  • Hard work trying to fill 'Sectionals' shoes, isn't it?

    "Great"
    Glee is one of my favorite shows ever, and I was really convinced that 'Sectionals' was an extremely good season finale. Saying that my expectations for the comeback were sky high, and that is probably why I wasn't over the moon with 'Hell-o'.

    Very entertaining episode with certain highlights such as the funny Santana and Brittany moments and Finn's realization of his love for Rachel.

    For the more romantic viewer there were some pearls like the scene with Rachel and Jesse St. James, singing Hello by Lionel Richie.

    For the John Lennon's fans we were presented once again with a spectacular rendition of one of his songs (keep it coming).

    A good beginning of 2nd part, even if a bit weak comparing to the last episode.

    Nevertheless there is never a bad episode of Glee in my opinion (as I am a great suck up for musicals).
  • Rachel and Jesse make sweet sweet music together...

    Relationship Aspects:

    Up to this point I liked Finn and Rachel, not anymore. It's not because I think that Jesse is a better fit for Rachel, but that Finn doesn't even know what he wants yet he's too wishy washy, last season he really liked Rachel and wanted to date her to some degree, but then he broke up with her, then he wanted to be with her again... He has to figure out what he wants before he starts telling Rachel he won't give up until he gets her. This is where Jesse comes into the picture. Jesse is Rachel's soulmate. I just know it. Though his motives seem to be a bit precarious, they truly are perfect with each other. Song Aspect:

    I am a total Gleek, so of course i loved the songs! It's a mix of old and new and i think it was the cherry on top of a great episode.

    honestly? the only saving grace of this episode were Finns wardrobe and Brittany. it was a mess and while I liked some points that were introduced - the resons Emma broke up with Will and the reasons for Finn not wanting to be with Rachel, the rest was just terrible on various levels. for the first time evr it hurt me phisically to listen to the songs. I didnt enjoy a single performance. and while Sue was back with a bang, the rest was just mediocre at best. I mean Finn pining over Quinn? really? and Will essentailly cheating on both his wife and his girlfriend? and the introduction of Jesse St. James is just lazy writing in my book. of course it creates conflict. but it just brings in another problem without solving any other that were already introduced. and honestly - the character isnt interesting enough to really validate such a drama. for a star of their biggest rival he aint really that much of a singer. or a looker. he is Rachel with a Y chromosome and lower IQ. and while I may look forward to Finn fighting for Rachel, right now its pretty much the only positive thing I can see in the future. Im not saying the show will be bad. Im just saying that instead of coming back with a bang the show returned without all the thing that made me love it in the first place.

    Sorry to say this about a show we all really love right now...but this come back really just didn't live up to standards. And by that, I mean even by standards of its storylines and show. The first 10 minutes began as a rehash of last seasons storyline, the rest just dangled on aimlessly to fulfill a song at the end. Maybe that's the problem, we've all come to expect too high a standard, and this show might not be able to live up to it. Just look at what has happened to Heroes. All the same, we have a new season, so let the entertainment begin.
  • I liked it but didn't love it...

    I loved the songs, I still love all of these characters but I was a bit disappointed. Sue was hilarious as always and the cheerleaders helping her were equally as funny. While I loved Rachel singing 'Gives You Hell' I thought that whole storyline was a bit rushed...I know Jesse is actually is dating for an ulterior motive but it still came out of no where...just my opinion. Luckily, I do really like the character of Jesse so should be great in the next few episodes.

    Wasn't a fan of Will making out with the Vocal Adrenaline leader woman either to be honest...I did really like the Will/Emma scenes and liked how they handled that storyline. Terri was pretty evil here with letting slip about the prom song...she's great though. So yeah I liked it but I didn't love it which makes me disappointed because it went out on such a high.

    Looking forward to more though...
  • An episode that tore down much of what had been built to date.

    3.5
    "Bad"
    It was extremely disappointing that episode 13 ended at a point where a number of story-lines were wrapped up, only to have episode 14 immediately reset them to the start.

    At the end of episode 13:

    Sue was exposed and got her comeuppance;

    The principal was much stronger and now supportive of the Glee Club;

    The Cheerleaders who had infiltrated the club to destroy it from the inside, as Sue's spies, embracing the team;

    Terri and Quinn were finally exposed as frauds;

    Star-crossed lovers Will and Emma finally got together, as well as the door was let open for Finn and Rachel to start a romance without obstacles.

