  • Mother/Daughter arguments. Really good episode.

    9.5
Really liked this episode. Rory finally cracks under the pressure of the Dean situation, along with other things. I liked this storyline, it was interesting to watch. It was weird to see them both getting along well as always at the start, with another Luke and Lorelai hint in the 1 2 3 game. But then suddenly things change.

Max and Lorelai, we don't see much of them but there an okay couple. I can understand why max would dislike that Lorelai hasn't told anyone about them, but I was glad that another argument wasn't formed. The end was quite funny, Lorelai saying she'd ring everyone in her phone book and she actually started to.

The notes thing with Lane and Rory was funny, how she avoided Dean. but then Dean turns out to be Lanes science partner. I think Mrs Kim shouting at Dean was one of the funniest moments of the series, hilarious. I can understand why Lane wouldn't tell Rory but also get why Rory would be annoyed. Sadly for Lane, Rory walks in on them working on the science project.

Though it was entertaining, it was strange to see Lane and Rory fight, both scenes very well done, Rory storming out, Lane giving her coffee. Then the whole Rory distracted in class scene, enjoyable. Liked her comments at both Max and Paris. The fight she then had with Lorelai was very engrossing, some harsh comments here and there, very well done.

Lorelai's worry when she found Rory was missing was great, really added to the episode. Emily's delight that Rory had turned up was in character, she even seemed happy that Rory had, had a fight with Lorelai. Seeing her be nice to Rory, giving her all she needs was interesting.

Finally, Lorelai confronts Dean and finds out the truth about Rory's break up. Liked Lorelai talking to Rory at the end about saying 'I love you' Plus, Lane and Rory made up! Next, the 1st season finale!moreless
  • Despair...

    9.0
Lorelai finds out why Dean and Rory broke up. She feels bad because she fears that Rory is afraid of commitment. Lane is Dean's science partner, but she is afraid to tell Rory. Lorelai helps Luke pick out a present for Rachel. She goes crazy and buys things for Luke as well. Rory goes to Emily and Richard's house after a fight with Lorelai. Lorelai fears that Rory has gone missing, but finds her eventually. She hasn't told Rory that she and Max are talking and might start dating again.

This episode was pretty good! I felt a little bad for Dean because everyone blames him. This episode was funny, there was so much fast-paced conversations. I give this episode a 9.0 out of 10!moreless
  • Revealing...

    9.7
Well lets find it all out.

    Lorelai is back with Max.

the truth about Dean breaking up with Rory comes up.

Rory and Lorelai fight and Rory runs to her grandparents house...

Lorelai freaks out, she is so worried

I just liked the scene between Lorelai and Luke, she walks in with a ton of bags and only 2 are Rachel's presents.

The others are clothes for Luke, more formal clothes and then Rachel walks in and Lorelai is dressing Luke, funny.

I guess that is important that the real reason for the break up finally is know. The "I love you" and the all that... It's best that they can talk about it, that's the type of relationship the girls have...

And looks like Lorelai is really calling everyone to tell about Max..moreless
  • rory is upset about her brakup with dean.

i felt really bad for both rory and lorelai in this episode. i thought that rory seemed to be in a real bad mood through out the episode and i was really disappointed in her went she went to her grandmothers house after a fight she had with her mother. i felt really bad for lorelai to goto her house and find out that her child is not home then to get a call from her mother saying she is there and not letting her talk to her i think that is when i go there with the cops to get her back. i though that it was funny when lorelai was yelling at dean and found out that he told rory he loved hermoreless
  • Lorelai and rory have a fight and rory takes off to harvard, much to emilys delight.

I loved this episode so much. its probably one of my favorites, for some reason. i have it taped and i watch it all the time. i think it shows how much emily really does try to \"win\" rory over. But also how lorelai and rory will always be much closer.

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (9)

    • When Lorelai is proposing different things they can do to cheer Rory up, she suggests they get Indian food. But in "There's the Rub", Rory is excited to have an evening to herself where she can order Indian food, which she doesn't get to do too often because Lorelei cannot stand the smell.

Possible Explanation: Because Lorelai is trying to cheer up Rory, it makes sense that she would want to do something that Rory really likes, like eat Indian Food, even if she, Lorelai, doesn't like it.

    • In the beginning of the episode, Lane stops at the market on Wednesday. Dean was not there. The next day, Thursday, Rory stops at the market clearly stating it was not Wednesday. She runs away the same day (Thursday). Rory sleeps over Emily and Richard's house. The next day must be Friday, the day of the usual dinner. But, when Lorelai comes to pick Rory up, she states that she would see them tomorrow for dinner. The writers made a mistake with the days of the week.

    • If Sookie didn't know about Lorelai and Max being together again then wouldn't she have thought it was weird that he was there helping to look for Rory?

    • In this episode, Rory tells Max that she will miss her bus if she doesn't go, meaning that it was her last class of the day. In both "The Deer Hunters" and "Paris is Burning" she has him first period.

