  • Glee goes GaGa! WOW!:)

I have liked Lady GaGa for some time now and when they had an episode of Madonna, I wanted Glee to have an episode for someone I liked. When I saw this episode, I was singing along to Bad romance because its my favourite song. I loved this episode so much and I want to watch again. One of my favourite episodes. I loved the crazy outfits. Rachels was the best and I really liked Quinns. I want more episodes for Pop stars and icons. Maybe they will do an episode in Season 2 for Michael Jackson. That would be amazing! :)

What is it with Lea Michele's ability to turn any song, no matter the genre, into a show tune?!? I'm not even a big Ga Ga fan, but when she made Poker Face sound like it came from a sixties' musical, I think I actually threw up a bit... That's not even taking into account that she was singing a song about a woman bragging that her boyfriend can't tell she's gay with her mom... Creepy...

  • Rachel confronts her mother, while Tina faces an identity crisis. New Directions were given a task to sing Lady GaGa songs.

it took me almost a week to review this episode! But now that I have watch it several times (yeah sometimes it helps me to get everything because I don't get all the jokes or allusions at first because english is not my mother tongue) but I really love this episode!

It was nice to see the Glee club opening themselves and showing up.

The use of lady Gaga songs was awesome and goes perfectly with the theme THEATRICALITY which, at least for me, is to make the show and playing a part like lady gaga does all the time.

The idea of all the boys except Kurt being reluctant to do lady Gaga was nice because Lady gaga create a girlyish atmosphere (i don't think at all that lady gaga is for girl only!!! but she speaks more to girls!) The fact that they are doing Kiss instead was interested because it was like they try to show their virility and it brings a lot to the finn-Kurt storyline.

The Finn-Kurt storyline was really full of emotion with two scenes :

    - first when Kurt's dad speak to Finn and kick him out of his house because it shows how much this father loves his son and all the work he has done to do that speech.

    - second : the final scene when Finn defends Kurt and wears a 'gaga' outfit because it schows how much the glee club memebers take care of each other and show the real Finn, the one who didn't care if others are different!

The mother-daughter was not that good because i think it was too easy ... the only thing that is good about this is the songs that the two actress sing. Even though some people think it was inappropriate for them to sing Poker Face, I think the song wasn't that bad and they are just rehearsing together a gaga song for the week assignment !!! but the title correspond a little bit of what they are doing at this exact moment they aren't showing their true feelings and putting up their poker face!

Quinn and Puck share a 'momen' about their baby and how he wants to naame her..that was sweet to see Puck be a little bit sentimental...maybe he is making his mind about this question and try to grew up a little bit.

To finish my favorite song of this episode : Bad Romance, they've rocked it!
  • Worst episode so far.......

I really really like glee, but I didn't like this episode. It was the first one I skipped some parts because they were boring or bad. I really like the duet of Rachel and her mum at the end, but thats the only good thing of it. Its way tooooo much with all this costumes and the worst part is the scene in the basement when Kurt's father is offensiv against Finn. Come on....I would freak out too if I were Finn in this situation. He has every right to freak out being pushed into a room he doesn't want to live and which is decorated like a freak show. And he also haven't said anything really bad and Kurt's father is freaking out like hell. Also Kurts reaction is stupid too, I mean Finn apologizes right after it and Kurt is acting like a Diva......why do gay people always want to change others? I mean its not ok to be offensiv against them, but they also should respect the lifestyle of straight people too......so this scene was really bad!!

also the whole lady gaga/kiss thing was not good too. I mean great costumes, but come on we are on a high school.......Hope it is getting better again. Neil Patrick Harris was a gift for glee!! hope we will see him again.
  • This episode was basically written to be one long, political agenda shoved down viewer's throats.

    "Abysmal"
This episode was just disgusting. The writers didn't even TRY to hid the fact that they were throwing their own little political agendas at their viewers.

I was totally repulsed by the Kurt-Fin storyline in this episode. Kurt arranges it so that Fin's and his mom move into Kurt's and Kurt's father's house. (Fin is not consulted prior to the move). Fin then finds out he's sharing a room with Kurt. (Again, he is not given a choice in this.) Kurt then tries to make Fin feel better about the whole thing by redecorating their room in some sort of bizarre casa-blanca, Victorian era way, including Fin's half of the room. (Without talking about it to Fin.) He also tries on several attempts to flirt with Fin, who has made it clear from the beginning of the show that he is straight, and has no interest in dating Kurt.

Poor Fin finally reaches his breaking point, and chews Kurt out for his behavior. Unfortunately, he uses some coarse language, and Kurt's dad threatens to throw Fin out of his house. When the episode ends, Fin apologizes to Kurt for his behavior.