    It was a long hard road of thirteen episodes to get to this highly anticipated point.

    Then came episode 14 ... How did this episode end ... by destroying the build-up of the first thirteen episodes before it; by turning back the clock on the Finn-Rachel relationship, and the Will-Emma relationship, setting both relationships back to square one;

    by, worse yet, bringing back Sue in pretty much the same role she had had all season;

    by making the principal again weak and no longer supportive;

    by having 2 Cheerleaders forget the camaraderie and loyalty of the Glee Club and the sacrifices they made to assist it in finally winning, again become spies for Sue and attempt to destabilise the team and destroy it from the inside.

    Did the writers step on the reset button, because I could almost swear that episode 14 is a repeat of episode 1? It most certainly felt that way.

    I expected episode 14 to contain a natural progression from the previous episode, that the writers continued forward from episode 13 –creating new drama and conflict required to keep an audience interested- in a manner that didn't destroy the story advancements made up to episode 13.

    Instead, I now feel manipulated and taken advantage of, as if the investment of my time and emotion towards the series to date have been for naught.

    And now I don't know if I have any trust in the producers and writers to allow myself to go through it all again: Can I invest myself for the next 12 episodes in Finn's struggle to win over Rachel, only to again find another letdown when they are finally together, the episode after, the writers reset them again?

    Can I spend another 12 episodes watching Will and Emma dancing around each other yet again, one staring at the other, unbeknownst by the other, from the wings, giving loving looks, but unable to approach, unable to touch? This time not because Will is married, but because of the old overused cliché, that he has to find himself. (Isn't that what Will did by starting the Glee Club, by sacrificing for it, by leaving his harpy of a wife?)

    Can I again spend 12 episodes watching the 2 cheerleadering agents of Sue who had already undergone so much with the Glee Team only to switch their loyalties back to Sue, do it all over again?

    This reset really means that there has been no real character development, no real advancement in the story, no real change to the formula that the writers have used until now, and in the end it just means a new repetition of what has already gone before.

    Come on writers, producers, let the characters grow, let them change, let them develop, let the Glee Club change its standing in the school, let there be real advancement, instead of just rehashing what has gone before.
  • Good episode but weak start for the second half of the season

    In the first new episode we have a lot of love drama and I mean really A LOT. I like Jesse even though I want Rachel and Finn to be together. I just don't like Rachel to fall so fast for another guy when she was/is so madly in love with Finn. Therefore it's sad that they broke up.

    I don't know exactly why but the spark between Will and Emma wasn't there this time.

    So the two main couples are separated now to keep the love plots of the show going and we are back to where the show started. Let's see what the next episodes will bring, maybe this developments aren't that bad at all. Unfortunately story wise that's it for this episode...

    Although the episode had it's weak points, really, point me to the episode that doesn't, I still quite enjoyed this episode.

    First of all, I really enjoyed every performance in this episode. Not every performance was outstanding, but I can honestly say I wouldn't skip over any of the songs when I watch the episode again. 'Hello, I Love You' - He's not the best singer in the world, but I actually like Cory Monteith's voice, and I think this is one of his better performances. Also, the look on Kurt's face during this scene made me laugh.

    'Gives You Hell' - I thought this number was rather fun to watch. 'Hello' - This is where we meet Jonathan Groff's character Jesse St. James and I think his voice blends with Lea's really well.

    'Highway to Hell' - I'm not really familiar with the original, but I really enjoyed watching this number. Also, the show-face comment was pretty funny.

    'Hello Goodbye' - I really love the New Directions group performance and this one is no different. It's one of my favourites so far.

    Aside from the music, there were several moments that had me almost laughing out loud. Kurt's 'No, she's dead. This is her son.' and almost anything that Brittany said were the highlights of this episode.

    At first I wasn't sure how Jonathan Groff and Idina Menzel were going to fit in, but I was pleasently surprised and I'd like to see more of these characters. Now, for the episodes weaker points. Things moved a little fast this episode, and things that were sparked at the end of the first half were cut loose. Will and Emma ended the first half with a kiss and it appears that their relationship is starting out, but by the end of this episode they decide against it. The other thing is Rachel and Jesse's relationship. At first you think he's sincere, then you think he's playing her, then you think he's sincere again, and finally you find out he really is a jerk. I think this should have spanned a few episodes before we actually find out what his intentions are.

