Worst episode ever. I get what they were trying to do, but what a horrible execution. Try to get in Sue's head - sure, but did he have to try to seduce her, those were some of the most awkward scenes I've seen in almost any television shows...just about made my stomach churn. And there was no precursor to Jesse leaving. He just left after two episodes ago saying he really cared about her. And how could Shelby at least have a heart the last episode and in this one, just let her kids do that to her daughter? That's just ridiculous. And funk? Really? And I like the whole Quinn-Mercedes friendship, but did it have to come about by a bunch of pregnant girls dancing and singing to a horrible song?

I love Glee - one of my favorite shows by far, but nothing about this episode will ever entice me to see it again. Pardon the pun, but the writers of this episode must have been in a funk...
  • This show is getting into the zone of borderline boring..

I really don't know why. Is it because all fall shows have ended, or something else that this show is boring as hell.

The comedy element which was a huge factor in the initial few episodes is clearly missing here. And honestly all the egg hurling and Jamba juice throwing are getting stale. I felt like throwing up after will did his stripper-esque routine to seduce Sue. And the drama that followed with Sue going all desperate for love was too cheesy and not something you expect from Jane Lynch's character.

We got one episode left, and I don't expect it be a shot out of the park.
  • Kurt: Mr Schue, Rachel's one of us. We're the only ones who get to humiliate her.

I had mixed feelings about this episode. Here are the problems I had with it: Quinn's awkward dialogue about being funky. It just seemed very staged and inauthentic. Mr. Schuester's scene seducing Sue Sylvester. It was somewhat funny, but also, a bit disturbing and totally cringe-inducing. I was yelling "No! No! No!" at the tv for his whole performance of "Tell Me Something Good."

Jesse's abrupt turn to the dark side. Hadn't Jessee forgiven Rachel for her video? I thought he had. If so, there was no new fallout between him and Rachel, so why was he acting as if there was? Knowing that he likes her (or at least he said he did!), why is he being so cruel to her? I guess maybe that was an act too? (It had me convinced!)

Why would Rachel's biological mother stand by and let her students harass her daughter, even if they aren't going to have a mother-daughter relationship? She may not have known they were going to egg her, but she apparently was aware of the tp-ing prank. Here's what saved the episode for me: I loved the musical numbers. I actually thought that Quinn's "Man's World" performance with her fellow unwed mothers was great. Most of all, I especially enjoyed New Directions performance of "Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)." I liked the progression of the friendship between Mercedes and Quinn. It was very kind of Mercedes to offer Quinn an escape from the Puckerman household. Sue Sylvester is awesome and was the single greatest redeeming factor for this episode. Here are some quotes that exemplify why: Sue: Dear Journal, something strange happened yesterday. I felt something below the neck. Dare I admit it? I have feelings for one Will Schuester. Sexy, non-murdering feelings. ... Sue: That gay terrorist went on to become the first gay president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. Sue (to Will): And though I completely loathe you, you'd make a great trophy husband. And as you can see by my decor, I love me some trophies. Sue: You know, for me trophies are like herpes. You can try to get rid of them but they just keep coming. Sue Sylvester has hourly flair ups of burning itchy highly contagious talent. Sue: Will, I'm not going to do this. Even your breath stinks of mediocrity. Yay Sue! I love her! Overall, a good episode, I would say, despite my reservations.
  • How many times can we say "Funk" in one episode?

What the 'Funk' was this? This episode seemed oddly placed as the lead-in to next week's finale. If there was some rearranging done by the FOX network regarding this last batch of eps, it certainly shows. The plot here was kind of all over the place, inconsistent, and what's worse, half the songs weren't very good.

The idea was that Vocal Adrenaline has basically already beaten New Directions psychologically. And with a little bullying. Our glee club is in a rut. Depressed. In a 'funk' if you will. Mentally, they don't think they can win. So Shue decided to give everyone the assignment of finding and fighting the funk within themselves. Mercedes and Quinn both misinterpreted this to mean soul or blues, and they got into a little spat about which of them was 'funkier'. Somehow Quinn tried to equate being pregnant with racism? What the funk? In fact, they were both wrong, but whatever. They still have good scenes together. Mercedes invited Quinn to live with her, and I can't help but think Mercedes is in now place to make a decision like that. She does have parents, doesn't she? What's frustrating about this plot was the way Jesse broke up with Rachel, (which I could have sworn happened already) and how he complained about glee never accepting him as one of their own, (he was never around half the time!) and how Shelby, who had such emotional reconciliation with her newly discovered daughter Rachel, would allow this kind of behavior from her team going into the competition. Yes, that thought was one long sentence of a paragraph. I did kind of like the symbolic egging scene of Rachel in slo mo. Poor kid.