I found all of this sickening. Kurt was sexually harassing Fin, but apparently, because Kurt is gay he's allowed to sexually harass anybody he wants to. (God help it if the poor gay Kurt is harassed for his sexual orientation though.)

I thought equal rights was supposed to be a two way street. But evidently, straight people are evil bigots who should stop telling gay people they don't want to date them or have them invade their personal space, or take over their lives.
  • Leave it to Glee to ruin all appreciation I had for Lady Gaga.

    4.5
    "Poor"
Well I am a Lady Gaga fan because of her music so I was rather surprised to find that someone who sings techno pop would become so popular. This episode has pretty much explained things for me. The Lady Gaga fanbase is more in it for her dress style and NOT for her music. That is just sad. I may be the only Lady Gaga fan in the world who prefers listening to Lady Gaga instead of looking at her. And it seems the writers are part of the whole "we love Lady Gaga for the look" like the majority of people are.

I mean if they really loved Lady Gaga's music, then why the terrible selection of songs and the way they are used? All of them were akwardly done and were out of place. I know of several other Lady Gaga songs that would've been more Glee fit although they are not as well known. The episodes seemed to care more about showing off the Lady Gaga style than the use of the songs themselves. Using her biggest hits "Poker Face" and "Bad Romance" = major copout! Poker Face as a jazzy piano number at the end was close to likeable but still too awkward. This is the second time that this show has done poorly in devoting a whole episode to one singer's music by picking hits over songs that would've actually worked. As for the storylines, they were subpar. You can sense Ryan Murphy's anger at that controversial Newsweek article from a week or two back shoved right into the face of audiences on his own show. The preachiness is starting to really irritate. Only redeeming factor: I got a good laugh from Tina scaring the principal into letting her wear black again. But the low score is attribute to the poor use of Lady Gaga in this episode.

Now I dunno if I can even listen to her stuff again.

Im sadly disappointed with the new Glee episodes. I love the first batch, theyre brilliant. However, since sectionals the show has lost nearly all of its gold. One has only to google 'best glee quotes' and 'best glee moments' and see a list that is essentially all Sue, who is supposed to be one of the lead characters. Where was she this episode? HUGE mistake. Secondly, where was Emma? She has hardly featured at all since the break. They are two of the best characters, far stronger than nearly all the kids. Will and Emmas relationship is one of the most crucial elements of the first 13 episodes. Now Jayma has had about 10 minutes air time in the 7 episodes since then. Shes also another lead character just cut. Same for Terri and Ken, all in the first episodes far more, yet now nothing but a memory. I realise their main role was to stop Will and Emma, but to just completely forget them is crazy. The adult characters were the crucial characters in Glee in my honest opinion, and they seem to have been axed for more time with the kids. The show has lost its direction...i can only hope it gets it back

The last few episode were really good, and it did make me say the cliched 'Glee is back in business'. But this one was pretty below average and the show can do much better than this.

Apart from Idina Menzel finally getting more screen time, this one didn't have any moments that will stick in your mind after watching the entire episode. I really didn't enjoy Kurt's storyline and I am starting to see an overuse of his homosexuality as a plot line. Common, we know he is gay and it's hard to be a gay teenager in high school. So how about we put that to rest and focus on other characters.

The musical tracks revolving around Lady Gaga were okay. I've never been a fan of theatrical pop music with crazy costumes and all, and I have no respect for the musical capabilities of artists such as Lady Gaga who can't sing a decent song without auto-tuners. We also didn't get to see show runners like Sue Sylvester, and that clearly indicates a flawed story line. That being said, this episode was completely forgettable and hope the next one and the finale are good.
  • Definitely the worst episode of the season. The glee club massacres some fairly good songs.

Rachel finds out who her mother is and confronts her. Kurt and Finn have some issues when their parents decide to move in together. Tina faces identity issues when she gets told that she can't dress like a goth anymore.

The whole episode was made up of very flimsy excuses to sing very lame renditions of good songs.

The realism of the show is slipping a lot The school that formerly couldn't afford to buy new costumes can now inexplicably afford extravagant lights and effects just to show a new song to the rest of the glee club.

Idina Menzel (Rachel's mother) is a fantastic singer, but her talent is completely wasted performing an ridiculous adaptation of Poker Face.

    "Perfect"
After reading countless reviews since the show's inception, you can always count on one divisive element among the crowds: you have the crowd that wants more songs/less drama, then you have the crowd that wants more drama/less singing. I'd like to find middle ground amongst all of that. I feel the drama needs the music as much as the music needs the drama.