    All in all, I enjoyed this episode and look forward to what's to come.

    I was fortunate enough to see a sneak preview of this episode last week and I still have yet to recover. As a hard core gleek it was simply amazing. I've been patiently waiting for these back nine episodes since Sectionals. That episode left us with our mouths gaping and well this episode is just what we needed. While I was at the preview I noticed how full the theater was with such a variety of people. This show is appealing to so many demographics, it's incredible. Gleeks like me will love tonight's episode updating us on the current relationships in McKinley High School and new comers watching for the first time because all of the hype are sure to be hooked with these great performances. Seriously, tonight's songs are some of my favorites. If this episode is a precursor for what is to come with the rest of season one I will die happy. The musical numbers are bigger and better and the story-lines juicier than before, Glee is here to stay.

    Don't get me wrong, I am nothing but a a huge fan of this show. I loved the way they wrapped up mid season, and I, like most couldn't wait a second more for Glee to re-air. Lets face it, you are back after ending a complete unit of a story -pretty much like ending a season. You must initialize a new storyline, introduce new characters, blah and blah. I didn't expect this episode to hit the ball out of the park, though they could have made it more interesting, added more musical numbers, and given the other characters more time. But somehow, the hype surrounding the show coming back from a long hiatus sucked me into a false sense of excitement. And since the show didn't deliver a standout comeback performance, I was terribly disappointed. I am surprised Idina Menzel didn't get enough screen time, and what the hell? she didn't even sing, and why is she making out with Schuester? But yes, the future looks good, Kristin Chenoweth will be back, so will NPH. Things look good.
  • Sue is back. She is bound and determined to bring down Glee by any means possible. Finn and Rachel as well as Will and Emma are dating. A rival championship Glee group has its sites set on killing the competition as well.

    Glee returns and does what it does best, entertain. This episode wasn't so much about the plot as the music and the production numbers which were plentiful. I think the producers and writers may have been listening to the masses and following their comments as this is much more what people want to see from this show.

    We have Sue Sylvester out to get Will Schuester with a vengeance. How she tricked her way back into the good graces of the school is a classic ploy. Her manipulation of the Cherrios and her plan was pretty solid. She just has to count on her girls to follow through. For some reason they just aren't up to the task. Intelligence just doesn't seem to be their forte.

    Poor Will, by the end of tonight he's not really sure what is up or down. He and Finn are sort of in the same predicament. With Will it's his soon to be ex-wife, Emma, and now the competition in Shelby playing with his mind. With Finn we have his ex-Quinn, Rachel, and finally the cheerleader twins Brittany and Santana fooling with him. In some cases there are alterier motives and in some it's just plain love and heartache. Rachel's friend Jesse is obviously being told to do his thing with her and that is working for the other group as well.

    The Vogue piece at the end was a great surprise and will be a smashing success. Jane Lynch as Sue Sylvester continues to surprise everyone with her talent as an actress and a performer.

    A great comeback for one of this seasons best after a long hiatus. Glee is back and on fire again. Thanks for reading...

    Yeah, we missed Glee! It was just so nice to have the show back, I just don't think I can give a fair review underneath all my delight. I mean, I didn't really have anything to complain about (a big deal for me!) but I'll do my best to be unbiased.

    Glee is very much a take-it-or-leave it kind of show. At this point you either like it or you don't, for better or worse. I'm happy to say I think tonight's return didn't miss a beat. The show is pretty much exactly the same, and I'm glad the super-popularity of this series hasn't compromised the show in any visible way. "Hell-O" was a great balance of storytelling and song. However, this also means the show's flaws are unchanged as well. There's still the lip-syncing aspect to the numbers that hasn't been fixed, and the melodrama is at an all-time high. In fact, if there are any complaints, it would have to be that it feels like the show is playing it so safe that they are spinning the exact same plots again. Win Regionals, or Glee Club is canceled. Sue Sylvester still wants to destroy the Glee Club, using the Cheerios from within. Obstacles are still keeping Will and Emma apart. Ditto for Finn and Rachel. Etc, etc. The flipside to that argument is that all that stuff is what makes the show what it is. The Glee kids are still social losers. Thank goodness! Nothing more refreshing than slushies to the face to bring everything back down to earth and in perspective. The creators haven't gotten egotistical at all! And most importantly, Hell-O was funny! I loved the explanation for how Sue got reinstated (she basically resorted to a date-rape drug with the principal). I loved the introduction of National Champs Vocal Agression and their star performer Jesse St. James (a very Will Ferrel movie-esque name, lol) who has Rachel under his spell. Their coach, Idena Menzel (Rent) was a great guest spot, and is dead-ringer for Lea Michele in a creepily amusing way.

