Onto the ex...
In the episode before this one Christopher called Lorelai and left a message saying that he has some good news for her. This caused a fight between her and Luke. Now, Lorelai gets into contact with Chris to find out his news. They meet in a cafe where Christopher lays it on her. He is rich. He is filthy stinking rich. He inherited a ton of money and he wants to take care of her and Rory. Lorelai tells him that she is fine and doesn't need(nor wants)anything, but that maybe Rory would. Christopher is game for anything. Lorelai approaches Rory with this latest bit of news and it seems that the younger Gilmore does have something she wants from dear old dad. She says he could pay for Yale. They had an agreement with Richard and Emily, but after what has happened with the Elder Gilmore's(most notably Emily), Rory doesn't want to have that kind of connection with them, or that kind of favor hanging over her head. The two tell Christopher this and he is more than happy to pay for the rest of Rory's schooling at Yale. Afterwards, Lorelai tells Luke about all this and he accepts it and it doesn't seem to bother him.
My thoughts?. It's nice that the Christopher part wasn't another 'take me back' or 'plot device to ruin things' for Lorelai and Luke. Or is it?. I don't think so. I think he is pretty much off of the 'get Lorelai back' campaign. I do hope that Rory doesn't keep this ill will feeling toward her grandparents long. We don't want Rory to have a thing with Emily like Lorelai. They did help her a lot and only tried to help as best they could and do what they thought was right. I hope granddaughter and grandparents talk and patch things up. And then there is Luke. Is he really okay with Christopher's news?. Why wouldn't he be?. Or does he realize that he has no place to talk after his surprise daughter?. Luke is still thinking heavily about his newfound child and wether or not to tell Lorelai. He has a talk with his sister and he comes to the conclusion that no one needs to know. This young girl seems to not really want anything from him or even keeps in contact with him. Why say anything to Lorelai when it appears that this girl won't be around?. But it's obvious that Luke is interested in this girl, and probably does want some kind of connection. During Thanksgiving dinner at the Dragonfly, he tries to call her, but to no avail. What will become of this?. It's anybody's guess really, and it's pretty interesting.
Rory gets some surprising news when she hears that Logan has spoken of her as an "ex-girlfriend". Not surprisingly, this is a shock to her and puts a damper on the Thanksgiving festivities. Is it really the end for the two?. No one knows. In fact, this episode leaves us with a couple of questions with as of yet no answers to them.
I have to say that it was really nice to finally see Lane get a bigger storyline of her own. I love Lane, and when she has a story of her own, I am a happy camper. But Lane and the rest of the band sure aren't in this episode. The band is rehearsing and they have a lot of songs with girls' names in them, but not one for Lane. Zack says that nothing new or good rhymes with 'Lane'. Brian disagrees. In fact, he disagrees so much that he writes a song called "Lane". Lane is obviously happy with this result, but Zack sure isn't. When the band gets ready for a big performance where a representative from a label will be at, everything goes to you know where in a handbasket. Zack shows up late, brings in a new player to play the tambourine(!), and has an attitude towards Brian. He starts flipping out and barking out orders and basically ruins the whole thing. Things get so bad that a fight breaks out on stage between Zack and Gil. Lane approaches Zack and he basically says that this is why band members shouldn't date. Zack was obviously jealous because Brian wrote a song called "Lane" and that she was so thrilled by it. It is no excuse for Zack's behavior and the things he said and did. That was pathetic. He ruined the band's big chance for nothing. Is the band done for good?. Yet another question to ponder over the long winter break.
In the end, this was another solid and entertaining hour. Emily and Richard are missing in this ep, and that's a disappointment, but everything else was really good. The writing was sharp as always, and it was just another worthy entry in Gilmore Land. Rory and Logan done?. Christopher out of the picture?. Lane and Zack?. The band?. Luke and his daughter?. Lots to think about.
