Rory wears her Chilton uniform to Finn's party
Luke breaks his own "No Cell Phones" rule.
The dress Lorelai is wearing when she tells Michel to sell the trailer home is the same dress she wore in "A Messenger, Nothing More" in the scene where Sookie tells Lorelai she's gone nutty.
Emily goes back on her promise to Luke that she would stay out of his relationship with Lorelai. (It only took one episode for her to go back on her word, a record even for Emily).
Kirk is drinking milk and cookies when he talks to Luke about moving out of his mother's house.
For their first date after the breakup Luke takes Lorelai to Silvano's. This is the place she wanted to take him to ask him about the loan in The Incredible Shrinking Lorelais (season 4).
After Rory leaves and Emily is upset, she puts ice in a glass to make a drink. But she sticks her hand in the ice bucket, grabs a handful of ice and tosses it in the glass. This seems a little improper for her.
Lorelai mentions playing the "mom card" in this episode. This was first referenced in the pilot episode when Lorelai forces Rory to go to Chilton.
When Luke is getting plastic spoons for ice cream, as he is about to sit down the top of the tub of ice cream is still on however when the shot changes angle a second later the top has disappeared.
When Lorelai brings in the Weston's cup and Luke asks her if she wants coffee, he looks right at the cup before he grabs the coffee pot, then looks at it again like he didn't see it yet.
In the opening scene when, Kirk is collecting ribbons, a couple walks in. The man has a blue ribbon, but the woman has a white ribbon. Where did she get the white ribbon when the colors were blue and pink?
When Rory and Robert are talking at a table Logan is staring at them from across the room but they're in front of them. A minute later Logan comes up from behind him when he was in front before.
When Lorelai is at the Dragonfly (just after Michel returned from California) she says that she is just going to run over to Luke's and that she will be back to finish the setup. You can clearly see that it is light out. However, when she arrives at Luke's, it's dark outside.
In the first scene when Luke is talking to Kirk about the ribbon collection, there is a wide-brimmed straw hat and a bag (with a red hat on it) on the hat stand. However, when Lorelai enters and sits down, there is no straw hat and no bag there, but rather a brown grandpa's hat.
On the first scene you can see the box with the ribbons which is almost full. When you see the scene with Kirk and Luke in the diner, the box isn't as full anymore - the blue ribbon bin is almost empty.
When Luke gets the spoons from the drawer for the ice cream, he leaves the drawer open. A few moments later, the drawer is closed. Who closed it?
When Lorelai is eating the fries, a portion of the fries on the plate is gone, next the plate is full again, then its not.
Luke: We got back together because "we" wanted to get back together.
(Luke is being attacked by Emily at the diner and speed dials Lorelai for help.) Lorelai: Mom!!! Emily: Lorelai! Lorelai: Please hear me. If I want your input in my life in any way, shape or form I will ask for it. Until then, do us all a favor and SHUT UP!!! (Emily leaves the diner)
Lorelai: Want me to put in on vibrate for you?
Luke: What are you doing? Lorelai: I'm putting my number on speed dial so all you have to do is hit 1 'cus I'm number one! And then (Her phone starts to ring) I wonder who that could be..Hello? Luke: Give me...No cell phones in the diner! Lorelai: See? Wasn't that fun? Luke: Totally
Lorelai: Reggae Fever? Luke: So? Lorelai: When did you buy this? Where did you buy this? Why did you buy this? Luke: I was at the gas station last week. It was at the register. What's the big deal? Lorelai: The big deal is it's Reggae Fever. Luke: I know! Lorelai: When you look in the mirror, do you see Reggae Fever? Luke: It was cheap. Lorelai: 'Ja Glory' by Toots Bambada. 'Lively up Yourself' by the Family Zigzag, 'Let your Ya be Ya' by Ranking Roy. What else am I going to find in here? Ganja and a yellow, green and red knit cap? Luke: I bought a CD. I didn't adopt the entire Rastafarian culture. Lorelai: This is so weird. I mean, to think that there was this whole chunk of time when we weren't together. We were living totally separate lives. I was just working like crazy and you were running around, buying reggae CDs. Luke: One CD. One. Lorelai: I just hate that we were apart. Luke: Yeah, wasn't too fond of it myself. Lorelai: Well, all I can say is, you're lucky I'm back in your life, because clearly you were lost without me. I mean, it's a miracle you're even still alive. Right? Luke: You bet. (They smile. Luke starts the truck)
(Lorelai and Rory are on the phone, Lorelai getting ready for her back together date with Luke) Lorelai: Oh, this dress is too slutty. Rory: The dress is fine. The person it it however... Lorelai: (gasps) Your're breaking up. The house is going through a tunnel. You're breaking up, I- (makes staticy sounds into the phone then hangs up.)