The other completely out of place element was Will and Sue. It's no surprise that the show runners would play with a romance element with these two (at least maybe next year) but everything about this came out of nowhere and just didn't ring true to either character at all. Some might excuse this because Will was only manipulating her, and Sylvester was so lonely she considered it, but I don't buy either excuse. Sue hates Will. Period. And Schuester has done a lot of things, but not even he would stoop so low. Everything about this plot was false false false. But at least we got to see Sylvester's house, cluttered with nothing but trophies and track suits- awesome!

There was basically only one thing I liked, and it was surprisingly, the return of Terri, who I admit, I've kind of missed. She was an interesting and somewhat pathetic villain, who I kind of feel for when she makes those sad puppy eyes. Signing the divorce papers was a good scene. As was everything at Sheets N Things, which also saw returning goofballs Howard and Sandy. Puck and Finn got jobs there to pay for slashing the tires of Vocal Adrenaline's cars. At least the guys stepped up in this episode. The store stuff also hosted the best song of the night.

"Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen

Vocal Adrenaline (VA) intimidated New Directions (ND) with this one, but I don't see why they got so scared. This number wasn't very good.

    Grade: C

"Tell me Something Good" by Chaka Khan.

It was a little humorous to watch the tension between them as Will tried to seduce Sue. But as I said, didn't buy it, and it goes against character. I threw up in my mouth a little...

    Grade: D+

    "Loser" by Beck.

This was AWESOME. Puck and Finn were great, and the whole store chiming in was a lot of fun. So mad they cut this one short. Great song, great use of it in the show.

    Grade: A-

    "It's a Man's Man's Man's World" by James Brown.

In my opinion, one of the greatest songs of all time.

I was totally surprised to see Quinn tackle this, and the backup pregnant dancers were hilarious. I liked the feminine touch. However this was also really weird. Grade: B

"Good Vibrations" by Mark mutherFunkin Wahlberg!

Ah, The Funky Bunch...I miss those days. What has music become? Mercedes lead ND, handling Loletta Holloway's vocals with ease. And Puck did Marky Mark proud. Grade: B

"Give up the Funk" by Parliament

This was the only real 'funk' song of the episode, and even then, this could be classified as disco.

ND fired back at VA with this set piece, and I thought it was a chaotic but also muddled performance. No standouts. Was that Rachel in the hat and shorts? Why can't we see her? Is she hiding?

Grade: C Overall, I appreciated the show's loose definition of 'funk', and the collection of songs represented that in a wide variety (variety of songs is always a plus). I also appreciate that Glee doesn't confine itself to only pop radio from KISS FM. and take risks with older material. But pop does seem to be their strength. That and show tunes. The funk didn't quite work for me this time.

i really liked this episode, and i like all of the dance scenes in it to. but i thought quinn's dance scene was a little strange, with all the pregnant dancers at the back, but it was still good. Also, i was wondering about the whole thing with she's gonna live, cause she doesn't live with her parents because she got pregnant, and now she's living with Mercedes but i wonder what will happen once she actually has the baby. i liked how everything kind came together leading up to the next episode, i thought there were some really funny parts as well: Kurt: Mr Schue, Rachel's one of us. We're the only ones who get to humiliate her
  • Shut the Funk Up! =P

Let's get the bad out of the way first, shall we, as this episode has quite a few missteps, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the hell out of it!

Funk. Funk. Funk. Shut the funk up! I was agitated by the first 20 minutes, but when almost every single character threw in their little 'funk' moan, it took its toll on this viewer. I wanted to put my funking fist through my funking TV-set.

Joking aside, I wasn't too impressed by a few of the storylines here. While I did enjoy aspects of each storyline, the way these characters change personality traits on a whim can get a little irritating. Take Mercedes, for example: why was she such a bitca to Quinn (AKA Mother Theresa) for the first half of the episode? She then invites Quinn to stay with her in the second half… this entire story felt too forced for my liking.