Possible Explanation: if American school systems are anything like those here in Canada, the school year runs on a cycle, and not every day has the same classes at the same times.

    • When Lorelai is on the phone with Lane's mother trying to find Rory, you can see Sookie outside the front door as she waits for her cue to come in.

    • In this episode Emily says that Chilton is only 10 minutes from their home. However in the pilot episode, Emily says that Chilton is 5 minutes from their home.

    • In the scene where Lorelai comes back from buying Luke all the clothes and she is showing him the blazer, in the background you can see a guy with a green and purple striped shirt come out from the back. The shot goes to Luke and then back to Lorelai and the guy comes out again from the back.

    • When Rory and Emily are sitting on the couch talking when Rory first arrives there, the boom mic is visible numerous times above them.

    • In Mr. Medina's class, Paris pushes a book to the floor to get Rory's attention. When the shot cuts back to Paris, the book is back on her desk. When the bell rings, the book is back on the floor.

  • QUOTES (23)

    • Lorelai: Okay, you've been in this mood for a week now, and while I love the unexpected ups and downs of motherhood, I've gotta say I miss my Goofus, and I want my Gallant back.
Rory: You can't just say a normal sentence right? Just 'Hey, lets talk' is too dull for you. (Lorelai grabs Rory)
      Lorelai: Hey. Let's talk.

    • Rachel: Hi there.
Lorelai: Oh, hi. This isn't what it looks like.
Rachel: It looks like you're dressing him (Luke)
Lorelai: Oh... then it is what it looks like!

    • Emily: (To Rory) Everything will be fine... Richard, say something encouraging.
Richard: Uh... Rory, I'm sorry you're upset, but I applaud your timing.

    • Rory: Why didn't you tell me you'd been talking?
Lorelai: Because it was too much like the whole Todd and Nevina Cutler thing.
      Rory: The what?
Lorelai: When I was in junior high, I had a boyfriend, Todd something or other. Not a soul mate, but I was crazy about him and he dumped me. I was completely crushed and I could do nothing except lie around and cry and listen to Air Supply, very low point in my life. Two days after the breakup my best friend Nevina Cutler got back together with her boyfriend, Randy something or other, who had dumped her days before Todd dumped me. And she was so happy and gloaty and couldn't stop talking about how great it was that she had her boyfriend back that it made me feel horrible.
      Rory: The end. Lets go.
Lorelai: Look, I didn't want to be Nevina Cutler, okay? You were so miserable about Dean. What was I supposed to do? Walk in and say, 'Sorry about you and Dean but I got Max back and aren't we happy.' Would that have been good?
      Rory: That would've been great.

    • Dean: So... that's your mom?
      Lane: That's my mom.
      Dean: Has she seen Patton?
Lane: She's just very uptight about boys.
Dean: I sensed something like that.
      Lane: Don't take it personally.
Dean: I know, I'm sure once she gets to know me she'll...
Lane: No, she'll hate you forever. It's just nothing personal.

    • (Luke is trying on clothes Lorelai bought him)
Luke: I hate you, very much!
Lorelai: Aww, save the sweet talk for Rachel.

    • Lorelai: (about Dean) I warned him. I warned him when I first met him, if he hurt her...Ah. Maybe I could key his car.
Luke: Better yet. Key Taylor's car and tell him Dean did it.

    • Lorelai: (Talking about what she has just found in Luke's shopping bag) Pot holders. Little kitty pot holders. (Pulls the tail) They meow.
      Luke: It's a present.
      Lorelai: For someone you hate?

    • Dean: (Dean enters Kim's Antiques) Hello? Lane are you here?
Mrs. Kim: (Mrs. Kim pops out from behind a piece of furniture) Who are you? Why you call Lane? How you know her? You date her?
      Dean: No.
      Mrs. Kim: You try to?
      Dean: No!
Mrs. Kim: Then why you here? Empty your pockets!
Dean: OK. I'm gonna go now.
      Lane: Dean! Wait! Wait!
      Mrs. Kim: Who's Dean?
      Dean: I'm Dean.
Mrs. Kim: How you know Dean?
Lane: We go to school together.
      Mrs. Kim: You do?
      Dean: Yeah, we're science partners.
Mrs. Kim: (to Dean) You! Don't talk! (to Lane) Science partners?
Lane: Yes Mamma. I've invited him over to work.
      Mrs. Kim: Work?
      Lane: On our science project.
      Mrs. Kim:(suspiciously) Reproduction?
      Lane: Spores, molds and fungus.
      Mrs. Kim: Science project?
      Lane: Yes.
Mrs. Kim: For school? You're not dating?
      Lane: No Mamma.
      Mrs. Kim: Ok. Follow me.
(she leads them to the kitchen)
Mrs. Kim: (to Dean) You! Sit here! (to Lane) You! Sit here! I'm going there. When I come back these chairs will be in the same place. No moving! You understand? (she walks away but turns back to Lane and Dean) I see all!

