While with Duke and Frankie, Gomer is on the pay phone. As he hangs up, $41.75 in change comes out. Gomer insists on returning the money to the phone company. Duke and Frankie were planning on using the money for a fun night out, and are frustrated, leaving Gomer to deal with the phone company alone. Gomer keeps being directed to differnt windows at the phone company, and a Mr.Corbett thinks Gomer is a practical joker. Sgt.Carter advises Gomer to put the money back in the phone. As he tries this, a policeman thinks he is stealing the money. Really funny scene is next, as detectives interrogate Gomer. Gomer tells the truth, and they don't believe him. One of the dectives decribes what he thinks Gomer was thinking, that he woke up thinking "what am I doing here", suggesting Gomer wanted to steal money for a better life. Gomer replied he knew what he was doing here, he had two more years on his enlistment. Sgt. Carter tries to help Gomer, saying they are going to fight this, and for Gomer to trust him. The next scene shows Gomer in jail! Gomer gets out of trouble when Mr.Corbett backs up his story. He then lets Gomer's platoon use a pay phone in the barracks to make long distance calls, which, as Gomer points out, cost more than $41.75. I thought this was a very good episode. The theme of the episode was really good: Gomer does the right thing, and despite the adversity he dealt with, in the end honesty was the best policy.moreless
