Episode Summary

EDIT

Hannah, a 24-year-old aspiring writer living in NYC, is blindsided when her parents cut her off financially. Subsequently fired from her unpaid internship, she seeks comfort from Adam, the eccentric actor she sometimes sleeps with when she can get him to respond to her texts. Meanwhile, Hanna's best friend and Type-A roommate Marnie hosts a dinner party for their bohemian British friend Jessa, who has returned from who-knows-where to move in with her younger, 'Sex and the City'-obsessed cousin Shoshanna.

This new Apatow produced comedy offers a look into a young post college graduate twenty-something market of young women in high urban areas. Our protagonist, Hannah, learns at a dinner that she is being cut off by her parents financially and has to get a job to support herself now. The relationships in the beginning of the episode are really well established with the bleeding heart father and the cold as ice tough mother who wants a lake house. Also on display is the many roommates and friends Hannah has including her beautiful friend who wants to get out of her relationship with her kindness exuding boyfriend Charlie. Enter visiting British space cadet Jessa who visits the pair since she's Shoshanna's cousin (who always raves about sex and the city way to throw that in HBO). The thing about Girls is that Hannah's problems with her parents and the relationships that are deal with feel like human people and not generic oversimplified sitcom-esque caricatures. This show reminds me greatly of another young adult series Freaks and Geeks which everyone and their mother should watch at some point. Girls is without a doubt a very mature show that promises to see us watch these young women struggle through a time in their life where they haven't made it yet but the conflict is all the mistakes we all made when we were that age trying to get to the top.moreless
