Episode Recap

Paris comes in from a shower and is uncharacteristically cheerful as she moves around the room. She is singing "I'm Walking on Sunshine". Rory exits her room to see this peculiar sight. Paris declares her happiness. She is overjoyed that Doyle has finally committed to their relationship. Although Rory isn't dancing around and singing, she is also in good spirits because of her newly defined relationship with Logan. Rory answers a knock at the door to find Logan picking her up for their date. He kisses her but preferring not to share their moment with Paris, they go into Rory's room. Rory has been doing some research on Logan's dad, Mitchum Huntzberger, in preparation for her internship at the Stamford Eagle Gazette. She begs Logan for some insight into his dad to help her with her internship but all he can offer is the fact that his father hates peas.

Rory is packing up her books after class when Lorelai calls wanting to know if she had taken back the blue sweater. She has changed her mind and has decided she wants it now. Rory is exasperated with her mother and is concerned the stores are suspecting that she is a cheat. Rory tells her mother about the internship with Mitchum. Although Lorelai is obviously very concerned about her involvement with the Huntzberger family, she attempts to hide her feelings from Rory and congratulates her. As they say good-bye, Lorelai confirms the re-purchase of the blue sweater.

At the Twickham house, Luke enters the diorama room to find Taylor trapped under the fallen horse. Taylor complains that it took Luke two hours to come help him out of his predicament. Luke points out that it's time to sell the house to him. He gets Taylor to admit that the museum is a failure and Taylor finally agrees to sell the house to Luke.

At Friday night dinner, Rory tells Emily and Richard about her internship with Mitchum Huntzberger. They are delighted that she is making such impressive contacts in the industry. In the course of their discussion, Emily and Richard are disturbed to hear that Rory had dinner at the Huntzberger's home and they haven't had the chance to reciprocate the hospitality. They insist that she call Logan immediately to extend the invitation. They rush to get their date books to co-ordinate a time and date. Rory calls Logan to warn him of what is to come and he agrees to go to dinner with her grandparents.

At Luke's diner, Lorelai is waiting for Rory to arrive. She asks Luke to save some lemon pie for Rory. She notices some mannequins being carried by the diner and to her disappointment, finds out that the museum is closing. Rory comes in with Lorelai's blue sweater. Lorelai doesn't seem to like the sweater anymore and Rory is frustrated with her mother's indecision. She tells Lorelai about Emily and Richard's reaction to her dinner at the Huntzberger's and tries to find out when the dinner for Logan is planned. Later that night, Rory is sleeping when Lorelai bursts into her room, wakes her and tells her she wants to go to dinner with her and Logan. Lorelai tries to get Rory to talk to Emily about it but Rory refuses. She tells Lorelai that if she wants to go to dinner she has to call her mother herself.

At the Stamford Gazette Rory gets her first picture I.D. and is thrilled. Harry shows her around the newsroom and takes her to the coffee room. She is so excited, she uses her cell phone to take a picture of herself next to the coffee pot. Mitchum Huntzberger arrives. He is surrounded by a group of people giving him a tour of the paper. Harry is surprised that Rory knows Mitchum and even more surprised when he addresses her directly. For the morning, Rory attempts unsuccessfully to keep up with Huntzberger and finally calls Logan in exasperation to beg for some tips on how to talk with his father. He has very little to offer but Rory gets a few ideas.

At the Dragonfly, Lorelai is trying to get up the nerve to call her mother about Friday night dinner. When she finally calls, Emily is cold and uncompromising. She suggests if Lorelai decides to come to Friday night dinner when Logan comes to dinner, she will be expected every Friday for the foreseeable future.

Luke and Lorelai are in his apartment where he serves her some soft-shelled crab amandine and wild rice. During their meal, Richard phones Lorelai to tell her about a call he got from Mike Armstrong from the Durham group. Armstrong had seen the article in the American Travel magazine about the Dragonfly and wanted to meet with Lorelai to discuss the possibility of her joining their group. Of course, Luke is opposed to the meeting. He seems upset to see a big corporation trying to take over her Inn. Lorelai tells him she doesn't want to sell the Inn and that she is just flattered that they are calling. After thinking about it for a moment, Luke changes his mind and suggests Lorelai meet with him because it is a good networking opportunity.