Theatricality, like many other episodes, was a great showcase of this very point. Starting with Tina's inability to express herself as an individual, Schuester suggests (through the gossip train that is Rachel discovering Vocal Adrenaline's Gaga pursuit) a Lady Gaga assignment for the week. What better way to express individuality than through Lady Gaga, who has repeatedly exhibited and defined herself as an icon? By having the ladies (plus Kurt) perform "Bad Romance" in full Gaga gear, you can see the confidence gain among the team.

Though "Beth" was mainly Puck's ode to Ms. Fabray, you can see in Finn's apologetic facial expressions that it was somewhat dedicated to Kurt. After a heated exchange between Finn and Kurt about Finn's insecurity in living with a homosexual, Mr. Burt Hummel interjects with one of the most heartfelt and poignant dialogues you can hear about discrimination. The pain in Kurt's held-back tears and Burt's prolonged hand on Kurt's shoulder indicate what a strong bond the two have despite Kurt out of the closet.

Some may argue the placement of Rachel and Shelby's piano rendition of "Poker Face" and say that it's a blatant attempt to fill the episode with more Gaga songs. Yeah, I can see that. Welcome to corporate America. But you cannot listen to that and say it didn't do Gaga justice. Two beautiful Broadway voices accompanying one of the biggest hits of 2009 was the highest form of flattery. And all little ol' Rachel wanted to do was sing with her mother.

One of the main reasons I watch this show is because of the perfect blend of music and drama. Another reason is that there really isn't anything out there quite like it at all. Maybe it'll get old in another year, maybe it won't. It sure as hell hasn't disappointed at all so far...
  • First of all: This episode should win a costume design Emmy! Great interpretation of individuality using a public figure like Lady Gaga.

I was pleased with this episode for many reasons:

-Bert's exchange with Finn about discrimination while Kurt looks on in tears best scene in awhile

-Fantastic costumes all around! (Girls+Kurt as Lady Gaga/Boys as Kiss)

-Great with Rachael and Shelby....Sad but sweet

-Finn looked sexy in a red shower curtain!

-Excellent performances from all cast members

-Shoutout to Puck for being soulful and sentimental (I hope that Quinn decides to keep the baby and name it Beth) Cons: -Not enough Gaga not really an episode dedicated to her music but her style and individuality which is by far superior to her music

-Finn's rant about Kurt since when is Finn a homophobe? Or is it more about change? How he hates change????
  • Could just as easily been a KISS tribute

I'll start by saying I'm not into Lady Gaga at all. I don't hate her or anything, in fact, she has been the most innovative pop culture influence in the world of both music and fashion since Madonna. It's only fitting she be the next artist to have a Glee episode dedicated to her. I'm just saying that with the love-it-or-hate-it songs, and the boisterous sense of style, Gaga is sooo not my thing. So it is a serious feat that they got me to love the episode as much as I did! There was a lot to appreciate in Theatricality, and even though the message of expressing yourself was similar to the themes of several other Glee episodes, including 'Power of Madonna' I think this one works on a much better level than that one ever did.

First off, I was thrilled to see the guys addressing how everything has been catered for the girls a lot lately. No doubt immediate reaction to the premise of this episode from skeptical viewers was, "Again? Really?" I'm glad the dudes didn't quite have to 'go Gaga', but were still able to capture the ultimate in performance expressionism in arguably the male equivalent to Gaga: KISS! Perfect.

Rachel finally introduced herself to her mother Shelby, after spying on one of their rehearsals. I enjoyed all their scenes together, which was much more muted and emotional and less dramatic than I expected. A particular nice touch was having mom sew her a REAL Gaga costume as opposed to the pathetic stuffed animal number her 2 dads tried to staple together. "We've got a jumper!" By the way, the kids' outfits were a riot! Tina's bubbles made me laugh; they were all great, but if I had to pick a winner, Santana's costume get's my vote- YOWZA!

Not that Kurt didn't wear something that was so totally appropriate. The Kurt storyline is the best thing Glee has going, and I see this character as creator Ryan Murphy's ultimate proxy to air out some of his biggest personal issues. Kurt was great as usual, but I have to give credit to Finn for playing the harder role, here. Because of the parents, Finn had to move in with Kurt, and I COMPLETEY understood where he was coming from. Finn's not a bad person, just a regular guy, but its hard not to feel uncomfortable when Kurt behaves the way he does (the room decorating was hilarious- but this went much deeper than that). Kurt's dad really gave Finn a piece of his mind and I cannot overstress the BRILLIANCE of this single scene, where all three players are valid in the argument, with no definitive right or wrong. This is a real-life dilemma that unfortunately hasn't found a solution yet. I continue to admire Kurt for standing up to the jocks, but Finn totally redeems himself for drawing a battle line and taking a side against the bullies as well. In a shower curtain, lol! Man, this episode would have been perfect, but I honestly thought the vampire stuff with the principle was pretty stupid. Too bad this is what they used to trigger the entire plot of the episode. Also, there was no Sue Sylvester. How could they miss an opportunity like that?! "Funny Girl" by Barbara Streisand.