    And I loved ditsy Brittany, who probably got the best one-liners ever. The scene with her Santana and Finn on the date at the restaurant was genius. Everybody, even wife-b*tch Terri, got a little moment here, so it was weird to me that Quinn, one of the breakout characters, was literally left without a line of dialogue. On to the Hello-themed music this week:

    "Hello, I Love You"- The Doors

    Surprisingly, Finn did this "discovering himself" number justice. Thought I'd hate it. Didn't: B+

    "Gives You Hell"- All American Rejects

    Rachel was pretty ticked at unappreciative Finn, and the rest of the class jumped right in. Anger in songs has always been played kind of 'fun' on Glee. It's weird. But charming: B

    "Hello"- Lionel Richie

    Still haven't found a dude that can stand up to Lea Michele vocally. Rachel dominates Mr. Jesse St. James in this library duet. He should be embarrassed: B-

    "Highway to Hell"- AC/DC

    Love this song. Seeing it get "Glee-d" kind of bugged me. But it wasn't bad as a whole. And it was brief: B

    "Hello Goodbye"- The Beatles

    Like AC/DC, adapting these classics in a show-tune style can be super hit-or-miss. They got away with one here: B

    I think it's safe to call this season 2; I'm not one for the whole half season malarkey. Things are bigger; things are brighter (so much so you have to wear sunscreen!) and just when you think this season is going to be season 1 with a few tweaks, the writers make a few gutsy moves and shake a few of the core relationships up quite a bit. Sure, in a Disney-like kind of way, you have to ignore the fact that after one duet Rachel's in love, and that we're reminded these guys are supposed to be 15/16, training bra and all, BUT, when the show tackles quirky, it works OH so well. Wait, what? I was talking about…oh yeah, shaking things up! Rachel starts out practically obsessed with Finn and ends the episode rejecting him. Mr. Schu and Emma break up! I think the most shocking moment of all has to be the ever lifeless Finn getting the best song of the episode!!! -- It really does deserve three exclamation marks. Sue, as always, is as fantastic as she is cruel, but the winner for character of the week has to go to Brittany. My love for her knows no bounds. A lot of the main characters are sidelined, but I guess they'll have their time to sing next week (or in Quinn's case, have a few lines of dialogue). Good, but not great. Funny, but not hilarious. Nevertheless, an entertaining return to Glee!

    Ah this episode reminded me why I am a gleek. After a long break the show finally returned for the second half of the first season and it was fantastic. The songs were great, the new plot twists and developments are exciting and different. Already we have secrets, lies, deceit, treachery ah it makes me so excited for the future episodes. The songs were great as usual, "Gives you hell" made me smile so wide the entire song and the tension in "Hello Goodbye" was just too perfect. I was a little afraid about where they would go with this show at the end of the first half of the first season, but I felt the show did everything right. I didn't like Schuster with Emma and they ended it in the first episode, and I was definitely relieved. All in all I can't wait for next week and the rest of the season.

    The CW returned with new episodes in March. They all started only ok, but they got much better. I think Glee will do the same, but this installment was a lot better than ok.

    Rachel/Jesse: I don't trust him! Will he sabotage the club? I think if he sticks around, he just might be vicious.

    Finn/Cheerios: BRITTANA IS HILARIOUS! Keep it coming, and Finn, you deserve better than Rachel. Even if Brittana was obnoxious to you, Will you succumb to Sue?

    Terri/Emma/Will: I wanted Will and Emma together, but now Terri's back and Emma and Will are in trouble. I thought Emma was really cute when she admitted she was a virgin. Shame on Will for kissing the other woman, but Idina Menzel did an excellent job. She was like Sue that looks like Rachel.

    Not enough Kurt, Quinn and Puck. Too much concentration on Rachel.

    Winners: Sue's hilarious comments.

    Losers: Figgins for always giving into Sue