Emily is taking Beatrice, her maid, to task for setting the table with fragrant lilies. She insists that Beatrice replace them with the less fragrant peonies, which will not interfere with their guest's enjoyment of the meal. Richard enters and comments on how beautiful everything looks. They begin to talk about Huntzberger's property on Martha's Vineyard where they have parties and weddings. Now that Rory and Logan seem to be so close, they decide that perhaps it's time for them to purchase an acreage on Cape Code to accommodate their extended family. They delight in the thought of grandchildren with Rory's beautiful blue eyes and Logan's blond hair. The doorbell rings. Emily answers to find Lorelai standing there demurely. Emily's greeting is cold and rude; she walks away to finish getting ready for their special guests. Richard, seemingly oblivious to the tensions between Lorelai and Emily, comes in and greets Lorelai jovially. They move to the living room where Richard questions her about her call to Mike Armstrong. Before they can finish their discussion, Emily calls him to come from the other room to help, leaving Lorelai alone. Shortly after, Rory and Logan arrive. Emily and Richard answer the door and begin gushing over their special guests. Logan, ever the charmer, offers his host and hostess gifts which prompts effusive thank yous from Emily and Richard. As they move into the living room, they rhapsodize over the jacket and lapels of the jacket Logan is wearing. Emily continues to be dismissive and rude to Lorelai. Emily and Richard leave to see to dinner preparations as their guests move into the dining room. Logan engages in some 'Life and Death Brigade' business by exchanging Emily's antique sewing box with a lighter he took from another person's house. Lorelai is displeased with what she sees but she stays silent. When Emily comes back into the room, she notices the missing antique box. She calls Beatrice into the room and reproaches her as for the missing box. Lorelai looks pointedly at Logan as Emily rails at the maid…

Lorelai: Mom, I found it.
Emily: (She does not hear Lorelai) However, we have company and I don't want to be rude.
(Lorelai looks at him with disdain and holds her hand out silently requesting the box until he hands it to her.)
Emily: Let's just leave it for later and then you and I will have a very serious discussion.
Lorelai: (A little louder.) Mom, I found it!
Emily: What?
Lorelai: Yeah, here it is.
Emily: Really? Where was it?
Lorelai: Behind the centerpiece. I guess the flowers kind of hid it.

Emily apologizes to her guests for the disruption. Lorelai, Rory and Logan exchange looks. Lorelai looks disgusted, Rory looks embarrassed and Logan looks slightly subdued. Emily and Richard continue their obsequious dialogue until Logan and Rory leave. Lorelai is appalled at the mating ritual through which they have just put Rory and Logan. She attempts to talk to them about it.

Lorelai: They're just kids, and they're still figuring things out, and they don't need you two dropping all these heavy-handed hints about weddings and babies and Cape Cod.
Emily: You should be thrilled by this match, Lorelai.
Lorelai: Well, who says I'm not thrilled?
Richard: Well, you're not acting very thrilled.
Lorelai: I'm annoyed at you. That's why. Putting all this pressure on them? They are in their early twenties, for God's sake.

Emily and Richard refuse to discuss the issue further and leave Lorelai sitting alone at the table.

The next day at the Stamford Gazette, Rory seems to have hit her stride. She provides Mitchum with a cup of decaf, which he seems to appreciate, and is invited into their meeting.

At Sookie's house, Sookie and Lorelai are eating some food prepared by Manny. Sookie is training him so that he will be good enough to take her place during her pregnancy leave. They discuss the pros and cons of joining Mike Armstrong and the Durham group. Having them invest is the Dragonfly seems to be somewhat appealing to them. They like the idea of having money again. As consultants would be traveling with expense accounts, this is also excites them. Sookie pauses for a moment and then she tells Lorelai that she has Jackson, Davey and the new baby coming…that her life is in Stars Hollow and she couldn't go. Lorelai looks a little thoughtful, perhaps wondering where her life will be once Rory is gone.
