  • It's Complicated!

Welcome back Girls. Season 2 is here and things pick up not too long after they left off. Hannah and Elijah are roommates throwing a housewarming party and inviting all of their friends. Marnie gets let go by her boss at the art gallery because her boss is sleeping with the other employee so she could get sued. Marnie also has lunch with her who tells her that she looks thirty and that they should be better friends. Hannah has also struck up a new romance with a guy named Sandy who she seems to be taking a much mature approach with after Adam who she is taking care of after truck accident last season finale since it is kind of her fault it happened. Elijah has a boyfriend, George, who is rich. Shoshanna doesn't know how to feel about herself and Ray and he deflowered and her she feels as if something's missing but that she doesn't miss being a virgin. At the housewarming party Marnie sees Charlie and Audrey get into a fight and it makes her and us as the audience question their relationship since that's a lot of what their relationship was like last season before they broke up because he was too helpful/considerate, yes there is such a thing people. Marnie asks Hannah if they're ok now that they're not living together anymore and Marnie confesses that she doesn't know what to do with herself now that she doesn't have a job and that she doesn't have a boyfriend. Shoshanna avoids Ray at the party which makes things totally awkward but it is notably hilarious when she does karaoke to Sean Kingston's "2 Beautiful Girls," all by herself. George, Elijah's boyfriend, gets totally plastered and mean and Elijah gets Hannah to take him outside and lock the door so that he'll go away and sober up because Elijah can't deal with him when he's like this. Hannah goes to drop painkillers off at Adam's, who tells her that she's the best thing that ever happened to her and that he loves her, but she just can't seem to bring herself to tell him that it's over and that she's with Sandy now (which is a little understandable, given the circumstances). But Adam using things that she said like when she told him to stop her from breaking up with him if she ever did is totally unfair given the context although Hannah is being a little immature simply waiting till he's better to let him loose just like she did when he got hit by the truck someone's going to get hurt and it's going to make Adam do something crazy. Marnie and Elijah have a heart to heart about her singing which leads to concluding that he might be bisexual and hits on her and before you know it they're making out and he puts a condom on but he can't stay hard so they stop. Marnie tells him that he doesn't have to pretend to be something he's not, which he tells her the same thing. But seeing Hannah stand up to Adam and say that she's an individual not having to spend all of her time with him even though she's caring for him is a good step for as taking control of her life now and showing up at Sandy's house late at night also gave us another glimpse of how Dunham is unafraid to show realistic looking people naked or having sex that wouldn't be considered rail thin or this "construct of beauty" so bravo. I was really surprised to see Elijah have sex with Marnie, and Shoshanna and Ray hooking up again was predictable his saying how her text messages with emoticons of "a panda, a gun, and a smiley face?" was really entertaining. All of the modern talk about unfriending on Facebook and stuff really does give this the modern touch of reality and the characters remain grounded and interesting and I can't wait to see the week to week exploits continue.
