Lorelai, Luke and the rest of Stars Hollow are awakened by the ringing of bells at 3:12 a.m. It's an emergency Town Meeting. Surprisingly (or not) there is very good attendance at the meeting. It looks like everybody but Taylor is there. Actually, he is there broadcasting from a remote location. He's worried because the Stars Hollow Winter Carnival is this weekend, but he's snowed in at his sister's place in Maine. Miss Patty appoints Kirk to take over.
The next day following the early morning wake-up call, Luke is even more tired and grumpy than usual, meanwhile Lorelai is off to a great start. She even volunteers to host a booth at the carnival: The Amazing Doggy Swami featuring Paul Anka. When she asks Luke if he has any special plans for the day, he shrugs it off. However, he does have plans that day. He's going to meet up with April for his first official visit to get to know her better.
Logan is on a mission to get Rory back and showers her with numerous flower, candy, fruit and other gift deliveries. He even hires a coffee cart to follow her around all day! She refuses to speak to him. As a last-ditch effort, Logan heads over to the Dragonfly to get Lorelai's advice. Lorelai runs down the laundry list of things Rory has done since getting involved with Logan and doesn't seem too thrilled to help him. Finally, he wears her down by saying that they both have a shared enemy in his father. Lorelai writes a letter to Rory for Logan to deliver. He takes the letter and a box of doughnuts. After reading the letter, Rory agrees to have dinner with him.
Paris is full speed ahead on her power trip. She snaps at all the reporters and institutes a new board and magnet system so she will know at all times where her employees are. Even bathroom breaks are tracked. All of the senior staff members set-up an impromptu meeting to discuss what they can do. Since she's considered Paris' best friend, Rory's not invited. She just happens upon the meeting. Later at the paper, Rory notices Paris' latest management idea: numbered hats. Paris found it hard to remember all the reporters' names - especially when there were duplicate names. Now she refers to the staff by number. Rory tries to give Paris some friendly advice about the unhappy staff but Paris turns it around. She says the reporters can "suck it up" or leave. Rory, meanwhile, looks like a snitch to the rest of the staff.
Luke has a nice albeit cold meeting with April at a park. He suggests they meet up more regularly and she accepts his offer. She's not too interested in his suggestions of bowling, the zoo or a movie. She'd rather visit him at the diner. He tries to change her mind, but she says diners fascinate her, so he agrees. Later on, he rethinks everything and tries to change the plan with Anna. Luke starts rolling out the lame excuses as to why April shouldn't come to the diner, but doesn't reveal the real reason he doesn't want her to be there. Anna gets fed up and tells Luke that he can't make plans with her kid and then cancel them. He's going to be either all in or all out. After hearing that, Luke back pedals and says it would be fine to have April at the diner.
Luke makes an attempt to talk to Lorelai about the April situation, but she says she can't. She's busy with a group of people from the New England Maple Syrup Commission. She won't even have time to come to the diner that day. Luke's a little relieved to hear that because it postpones having to tell her about April for at least a little while.
His luck runs out however, when Lorelai leaves the Dragonfly early and meets April at the diner. It's obvious to Lorelai she's related to somebody at the diner because when she meets her, April's refilling the salt and pepper shakers. She's stunned to hear it's Luke who's her father! Luke comes out from behind the counter and sees Lorelai chatting with April. Immediately he apologizes for not telling her sooner. Lorelai tells Luke she has to go away "to digest" the news he's kept from her for 2 months! Rory helps calm some of Lorelai's fears about the future of the relationship, but it's Luke who puts the brakes on everything. After Luke starts apologizing again at the Winter Carnival, Lorelai mentions that maybe they should postpone the wedding. Luke jumps at the option even though Lorelai is visibly upset.
Zach is feeling low. He's lost his girlfriend, his best friend and his band broke-up. He starts getting suspicious when he sees Mrs. Kim and Lane talking with a handsome, young, Asian man. Zach gets a little belligerent with the guy at the Winter Carnival and then battles with Mrs. Kim. That is until Mrs. Kim lets Zach know that the man is her brother and Lane's uncle.
