Gladiators (1992)

Show Summary

Gladiators is the U.K. series which ran from 1992 until 2000. Considered by some to be the greatest athletic competition ever on U.K. television, Gladiators was the spin-off of the widely popular American series American Gladiators. The series had their own unique events, as well as some from the original version, and boasted it's own line of toys, books, and game. Everyday men and women competed in heats against 'Gladiators' for enough points to push them through to the finals where they had the chance of winning up to £10,000. After the success of the newest version of American Gladiators in early 2008, a new Gladiators series is set to air May on Sky One.

    • Competition at its best.

In 1992 someone decided to take the American Gladiators phenomenon to the U.K. - the result, Gladiators! This long running show really gave you competition at its best, along with some of the most beautiful people who ever stepped into the lycra.

Gladiators featured men and women competing in a series of games each trying to best the colorfully named "characters" of the show. People like Jet, Shadow, Zodiac, and Trojan fought everyday people like you and me in an attempt to keep them from scoring points and eventually taking home a grand prize.

Much like it's father show, American Gladiators, Gladiators not only featured a show for television, but also had a live show that ran at the same time as the series. This group of live shows gave the Gladiators time to hone their skills and try out new games that might make it onto the show the next season (or series as they are called in the U.K.).

Some consider Gladiators the U.K.'s best athletic competition show ever, and with the fan following it still has, they may be right.moreless
    • This show was a must see for me back in the kiddie days when it was about

Gladiators from the start was a great show id watch whenever it was on , the same events u knew in and out being played by different people was always enjoyable to watch as it is not including the gladiators youd see most shows coming in to make the events more difficult , i mean who didnt love to see the buff gladiator chicks getting sweaty :)
    • Personally, I think Gladiators was, and still is THE best tv show ever to be aired! It must be brought back!

Gladiators was a superb piece of programming! I can remember watching it as a child, sitting infront of the tv and cheering characters like Jet and Saracen, and booing Mr Meanie himself, Thw Wolf Man! I am now 13, and every since my family got Sky, I have watched it every night, without fail! The ratings soared to 14 million people! You can\'t say it was a bad program with the statistics! The events were thrilling, with a large variety. From Atlaspheres to Vertigo, the events always excelled. The contenders were just as excellent. They always had a thrive to beat the Gladiators, no matter who they were! If any accidents were to happen, even if just a contender were to get winded, the game would stop and the medical crew would be right on hand. The presenters, Ulrika, Fash, and for a short while Jeremy always kept the program alive. The fair, but fun, referee, John Anderson became one of the stars of the show! His catchphrases such as \'Contenders ready, Gladiators Ready\' and \'3...2...1\' in his rich Scottish accent are still used today! There were many special episodes, such as Celebrity and Armed Forces, and of course, the unforgettable internaitional Gladiators! Gladiators was a highly entertaining program. Bring it back!moreless
    • Possibly the greatest show ever to grace this Earth. It was the UK's answer to WWF wrestling. It should be brought back with a vengeance!!!

I remember sitting down every saturday evening when I was a kid to watch this brilliant show. gladiators was every kids dream show. With characters like Wolf, how could you not like it? And the challenges were amazing. I always used to wish that I could've been part of the show and take on the Gladiators. An added bonus of course was the luscious presenter Ulrika Johnson. Whoever created this show was an absolute genius. They should bring it back like they did with Doctor Who or at least release it on DVD so that guys like me can relive the old memories.moreless
