Girls had a promising ensemble episode this week much as last week. Hannah had her interview with Patti Lupone in which she has to shoehorn in mention of an advertised product that Patti doesn't actually suffer from into the article. While Hannah's work ethic is impressive (not sure I'd track someone down if they cancelled a meeting on purpose) the most infuriating thing about her is her insecurity, ex. when her boss tells her to "have fun" staying for a night at the Grammersy hotel to write another article and whether that means something other than "have Ray breaks off his "thing" with Marnie and she pretends to not care, and taking her pizza in tow with her. As lonely as Ray is I think in the long run it is for the best that they split because it's a relationship that began out of loneliness and he doesn't see a long-term with her. Adam gets some good news and gets a supporting role in a Shaw play (George Bernard Shaw for those who didn't study theatre ever) on Broadway and the hotel room party helps to celebrate. With him he brings a fellow cast member name Desi who takes an interest in Marnie and her musical prowess. Marnie also had a painful run-in with an old college friend at a frozen yogurt shop who basically spoke in internet abbreviations alone (someone put the English language out of its misery already). Shosh also comes but like usual she only shows up for a scene or so, which is a shame after the revelations of last week's great insights she had about the other characters. Jessa got bored at her baby-store job and is found by the older guy from rehab who convinces her to steal money from her store to buy cocaine for them. This is going to blow up in her face for sure and is the worst thing possible because with this black spot on her record it will be really hard for her to get by as relapsed addict with a bad job history. But I really like the writing decision to have Hannah work for GQ magazine and the space that it gives for her to negotiate the legitimacy of her writing while at the same time making a more than comfortable living (of course a young twenty-something goes for a new dress and furniture rather than investing/saving it) and how that will play out in the future of the show. But this episode had us pass the two thirds mark of the season and hopefully we get some great conflict with Adam being in rehearsal for the Broadway show and the conflict that drives between him and Hannah, as well as the fallout of Jessa's relapse, and whatever Marnie and Shosh have left to do without getting completely sidelined.moreless
