Girls had one of its best episodes on its hands this week in the final episode season 3. After last week's seeming self-destruction Hannah actually gets some good news that she's been accepted to Iowa's graduate writing program and doesn't know whether she should accept it or not. In other news we also discovered the fate of Caroline which had been left up in the air before now. Turns out she's with Laird and she's pregnant with his kid. It's great to see her more on balance and less off the wall than she was earlier in the season especially when things seem so tense between Adam and Hannah at the moment. Hannah goes to visit Marnie with the news who congratulates her and decides to visit Shoshanna to tell her about her relationship with Ray. Shosh doesn't get good news on an educational level either as she learns that a hold has been put on her account stopping her from graduating because she failed her Glaciology class. Her scene with destroying her room all Citizen Kane like was great to watch right before Marnie comes in and drops the bomb on her. Shosh yells and says that she hates her, even though she and Ray haven't been a thing in quite some time. Jessa agrees to help the gallery artist from last week kill herself with pills but the artist decides against it at the last moment. Shosh, Elijah, Ray, Hannah, and Marnie all go to Adam and Desi's opening night. Marnie continues her personal relationship intrusion streak by giving Desi a pick that belonged to James Taylor (one of my own favorite musicians) and this leads him to kissing Marnie, which she becomes ecstatic about. I think it's a thrill thing for her, when she can't have what isn't available she goes to what is in the form of Ray. Not a very healthy way to live a relationship Marnie, but it does make for some infuriating conflict on the show. Hannah decides to tell Adam right before the show starts that she got into Iowa and that she has learned so much from him and he touchingly tells her he loves her and they both can be expressive as an artistic couple. Shosh confronts Ray during intermission and confesses that Marnie told her about their fling and that she wants him back and that her whole year of freedom was fake and that she was better being his girlfriend than when she hasn't been. Ray, understandably, tells her that she has no right to be jealous with her infidelities while they were still together and that he only is successful now because of her and that they're in different places so it wouldn't work. The scene was crushing and as someone who was such a fan of them as a couple last year I understand where Ray is coming from but it's very hard to watch Shoshanna put herself on the line like that and be rejected. The show goes over well except that Adam doesn't think it did because of Hannah having told him that she was basically going to leave him. Elijah excuses just in time before the two of them break up (I think). It's too bad that Adam has to let that get under his skin in that way but if they're breaking up it's all for the better since she's going to accept the graduate school offer I bet (it would be a finale cheat if she wasn't). Marnie has a great scene with Clementine (Desi's girlfriend) in the bathroom and how Clementine sees right through Marnie's attempts to snag Desi away from her. Marnie, please just stop, they're perfectly happy and you're gambit cost you a great songwriting partnership. Or maybe it didn't, as we see Marnie creeping behind a gate outside of the bar where Clementine and Desi are fighting. So I guess when Girls returns next winter we'll see the fallout from this, check in with Ray, Adam (maybe), Shosh, and Jessa while Hannah heads to Iowa. I'm guessing this will not drastically change the show since so much focuses on Hannah as is she just won't be in the same room as the other characters as much as she was before so writing will have to rely a lot on using skype or live chat for her to stay in the loop of their New York City lives. Season 3 was a thoroughly enjoyable ride with a few snags in the middle but I'm still sold on tuning into the show when it returns next year, especially if they can keep the changes coming such as this finale demonstrated.moreless

I just wanted to say one thing: Elijah's sneaky photo-bombing was the best.