    • Paris: Just making an observation.
Rory: Great. We'll build a dome over you and jam a telescope in your head.

    • Rory: Okay, guy number 3 is crossing the street right now.
      Luke: Why am I looking?
Lorelai: Because it's like a train wreck.
      Lorelai Aww, no!
      Rory: Daddy!
      Lorelai: Not Kirk!
Rory: Maybe he'll buy me a pony.
Lorelai: I wanna go back to the old guy.
(Kirk walks in the diner and Luke walks over to him)
      Luke: Congratulations man.
      Kirk: Uh, thank you.
      (Lorelai and Rory start giggling)
      Kirk: What?
      Lorelai: Nothing
Kirk: Okay, did somebody put the kick me sign on my back again? It wasn't funny last week and it's not funny now! I have asthma.(He leaves the diner)
      Rory: Mom, quick he's leaving!
Lorelai: Oh no, Kirk come back, I lo-o-o-ove you! Drat. All right, your turn.
Rory: I don't know Mom. You already got Kirk, how's a girl to top that.

    • Rory: I just got scared and I sat there.
Lorelai: I understand. You know, I'm still learning this stuff too and since I'm still learning, I think I haven't thought enough about what I'm supposed to be teaching you.
Rory: What are you talking about?
Lorelai: I'm talking about my own personal lack of commitment skills. I mean, look, I love that you have my eyes and my coffee addiction and my taste in music and movies, but when it comes to love and relationships, I don't necessarily want you to be like me. I would hate to think that I raised a kid who couldn't say I love you.

    • Emily: She got home from school but she just went right upstairs. Now she didn't want a snack but I had Rosa make her one anyway. I haven't checked to see if she's eaten it. She had a decent breakfast this morning but she did seem a little tired and when I went into her bathroom the aspirin bottle was out so I assume she had a headache. Now I don't know if it was last night or...
Lorelai: Excuse me, Mr. Cosell. I appreciate the play by play but I just want to talk to my daughter now.
Emily: Do you want me to go in there with you?
      Lorelai: More than anything.
Emily: Well try and be nice.
      Lorelai: Thanks for the tip.

    • Lorelai: Got a minute?
      Dean: Actually I'm, uh..
Lorelai: I just want to tell you that I think you are scum.
      Dean: Gee thanks.
Lorelai: You are gonna be hard pressed to find another girl as fantastic as Rory, you know that? She is beautiful and she is smart and she did not deserve to be treated that way by you.
      Dean: Treated what way?
Lorelai: I thought you were a good guy. I thought you were going to make her happy. I'm such an idiot that I actually thought you were a good pick. But I was wrong and I hate to be wrong.
Dean: You know I am sick and tired of everyone blaming this thing on me. I mean you and the whole stupid town looking at me like I'm a criminal. I say "I love you" and she just sits there and I'm the jerk? I'm the bad guy?
      Lorelai: What?
Dean: You know what? Fine, think what you want, I don't care. Just leave me alone.

    • Lorelai: (trying to persuade Luke to try on a jacket) C'mon, just the jacket. Just once be too sexy for your shirt and do a little dance on the catwalk.
(Luke walks into the back of the diner while Lorelai chases him with the suit)
Luke: Get away from me you mental patient!

    • Rory: (to Lorelai) Don't take this the wrong way, but get out.

    • Lorelai: Hey, I have a huge dilemma that I need your opinion on!
      Rory: (annoyed) What?
Lorelai: Am I more beautiful today than I was yesterday?
      Rory: Oh boy.
Lorelai: I'm just not sure. I mean at first I looked in the mirror and I thought, well yes, definitely, huge improvement.
Rory: Can I have my pillow back?
Lorelai: But then I thought maybe it's not that I'm more beautiful today. Maybe I was just as beautiful yesterday, only I lacked the self-esteem to recognize it.

    • Rory: Where's my tie?
      Lorelai: In your drawer?
Rory: I'm looking in the drawer.
Lorelai: Mm, check the living room.
Rory: Why would my tie be in the living room?
Lorelai: Because it's been seeing the doily on the coffee table. I'm sorry, I did not want you to find out this way!

    • Lorelai: (sarcastically) Why so charming this morning?
Rory: I had an annoying visit from the Stars Hollow wake up fairy.

    • Rory: So, Grandpa, what's new in the world today?
Richard: Well, as usual, it's going to hell in a handbasket.
Rory: It's nice to always have something you can count on.

    • Lorelai: (on the phone with Mrs. Kim) The one time I need you to be crazy prison guard lady you're all 'hey man, whatever'.

    • Lorelai: So, last time I saw you, you were headed home. You want to fill in the blanks?
Rory: I don't know. I just snapped and I got sick of everything. I wanted to go anywhere.
      Lorelai: So you picked hell?

    • Lorelai: (about the pants she's bought for Luke) I don't know what this fabric is, but I think I want to have its baby.
