Hannah questions her decisions about grad school while turmoil hits the interview stage of Shoshanna's search for employment now that she's graduated. Desi and Marnie reach a new stage in their relationship, and Ray gets angry.

Hannah by far had the most interesting story yet again this week as she leaves a letter for her classmates inside of their cubbies for her criticisms the past week at the party. Yet the wording of the letter is very passive-aggressive, much like Hannah herself is on any given day, and her classmates refuse to acknowledge it as authentic (as they totally shouldn't). Hannah isn't used to having people call her on her s**t and that's why she wants out of the program. Her professor speaks with her after class about that as well and says that not everyone is suited for grad school, a fact which seeks into Hannah. In grad school, which I myself am currently getting through, we call this "imposter syndrome" in which an individual feels unworthy of having been chosen and doesn't feel they conribute to their field in a meaningful way and should quit. This inadequacy is bolstered by Hannah not knowing how to express herself in a non-toxic non-judgmental authentic way with her new cohort which leads to a dinner with her father, who being the "nice-guy" he is comforts her and tells her that it might not be for her. In a display of homesickness, because I often feel homesick but lack the money to afford to go home all that often, Hannah springs back to New York yet at her former apartment she finds something unexpected. Upon getting into the apartment she meets Adam's new girlfriend, Mimi-Rose, and that all of her furniture is gone. Can't say I didn't see it coming, but it's not like Hannah ever really gave Adam a chance to tell her and that she didn't move a thousand miles away. I'm interested to see where this goes, and who Mimi-Rose is as a person.

Marnie gets jolted when Desi can sense her unease in their rehearsal space one afternoon. She leaves angry but then discovers him at her door later that night having broken things off with Clementine for good in a bid to be with Marnie. Marnie's ambivalence couldn't shine more through her eyes and of course her getting what she wants will be part of her not pursuing a relationship with Desi since he was only alluring when he was already spoken for as we already know about the ever-shallow and internally conflicted Marnie.

Shoshanna has a run with some bad luck in her interviews for jobs, having messed up getting an opportunity for placement a few weeks back by pulling a Hannah and putting her foot firmly in her mouth, so to speak. Upon asking what is wrong with her to her interviewer, she is told thing after thing of negatively laden, and frankly condescendingly mean and entirely non-constructive, feedback by this awful manager who was interviewing her for the position. Unemployed, she goes to visit Ray, who now has a street light on his street that only changes colors every few minutes which causes traffic to back up and be obnoxiously loud on his block. His frustration is entirely human and funny, as he wonders at the inhumanity of having lost the sanctity of his quiet corner of the city to the jungle of New York traffic navigation. Shoshanna goes with him to run errands and she tells him that she was in a bad place when they were together, her cheating on him being what she means, and that she is really sorry for how it went down. This reconciliation reminds me of simpler times on the show, such as when they were falling in love with one another, and her pushing him to not simply shop at the same place his entire life was a nice addition that shows that they might still have a future together after all.

    Notes:

-No Jessa this week, didn't really miss her one bit.

-I'm curious if Hannah is simply re-grouping and heading back to Iowa and is just visiting New York, or if she's out and returning to her old stomping ground permanently. She didn't bring all of her property save for a suitcase so she's not entirely out of Iowa just yet.

-I feel for Shoshanna on this, the world of interviewing is so much like an audition and it's terrible but it's a skill that you need to work on to survive in the world of career-building. Having failed a multitude of interviews I empathize and understand her position of uncertainty of thinking you're doing everything wrong when in fact you're simply existing as the person you are doesn't fit what the company is looking for.

-Psyched to see how Adam is holding up with Mimi-Rose and how that plays out in the next episode. So Mimi-Rose has heard a lot about Hannah, I wonder what Adam has said about her.

-It would be a sad thing to have gone to all of that trouble of moving Hannah out to Iowa just to have her move back to New York in the span of only a handful of episodes.

-Hey Elijah, how bout you throw some rent Hannah's way? It's not like eight hundred dollars a month is cheap.
