This week's Girls was a tad bit more even than usual and there was a lot more that worked than didn't for me this time than in previous weeks. Firstly, Hannah redoes her interview with Patti LuPone since she didn't get an exact quote about the product for her interview last time. This time is even more awkward since Elijah is in tow this time and they both tell Hannah to chill out. This brings out Hannah's uncanny self-destruct button while at work and gave us probably the series' most painful "shut up Hannah!" moments I've ever had to sit through. Janet, Hannah's boss, even tried to give her a break to stop but Hannah insisted on insulting all of them before getting deservedly fired. Seriously Hannah? Can't you just air your feelings outside of work because that went way beyond putting her foot in her own mouth that was as if she'd put her whole leg into her mouth. Speaking of hard to watch Marnie gave her new friendship another run of the awkwards with her clear attraction to Desi and how she feels "he completes her" or something to that effect. Things are made even worse when we learn that Desi has a girlfriend named Clementine who Marnie meets and has to swallow her embarrassment. The kicker is that she keeps pursuing him to no end despite him being perfectly happy. Come on Marnie, don't be like Hannah. Shosh didn't really appear in this episode at all, frownie face indeed dear audience. Marnie's new gallery position did get Jessa a new job though as she walks in and is honest with an artist debating whether to take down a piece on the wall or not, and the artist loves Jessa's candor. Only Jessa can get a job out of being nasty, but the differences in Jessa's bluntness countering Marnie's inability to speak critically of other people for fear of not being liked was amusing to see fully on display in that scene. Marnie has her big debut live with Desi and it goes surprisingly well, Allison Williams does have quite the impressive singing voice and seeing her go more from melancholy than from seeking validation like Elijah put it showed off in her newfound confidence onstage. Marnie then gets frustrated with Desi for being committed to someone else and goes back to Ray to have sex. Hannah comes over upset that Adam has left her behind especially after last week's roleplaying gone awry. Hannah did not have a good image to show us this week (just as a decent human being she wasn't exactly showing her best behavior here) as she says, "Everything is my business" when walking in on Ray and Marnie mid-coitus. Things are made even worse when Marnie yells that "he made me do it!" Seriously? And then Hannah says that Marnie, "Can never judge her again" before closing the door. Quite the episode to give Hannah before a finale. No doubt we will see much of Adam's debut next week so I wish the characters the best and no doubt Shosh will find out about Ray's relationship with Marnie, if you could call it that. But hopefully the finale delivers some punches we haven't seen before and might actually give Shosh something to do besides just show up for a scene. Come on Lena give Shosh a chance, she can do it I promise.moreless
