In a reversal of character, Sue asks Artie, Kurt and Blaine to sing at the homeless shelter she plans to volunteer at on Christmas. But doesn't Sue just think the homeless people are "urban campers"? Sue explains she's trying to fill the void left by her sister's death. And her original plans to shoot reindeer from a helicopter with Sarah Palin fell through.
The boys agree to get New Directions to perform, but then they find out that Mr. Schue has arranged for them to do a Christmas special on the local PBS affiliate.
With a school musical production under his belt, Artie takes on the job of directing the show. He conceives of a Judy Garland Christmas Show meets Star Wars Holiday Special combo. The retro-themed show features Blaine and Kurt in black-and-white in a mid-century Christmas chalet singing Christmas songs by the fire and receiving visits from friends. The feature climaxes with an in-color performance of the African famine-relief classic, Do They Know It's Christmas?
Then the kids realize they haven't acknowledged the true meaning of Christmas, so they head over to the homeless shelter with a turkey and perform.