(Kirk is collecting the pink and blue ribbons) Luke: Kirk, stop that! Kirk: Can't stop yet Luke, haven't got them all yet. Luke: I mean it. Put the box away. Kirk: Luke, you and Lorelai have reconciled. Luke: I know Kirk! I was there! Kirk: And since you too have reconciled it's only fair that the citizens of Stars Hollow, take off their pins and start to heal. ... In my case literally, I caught about an inch of man flesh with this sharp little sucker Luke: Kirk - (Lulu walks past the diner) Kirk: Lulu! HEY! Lulu: No Kirk! I like my ribbon, It's pink. I like pink. Kirk: This is bigger than your love of pink! Lulu: (screaming, she starts to run down the street) Nooooooo! Kirk: Lulu, get back here! Lulu!
Rory: What shoes are you wearing? Lorelai: The pink pumps. Rory: I like those. Lorelai: Are they a little too 'Come and get it'? Rory: Don't you want him to come and get it? Lorelai: Uh, yes, but I want it to be his idea to come and get it. It's not the same if the shoes tell him to 'Come and get it'.
Lorelai: Hey, how would you feel about doing a little shopping tomorrow? Rory: Hurt. Confused. A little dirty.
Luke: You're gonna make yourself sick. Lorelai: Yes, but my sickness will remind me of you, so it'll be romantic. Luke: Romantic nausea. Kirk: I get that all the time.
Michel: (on the phone) I insist you do something about this before I go out and find a stick and make it pointy and come and find your cubicle and poke you very hard.
Finn: Who's as drunk as I am? Colin: No one, since Spencer Tracy died.
Luke: There's nothing in here but ice cream, candy bars, cookie dough, canned frosting. Why are you not 450 pounds? Lorelai: I know. Scientists call it the Lorelai Paradox.
Michel: Who missed Michel? Lorelai: Huh. Trick question?
Luke: Want some coffee? Lorelai: Say that again slower and with your pants off. Luke: What's that? Lorelai: My pretty, pretty face. Luke: It's a Weston's coffee cup. Lorelai: Is it? Luke: You bring an enemy coffee cup in here on the day of our reconciliation. Lorelai: Well, at least I didn't ask you for a favor on this, the day of your daughter's wedding. Luke: Get that coffee outta here. Lorelai: This is not coffee. This is a mocha, chocolate, caramel, swirl-a-chino with extra whipped cream. Luke: That sounds disgusting. Lorelai: It is. And if it were physically possible to make love to a hot beverage this would be the one. Luke: So apparently I've got competition. Lorelai: No, no, no. It's just a fling. I'll finally spend the night with it, but then when I see it in the morning with the caramel unswirled and the whipped cream unwhipped - Huh! Buh-bye.
Luke: You know, if someone opened a store in this town selling giant butterfly nets they'd make a fortune. Lorelai: I don't know. The crazy need love too.
Rory: Logan! Where are we going? Slow down. Logan: You slow down, you die. Rory: Yeah, you go too fast in heels and you kind of die also.
Finn: Drink and be merry, for tomorrow we will be in a great deal of pain.
