This two-part episode was produced to give network executives a preview of a possible seventh season, with the focus on Nell being a mentor to Samantha and her friends. Ultimately, the decision was made to cancel the series, likely because NBC already had chosen to debut another sitcom set on a college campus at the start of the Fall 1987 season: "A Different World."
Matthew Lawrence performs "Rock & Roll Music Is The Music For Me."
In this episode, Maggie O'Brien (Rosie O'Donnell) introduces herself to Nell, but she actually appeared in several previous episodes, and already knows Nell.
The con man is awful sure of himself, not being able to be caught, even though he's been captured on the bank video cameras (he even pointed them out to Nell)
Matthew reveals to Nell that he is only 5 in this episode.
Nell is happy that Samantha is still 17 years old for a few more days, because she still has custody of her and can tell her what to do.
Hopefully the health inspector doesn't visit the kitchen. Nicky was holding the pita bread up to his head, on top of his hair, then put it back in the pile.
Nell Carter most likely didn't need a script to talk about attempting suicide because in the past, she attempted suicide.
Nell mentions "The Brady Bunch" ran 9 years. It actually only ran 5 years.
Although the family lost the Chief, they are still in a Christmas mood. First Christmas special without the Chief.
We find out in this story that Samantha, Julie, & Katie each have their own drivers licenses & are now old enough to drive a car.
Poor Gertrude the goldfish once again meets her demise in this episode. Although this time, it seems to be of natural causes (Nell notices her doing the "backstroke" and mentions the whole family is going "belly-up")
Watch closely as Nell opens up the box containing the Chief's personal belongings, delivered by Simpson, Nell Carter isn't acting. She really cried when looking in the box containing the Chief's personal belongings.
The Chief is only seen several times in this episode. Mainly walking in one room and into another, shaking his head because he thinks Jonathan is an "Idiot Pizza Delivery Boy" as he had put it.
A few things have changed with this episode. Nell's mother is now played by Rosetta LeNoire, her name is Maybelle instead of Emma. Her sister is now played by Lynne Thigpen, and named Loretta, rather than Marie. The house also looks different inside than on the first season episode "Nell Goes Home". Also, Nell's mother acts like she's never seen Joey before, but in the previous season, Nell's mother (played by Hilda Haynes) visited the Kanisky household on the episode "A Kanisky Christmas" and most likely would have seen Joey then.
Last Christmas special with the Chief.
Nell tests the family to see how long they can stay away from the television for one evening. In the end, she finds out they were only able to stay away from the tv for 13 minutes.
Property Master Ed Beceril's last name was incorrectly spelled as Becerril in the closing credits on this episode.
Samantha reveals to Grandpa that she is 15 years old in this episode, when Grandpa talks about what age girls become women in Poland...15.
Art Director Chris Idoine is incorrectly credited as Chris Idione on the closing credits on this episode.