Speaking of Quinn, she gets the best song of the episode! I was rather surprised by Dianna's range here, she must be getting lessons. Having said that, the whole 'preggo' dance routine made me cringe like it was my day job. Not cool.

The entire Will and Sue scenario, while it painfully highlights a serious lack of Ms Pillsberry, was gorram entertaining. I was a little wary of the fact that Sue was falling hard for Will, but it's later explained that Sue is simply alone and that she'd take anyone if the chance arose. I loved that whole exchange because it gives Sue some much needed depth while still allowing her to be as vindictive and callous as ever.

Rachel and Jesse haven't been allowed enough screen time to really convince that they are in love. Nevertheless, Jesse's betrayal is actually pretty effective (thanks to Lea's perfected puppy dog sad-face) and it definitely sets up Vocal Adrenaline as a force to be reckoned with. It's a pity that New Directions gave away their hand by showcasing what they have planned for Regionals (now VA will surely counter funk, right?).

Overall, a solid Glee episode. I would have liked the episode to have left a little more leeway to set up the finale. Vocal Adrenaline are left pretty much speechless by the end of the episode by their opponents knock-out performance, it's a pity the writers didn't let VA come out on top in this episode just to amp up the tension further. Ah well…spilt milk…and all that.
  • Let's get Funky!!

Good episode. Starts out with Vocal Adrenaline funking the Glee club by showing them one of their numbers. Will sign his divorce which I am happy about it because hopefully we will have WEMMA! The Glee club's assignment is to get a funk song Will gets this idea from Sandy who knows that the weakness of Vocal Adrenaline is Funk. Puck and Finn flat tire all the cars of Vocal Adrenaline and get caught and therefore they have to get a job to pay them back or else they would get expelled. So Puck and Finn get a job where Terri works, where Terri seems to like Finn and promotes him. Rachel is heartbroken and tells Will that it was a great tactic of Jesse to break her heart. Will gets the idea and starts playing with Sue until he actually hurts her feelings. Quinn wants to sing a Funk song because she feels angry and has soul! She sings and at the end of the scene Mercedes talks to her and tells her she understands what she is feeling. Also Mercedes tells Quinn that she can move into her house. Which I thought was really sweet. Then Jesse calls Rachel and tell her to meet him at the parking lot and it turns out that the other members of Vocal Adrenaline are there and they egg Rachel Jesse also eggs her. Poor Rachel! But at the end of the episode Sue wins Nationals. Glee club gets to Funk out Vocal Adrenaline which is great because they get them funked and depressed! Next stop Regionals!!
  • New Directions is in a funk after Jesse transfers back to Vocal Adrenalin.

    "Good"
I didn't hate this episode but I didn't love it either. For me, the biggest problem was continuity. Jesse's animosity towards New Directions and his cruelty towards Rachel seemingly came out of nowhere--the last time we saw him, he was happily trying to help Rachel figure out her dreams. I could have understood this episode following "Bad Reputation," but felt it out of place here. I'm sure the writers wanted to build conflict for regionals but it just didn't work here. I hope Jesse's behavior gets explained somehow in the next episode. I actually liked Jesse character and I liked the pairing of him and Rachel so his personality disorder felt contrived. I was also sad to see how Vocal Adrenalin treated Rachel but I loved how all of the boys (even Kurt!) raced to her defense. Fingers crossed that the season finale is as good as "Sectionals."
  • Mercedes helps Quinn gets in touch with her "funky" side. Meanwhile, Terri Schuester returns with a plan while Will has some plans of his own for Sue.

I will make it quick... it was a nice episode, not the best episode but not the worse...

I love the Funk and I was dancing during the songs (this stay between us) even though there were not the best songs they've done.

The vocal adrenaline performance was good and shows how they are working. There is one group doing one thing. The New direction final performance was awesome (this was the part when I dance) because it shows a group with a soul and several personalities.

The Will-Sue storyline was really funny and like always is one of the best part of this show; Jane Lynch is really good like with the 'lap dance' when she try to hide that she doesn't feel anything...her face express everything!

The competition between the 2 teams is hard and promises a lot of stuff for next episode (which also is the season finale....sorry guys).

The Terry story with Finn didn't get the purpose of that maybe they could have dug more into this or not start this....