Showing her Vocal Adrenaline team that theatrics doesn't always have to be 'showy' Shelby serenaded them with this. Idena Menzel sings beautifully. No duh there. I really like soft jazzy theater solos like this one.

Grade: A- "Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga.

What can I say? If you're a fan, your gonna love this group number. I'm not a fan, but I know a good rendition when I see it. Grade: A

"Shout it out Loud" by KISS.

It was a little hard to tell who was who under all that makeup (I'm guessing Artie was the one in the wheelchair, lol) but after the song, with everyone explaining which band member they were, I was like, "Well done!" They rocked.

    Grade: B+

    "Beth" by KISS.

Puck finally owns up to being a man for Quinn (who I'm getting more concerned for the more she dances with child) and he sang his best solo yet. "I didn't care that my dad was a badass." No, Puck, cause you are too.

    Grade: B+

    "Poker Face" by Lady Gaga.

Yes, this ep featured just as many KISS songs as it did Gaga songs. Some might be annoyed by this, but I was pleasantly surprised. This last number featured Rachel and Shelby saying goodbye (say it ain't so!) and was a wonderful duet. However I couldn't even tell it was Gaga's Poker face until the chorus! I was like, "What are they singing?" Glee went out on a limb with this drastic change. Did it work? Depends on who you ask.

    Grade: B+
  • Really good episode!

The episode was really good. It starts out with Tina and Mr. Shue in the principal's office. He thinks vampires do exist and that Tina is being influenced by them so if she doesn't change her looks she'll get suspended. So Mr. Shue and the Glee club try to look for her a new look. Rachel comes in saying how the store has run out Christmas lights and some other materials and most of the members are shock. And they say "Vocal Adrenaline is going GaGa!" so Kurt explains to the boys and Mr. Shue who GaGa is and what she has done. So Will gives them their assignment to be GaGa. As Rachel, Quinn, and Mercedes are spying on Vocal Adrenaline Rachel finds out that Shelby is her mother when she sings a song by Barbara Streisand. Also Finn and his mother are moving in with Kurt and his father. Clearly Finn is not happy about this. He goes to Mr. Shue and tells him that he's not doing GaGa and he say's he has a solution. The girls perform Bad Romance and later the guys perform a song by KISS. Also Puck is very sweet and sings Beth from KISS and tells Quinn that's the name he wants for the baby. There is a very nice moment between Rachel and Shelby towards the ends when Shelby tells her how she feels about her they end up singing Poker Face but in a more slow acoustic version. Also Finn in this episode was really mean which disappointed me seeing him like this. Though at the end he defended Kurt and we saw him in a shower curtain to form one of GaGa's outfits. Oh, and Tina decides to stick with her Goth look and tells the principal that her dad is a vampire and that if he doesn't let her be herself that her father will come after him. Very funny part. Amazing episode! Yay!! for being a GLEEK!

This episode was a total blast! There's so much to like about this one, I think I'll just throw a few bullet points at you:

The Bad Romance cover was excellent! It was over the top, but it worked. Everyone looked amazing. Quinn, especially, looked the part!

Was that really Santana singing? Still on the Bad Romance kick, it was great seeing Tina take the lead in such a big number. Actually, I loved that everyone had a line or three. More, please!

I wasn't so enthused about the fellas' number, but they looked like they had fun…

I was shocked to see so much drama in this episode:

The whole Kurt and Finn ordeal was fairly intense, wasn't it? And they actually both held valid arguments. (Of course, I'm not supporting Finn's homophobic comments, but it does highlight a very real issue with regards to peer pressure).

I was shocked at Finn actually going there and saying that everything in Kurt's room looked 'F*ggy'.

Luckily, Super Dad came to the rescue and handed Finn his ass on a plate, and then firmly kicked it out of his home! (My favourite scene of the episode.)

That Poker Face cover was exceptional! I could have watched these two for hours. And I mean hours!

Brad – 'He's always just around...'' ROFL!!

Ryan Murphy saved his best jokes for the main cast this week. Old Reliable (ahem, Sue =P) is nowhere to be seen, and Brittany only has a few lines. Tina, however, gets such a hilarious moment near the end as a vampire. I'd like to see more of this side of Tina. Actually, scrap that, I'd just like to simply see more of Tina (who looks way better without makeup…just sayn').

The resolution to the whole Kurt/Finn debacle was as cheesy as I expected it to be. I'm still not sure if it lets the former jock off the hook, though. Mind you, he looked so ridiculous in that shower curtain, I may let his outburst slide.
