  • Sgt.Carter, in an attempt to get a break from Gomer, gives a reluctant Gomer a furlow.

This episode features an underlying endearing theme of the show. Despite all of the yelling Sgt. Carter has dished out to Gomer, and all the complainging of how his life would be better without Gomer in it,Sgt.Carter really cares about Gomer, and values their relationship. The episode starts with Sgt.Carter having beers with buddies at a club, and Gomer stops by, aggrevating Sgt. Carter by asking if he can switch bunks with Duke. At the barracks,Gomer continues to annoy Sgt.Carter, including loaning his rifle to a fellow marine. Funny scene as Sgt. Carter tells Gomer he is giving him a furlow because Gomer is tense. He gives him the furlough to get a break from Gomer. Gomer tells Sgt. Carter he does'nt want the furlough and does'nt feel tense. Sgt. Carter becomes increasingly tense yelling at Gomer that he is tense.Gomer finds out that during his furlough he can work as a civilian on the base. Hilarious scene as Sgt. Carter and Corp. Boyle are at a bar, and the bartender is Gomer, who says "surprise, surprise, surprise". Sgt. Carter's arm accidently causes the beer to spill on his uniform, and he proceeds to go on a verbal tirade against Gomer. Realizing Sgt.Carter does'nt want him around, Gomer seeks a transfer, which is evenually torn up by Sgt.Carter. Sgt. Carter realizes he will miss Pyle if he transfers, and informs Gomer he is staying. Gomer is all smiles. After another foul up, Sgt. Carter chews out Gomer, and all is well between the two men. I consider this a classic episode