Lorelai: Hey, Kirk, how's the ribbon collecting coming? Luke: Oh, why do you get him started? Kirk: I think we're near the finish line. Lorelai: Who's winning? Luke: Hey, this isn't a contest. Lorelai: I just want to know. Luke: I don't care who's winning. Lorelai: Well, then you won't care if it's me. Luke: Well, of course it's you. You're the one who makes the costumes for the Christmas pageant. You make the ornaments for the Firelight Festival. You go to the town meetings. You say hello to people. You have a daughter that looks like she belongs on top of a Christmas tree. Everybody knows that gets you tons of points. Lorelai: Yeah. Luke: There's no way to compete with that. Lorelai: Kirk? Kirk: You're kicking his ass. Lorelai: Yes!
Kirk: I had an imaginary girlfriend, but she left me.
Lorelai: Cluelessness is the mother of invention.
Rory: Oh hey Colin, where's your date? Colin: I went to pick her up, the door opens, and she was dressed like Mira Sorvino. Robert: How do you dress like Mira Sorvino? Colin: You have blonde hair and a nametag that says Mira Sorvino. I just turned around and left.
French episode title: "Téléphone Portable et Jeu Télévisé", meaning "Cellphone And TV Game".
Music: - "Woo Hoo" by 5.6.7.8.'s - "You Never Can Tell" by Chuck Berry - "Stuck In The Middle With You" by Stealers Wheel
We see that Kirk has let himself go since A Film by Kirk. He's not as well toned (not that he was before).
Yet again, rather unfortunately, we see that Kirk sleeps in the nude. This was mentioned to Luke in "Raincoats and Recipes".
Rory is dressed as Go-Go from Kill Bill Vol. 1.
Finn's party is Quentin Tarantino themed. All attendees were dressed in costumes from various Tarantino films. Two of the costumes shown were Vincent Vega (John Travolta) and Mia Wallace (Uma Thurman) from Pulp Fiction, and the two people wearing these costumes also danced together as the characters do in the movie.
Sookie: (talking to Michel about being a contestant on "The Price is Right") And they had to wear t-shirts that said things like, "Pick me, Bob, I neutered my dog!" This is a reference to the long-time host of "The Price is Right," a game show where contestants win cash and prizes by estimating prices of various items through games. Bob Barker, the host, is an animal rights activist and would always say to "spay and neuter your pets."
Rory: ...I'm going as Gogo.
Lorelai: 'Cause you have the skirt.
Gogo was a character in the movies Kill Bill: Vol. 1 and Kill Bill: Vol.2 who wore a school uniform with a plaid skirt.
Logan: So where to next? Rory: I don't know. Mahjong with Mamet? Having just learned that Logan's mother plays canasta with playwright Tony Kushner, Rory refers to David Mamet, another critically-acclaimed contemporary playwright.
Michel: Block it with your body. Tiananmen Square, be a hero. A series of student-led demonstrations held in Tiananmen Square in Beijing, the People's Republic of China, in 1989, included an incident where one student stood in front of a line of tanks to stop them from advancing.
Robert: (reading title of Rory's book) "Social Origins of Dictatorship and Democracy: Lord and Peasant in the Making of the Modern World." Rory: Have you read it? Robert: I'm waiting for the film to come out. Rory: Yeah, I know. I heard Renée Zellweger's gaining a ton of weight to play the peasant. Actress Zellweger gained 25 pounds to play the zaftig title character of Bridget Jones's Diary (2001).
Colin: No one since Spencer Tracy. Spencer Tracy was a 1930 and 1940s era film star.
Colin: You have blonde hair and a tag that says Mira Sorvino. I just turned around and left. While Tarantino and Sorvino never worked together, it is still sort of within the party's Tarantino theme, as they dated for a couple of years in the late 1990s.
Whitney: She's over there with the guy who is dressed like Harvey Weinstein. Harvey Weinstein is a co-founder of Miramax Films and produced many of Quentin Tarantino's films.
Lorelai: ...familiar with ways to hook into local sewer lines. The line refers to Cousin Eddie Johnson (Randy Quaid) dumping his RV toilet contents into the local sewer drain in the cult film National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
Episode Title: Pulp Friction Reference to Quentin Tarantino's movie Pulp Fiction starring John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, and Uma Thurman.
Lorelai: At least I didn't ask you this favor on this the day of your daughter's wedding. Lorelai is quoting a line from the opening scene of the movie The Godfather.
